Poly Bush Full Kit. Is this a good price? Or should I just fit new rubber?
joby replied to elliott's topic in Drivetrain
Theres loads of threads on here about bushes, bit of advice if you can take the car of the road and can afford it get all the bushes and replace the all at once as its a ball ache doing one or two at atime, You are better off dropping the front subframe and replacing the arb`s that way and replacing all the wishbone bushes and tie rod ends and steering rack bushes that way, and then if your confident pull the rear beam down and replace the beam bushes, just make sure you replace everything and try not to cut corners as its not a cheap job but the difference it makes to how the car drives is fantastic Good luck ---------- Post added at 04:56 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:54 PM ---------- Ohh you will need an engine hoist to hold the engine in place if your dropping the front subframe.. -

Go for dealer oem mate they will make your car feel how it should, Don`t bother with cheap stuff, i used febi and had to replace half of it after only 12 months due to it rotting -
Bought 2 new rear calipers of someone on here and fitted them and just tried to adjust handbrake and nearside wont work! Have primed and pumped the pedal and you can move the lever on the caliper right down and its not affecting or even slightly stopping the disc! Funny enough the caliper in question came to me without the spring mechanism on it so i had to utilise the spring off the old caliper! I cant think of anything other than its Knackered.. Any ideas? The offside works fine by the way

Can anyone tell me what thickness wheel spacers to go for? im running 7x17 et37 with 205x40x17 tyres, lowered 40mm and its a valver 4 stud! Just want to bring the wheels further out to the arch as they seem lost under there, backs worse than the fronts..
-
Thanks everyone, sorted now with a bit of patience! put them back on and just kept pushing the pedal gently until they started shifting and eventually the came out to apoint where i could pull the piston out! You should of seen the crap that was in them built up over the years, cleaned them all out and resealed them, Have bled the fronts but still have a spongy pedal, Going to have to bleed the rears again i think as air has probably got right through the system, why are the brakes so hard to bleed on the corrado? had this before when iv`e worked on the brakes! Probably going to have a right job bleeding them now, Doesn`t do them any good sitting in the garage for months on end without a doubt. you can see where the fluid has sat in the caliper for long periods this is why regular fluid changes are important
-
Anybody any ideas? The damn things are solid, tried to pump them out on the car and its not having it, Im fed up with this piece of german junk ha ha. just replaced the backs and bought a kit for the front, should of just got new calipers
-
Ive come to the conclusion that thats how old corrados are! Everytime i go to do a job on it something else appears or breaks, There can`t be much left on mine to replace, yesterday i decided to start replacing the rear calipers and the anti roll bar rubbers, What a nightmare day trying to do the arb bushes on my own then the rear calipers wouldn`t bleed up so just gave up last night!! Some times i hate this car so much and wonder why i bother as its on sorn most of the time and am seriously thinking of just selling up and moving on, After a full engine rebuild i have a small undetectable water leak around the gearbox side of the block, This car just does not and refuses to be fixed

thanks guys.

Just got some new rear calipers in the quest to try and stop the rear from uneven braking at speed, can anyone tell me the best way of setting up the rears when fitting the pads ? do i adjust the pistons out to leave a little play between the pads (was thinking of measuring the piston clearance from the caliper and copying to the opposite side) any suggestions or experiance?

Are most rados generally past it / riddled with rust?
joby replied to Kenich's topic in General Car Chat
I really don`t think you get much in 2k bracket especially in G60 as they seem to be popular and rarer than most other models and now getting on for 20 years old they are inevetably going to suffer from rust, I have spent a small fortune on mine over the years including full underneath overhaul, engine overhaull and upgrade ,new suspension, leather interior, VR6 brakes and so on mostly age related issues! Thats why you see early 16valvers for £400 because there ready for the scrap yard unless you spend at least another 2k on them and who`s gonna do that!! Keep looking and you will find a good one but at 2k think you will have to spend to get it how you want it, Anyway thats the enjoyable part of owning corrados, buying new goodies and fitting them and then feeling the benefit when you drive it... -
They should be able to sort a sump bolt washer out for you! It probably fits lots of other applications so should be on the shelf, Try them, Id rather go there than halfords to have some 15 year old wondering what it was for half an hour then saying no! But you never know..
-
If you go to the dealers they usually throw a sump washer in with the filter, but yes you should really but reusing it once or twice it shouldnt leak
-
Thanks will have a go tomorrow
-
Thanks david, also can you tell me when changing the anti roll bar bushes do i place the jack under the subframe and slacken the subframe bolts off just enough to lower the subframe to release the bushes Thanks
-
Ah thanks david, so just get the spring top plates and use the vr6 top mounts then
-
Totaly agree but just thought the fk ones were an uprage, at £57 a piece from vw and the fact that i only put about a thousand miles a year on the car surely you see my point
-
Need to replace my top mounts and im not paying vw prices and theres only 5 left in the country as there deleted items now, So has anyone any experience with fk ones as the febi ones i bought lasted about 3 months, Dont mix with uprated suspension!!
-
Went into my dealers this morning to order some bits including new top mounts only to be told they have just deleted them and he checked and said there are 5 left in this country, At £57 retail each!! before discount so i told him to shove them, Not paying that sort of money, I will just have to use crappy febi ones again

Got any pics, and what condition and price are you looking for

Im after 3 of the Alloys as i already have 1, can you give me the part number for them and if its the same as mine i will take them also 4 centre caps are the wheels straight with no buckles -
Thats the spirit, Just look at having to replace all the underpinings as you would expect from an old car like the corrado thats what i have done and im still sorting other bits
-
jim have you not thought about a milteck, had mine for about 6 years with no trouble at all and never knocks and if anything its too quiet.

Decided to do something about the dodgy sticking and pulling to one side brakes! Question is are caliper repair kits any good has anybody sucsesfully repaired there calipers with these kits or shall i just bite the bullet and buy some spankers, I uprated the brakes from 16 valve to G60 a while ago but they were second hand so basically tired anyway the backs are the same but thinking of just replacing them as i think repairing them is probably a no go as there not the best anyway are they, Any advice welcome
