I'm not alas though I do love that part of the world! He was passing by so I arranged to meet him nearby to pick the cams up :)

Was good to meet up with Goldie earlier this evening and pick up some VR6 cams. Always good to chat Corrado's with a fellow enthusiast! Hopefully catch up with you later in the year and get a proper look round your VR mate :)

It's completely understandable to vent about this sort of stuff - we understand, and we've all been on the end of deals gone bad for whatever reason. I can categorically state that classifieds are not going away, so don't worry about that.. but as I say, we'll always be looking for ways to improve and streamline them, and make the process easier for sellers and buyers! :) Cheers.

Classifieds continue to be a thorn in the side of the forum. We want to host them because it's a vital part of the forum, but it's been a source of friction ever since day one purely because we can't FORCE people to behave in a certain way when it comes to making a sale - be it on the payment side of things, posting things, etc. Andi has been reviewing how the classifieds work and we will always try to improve things, and intervene when people try and ruin it for everyone else - and of course we'd always suggest using PayPal, shipping things recorded / special delivery - or at very worst just deal with forum members you know. I think generally the classifieds on here work pretty well, and everyone looks out for each other.

a light polish just wont cut it for a concourse contender so full rebuild

Great attitude :) Can't wait to see the progress on this one :) -
Welcome to the forum - and indeed, a sad story to open with! Not many Corrado's with that kind of mileage any more, and even though the automatics are not as desirable generally speaking, they're certainly a rare breed too. I hope you get a positive outcome regardless of what you do and keep us updated!

I'm shortly (next month or two, hopefully) about to take ownership of a 1967 Daimler 2.5 V8 - looks the same as a MK2 Jaguar (inspector morse!) but in blue. As it's '67 it is already tax exempt but actually stops very well as it was one of the first production road cars to be fitted with disc brakes. The only hair raising thing is the suspension / handling - so, so heavy and lots of body roll! But that's not what she's really designed for :)
-
Well it's not quite the dream scheme a lot of us would like, as it's still a LONG time before our Corrado's are tax exempt, but yesterday in the budget the government announced that vehicles 40 years old and over will be tax exempt. And this is a rolling thing now. http://classics.honestjohn.co.uk/news/general-news/2014-03/classic-car-road-tax-exemption-now-rolling-at-40-years/ So at this point if you car was registered before 1 January 1974, it'll be tax exempt. Only 7 more years till your MK1 Scirocco becomes free to tax, Tempest :)

I don't think the BMC is any louder than the K&N - but I think because of the design of it, you're less likely to be sucking in warm air from the engine bay and are therefore likely to get slightly better power figures.
-
I'm still not convinced by that argument :) I simply wouldn't accept that the the MK1, MK2, or Corrado are any more (or less) a sports car than the new Scirocco!
-
Even though I have endless respect for Schwebe.. The Corrado has a perfectly usable 4 seats, and presumably the MK1 & MK2 Scirocco do too? So not quite sure I understand his point there!

I'm just going to put in a vote for OEM brakes - I run OEM discs and pads on my VR (though admittedly 288's). They've been on the car since I've owned it (and I've done about 32,000 miles in it), and no idea how long before that - and still seem to have tonnes of meat on both pads and discs. And I've never felt that they were close to fading or anything. However if you're keen on after market, I did used to run performance Ferrodo pads on my G60 and they were pretty damn decent!

Main dealer is usually a very good source for the bolts, depending on how friendly / patient they are.. some parts departments are helpful to enthusiasts with a shopping list of bolts for a 22 year old VW, and some just don't want to know.

I'm always in awe at the folks who take on these sorts of projects, down to this sort of level - look forward to following the thread with interest :) -
Sadly no chance of that! I don't have VR Turbo kind of money kicking around. Though I'm on the cusp of getting my VR engine fully rebuilt (once I can come to terms with the cost of doing that!) - that's about the limit for me, for a while! Did have the pleasure of driving the Stealth turbo though, for a Sprinter review - it was so, so good :)

I don't understand why so many people find that sort of ****e entertaining - it blows my mind.

Speedo Binnacle Covers - Group Buy Feeler - P12 - Prototypes fitted, all OK!
Jim replied to Jim's topic in Group Buy Feelers
Well I fitted them today. To be honest they look OK though truthfully don't completely look OE. They'd certainly do the job of covering up the screw holes and would pass all but the most up close scrutiny (will stick up some pictures in a bit). However my biggest concern is around the quality. Not only did I break my (perfectly fine) original ones removing them (sigh) these broke quite quickly too - the plastic doesn't seem as strong as the original VW stuff, and I'm actually convinced they broke during installation and not removal, meaning they could be pretty useless. I'm just not happy taking peoples money off them if I feel they'll be disappointed, and certainly I was disappointed on the trial fitment. I don't necessarily blame the 3D printing company here, more VW for what is just a rubbish design - but I think with the 3D printed plastic being less strong and slightly more brittle than the original stuff I don't think the technology lends itself well to this kind of piece. I'm starting to wonder perhaps if there might be any mileage instead of me asking VW Classic Parts about a run of these made actually from the factory moulds (if possible?) with the guarantee of an order of like 60 pairs. Not sure how many they'd have to make to make it a viable proposition for them. -
I have been up into Scotland a few times now and am always in awe of it. The scenery is exceptional and once you get up past Glasgow you can find some fantastic (and quiet!) roads to enjoy the Corrado on. Scotland would get my vote every time.

Horrid job. Keep debating doing it 'preventatively' on my Corrado but having helped two different friends do the job on their Corrado's, not quite sure I have the enthusiasm for it! Someone mentioned some decent stuff available from Wickes as a great replacement for the foam, on here only recently.. think it was this one, but not sure if he means he lined the edges or the flaps completely... http://the-corrado.net/showthread.php?t=85306

I'd certainly be up for a Corrado Forum / Club visit to a track day, just to enjoy seeing Corrado's on the track though not necessarily with the intention of tracking mine :) When is the VW/Audi Driver track day at Castle Combe again? I know our National Day is elsewhere this year but wouldn't stop a group of us going!
