  1. As I say, timing chains. Looking at about £900-£1000 all in to get the chains done (as clutch is usually done at the same time).
  2. Could be the infamous VR6 timing chains.. as you may or may not know the VR6 engine doesn't have a cam / timing belt but instead has timing chains. There is no fixed interval for replacing these but beyond about 100,000 miles the chains wear through the tensioners and a side effect is that these start to get noisy and can (if you're unlucky) lead to engine failure if left too long. Not trying to scare you of course!
  3. Don't just dive into oil changes - it might be worth establishing where the noise is coming from in the engine. It could just be tappets, but it could be other things. Is the noise there as soon as you start the engine? Does it go away as the engine warms up? Does the noise increase in frequency in time with engine revs?
  4. A local! I work at the university just round the corner :) Will keep an eye out for your Corrado!
  5. Yeah that is extremely cheap! To be fair I don't think grey trim is quite as popular generally, but still a bargain for a full set of leathers!

    rare one boys

Would be another ideal part for us to 3D scan and print...
  7. Damn tensioners! VW must have made them out of chocolate or something! I guess, to be fair, many have lasted over 120,000 miles and sometimes over a decade (or two!).. not bad going but.. seem to be a hell of a lot of worn out tensioners appearing on the forum at the moment!
  8. Welcome aboard! Fairly local to me too (I'm over in Coventry). Welcome to the forum, and I look forward to seeing some pictures!
  9. **** :( Didn't Miltek just have similar recently?
  10. Wait... so you're saying someone had a good dig through your car when it was parked on the driveway on the one night you'd accidentally left it unlocked? :| That's pretty scary :(
  11. Had a look around the cars in the the car parks, but didn't pay to go into the show. Bit burned out with VW shows these days, and that side of it just doesn't really interest me any more - but good to see the show so busy and steadily getting larger each year. Thumping music and bagged cars on Bentley wheels just isn't for me any more. Some interesting stuff in the car parks though - there was a very cool white Corrado on white Compomotives, totally stripped out and running what appeared to be a sequential gearbox? Couldn't determine what engine it was, but looked pretty damn cool! Also a very nice old late 70's Alpina BMW parked in that same field! Did anyone happen to see the BMW that showed up about lunch time and parked in the field? Black BMW and absolutely covered in a million shiny stick on accessories from Halfords, and a gigantic spoiler on the back. Turned heads as it went into the car park, but not for the reasons the owner hoped for.. Congrats to the Corrado folks who took away trophies (think Goldie and Butterfly?) and a really enjoyable curry the night before with so many club / forum folks. Really good to catch up :)
  12. That looks fantastic :) Nice way to modernise the centre console on the Corrado!
  13. Hi folks! OK - well I got the prototypes through over a week ago. As per the CAD designs shown previously, these are a revised design that means they should be a lot less prone to breaking and be a lot easier to remove! I was initially concerned as when I came to fit them, they didn't seem to want to stay in place however after a few minutes I found a particular way to insert them and now they fit in immediately without any issues and stay in place nicely, and are easy to remove as I hoped. Very pleased with how they've turned out. Please see the links below for pictures of them fitted: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B1fJDWZF2UmyMlNuWm1kZkVWcFE/edit?usp=sharing https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B1fJDWZF2UmyVklEM2tJdjJYLVU/edit?usp=sharing https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B1fJDWZF2UmycnlncUNQMU9LY3c/edit?usp=sharing The last shot is me just demonstrating the little hole for inserting a small screwdriver, to remove them :) My only worry I guess is that I've only tried them on my car. The binnacle's can't really be 'different' in any sense so if it fits one Corrado it should fit all of them. I may try and get them on another Corrado just to be sure, then will look to firm up costs with the designers, and we should be in business. Cheers.
  14. Welcome to the forum :)
  15. Just interested to know what was going on with peoples cars.. I have noticed a steady decline in the respect people show to cars, at more mainstream car events, simply assuming that they can open the doors and let themselves in, have a seat in the car, etc without asking the owner - who is usually stood a few feet away, mortified!
  16. It's only Andi who can sort this out as far as I know - I've got absolutely no idea how the new system works unfortunately :( Sure he'll get a chance to get on the forum at some point in the next couple of days and take a look.
  17. Thread has been pruned as I think it's fair to say it got a little out of hand. Please keep comments and questions relevant to the item and thanks to the seller for weathering the posts in the good natured way that he did.

    Louder VR6

Tapping out the snorkel on the airbox will certainly help make things a bit louder as will, as you say, am aftermarket stainless exhaust system.
  19. Welcome aboard! Agree - great to see more folks from the USA and Canada turning up and using the forum :) What's actually wrong with the G60 then? What are the symptoms?
  20. Off to see one on Friday are we? :) I've never had a good look around it but from what I've seen of it in the car park, Dave's 944 S2 is very tidy. He only ever seems to bring it out when the weather is very nice (so I've only seen it here like 5-6 times in a couple of years) and he does seem to look after it. Good luck with whatever you decide to do - I can sympathise with your dilemma / thought processes and have to say that, for me, the only Porsche I'd really want is a 911 or maybe something more modern like a Boxster / Cayman, and that the older models like the 924/944/928 don't really do it for me. But at the end of the day they all have the badge, and therefore the history and the prestige! And if you get bored of it after a year, it's pretty unlikely you're going to make any kind of loss on it if you sell it on and move on to something else, so don't think you can really lose out.
  21. Discovered it'd been slightly damaged whilst parked out on the street last week so out of disgust and sympathy took it round the back of the house to wash it, and put it away - and promptly dragged the front bumper down my garage wall. It'd not really taken any hits or major damage in the four years I've owned it - and two bad bits of damage happen basically on the same day :(

    Tyre advice

I just don't get Toyo's. I've had them on several cars, and whilst the dry performance was more than good enough, the wet weather performance was not just poor but dangerous!

    Tyre advice

Camskill literally just supply the tyre. You're on your own in terms of where you get them fitted unfortunately.
