Shame to hear that, David. Hope the 16v isn't going anywhere though?

Speedo Binnacle Covers - Group Buy Feeler - P12 - Prototypes fitted, all OK!
Jim replied to Jim's topic in Group Buy Feelers
Hi Rog - to be honest it'd be extremely useful if someone could pick it up for me. I'm really struggling to find the time at the moment, provided diarmaid16 is ok with his binnacle covers being passed along? I could forward you details of what needs doing, as well as the contact information of the individual? -

Quick update. Company came back to me about these and need additional pictures, measurements, then the originals sending in. Been a bit snowed under what with work, trying to get new Sprinter magazine done, and also in the process of buying my first house... this may go on the back burner a little while, or won't be my number one focus for a little while but will get it done! -
Well I've only picked them up because my VR has, for whatever reason, decided to start misfiring from cold first thing in a morning - and the only interesting thing is that the leads were all disconnected and reconnected on Saturday, and the problem first appeared on Sunday morning. So I'm going to try replacing the leads, and if it doesn't cure the problem, I might stick them straight up for sale again - and will give you first dibs Michael :)

Yeah - might be time to think about doing the old MK4 calipers. Another expense :|

Awful this morning again - even just reversing at walking speed the brakes were making the noise. Definitely need to get this looked at pretty soon.
-
I will be sure to update the thread. To be honest the rear discs and callipers look ancient. Probably wouldn't hurt to do a total overhaul back there!
-
I feel like I've got a bit of mojo back for tackling some issues on the Corrado, so first up is one that's been bugging me intermittently for a while - this one is probably not helped by the continual rain we've had over the last few weeks. When reversing the car, normally from cold (say first thing on a morning) the car will quite often make the most horrendous binding noise from the rear brakes that resonates through the car and almost sounds like a slightly higher pitched foghorn. I suspect it's quite loud from outside of the car too so it's rather embarrassing. Thankfully parts for the rear brakes are quite reasonably priced from VW Spares. Nothing has been touched on the rear of the car since I've owned it apart from brake pads. Chatting to Graham at DG this weekend and he suggested that it could actually be down to the rear calliper carriers and the way that they wear and don't hold things in place properly. I'm debating picking up a pair of those and new bolts, and a slider pin kit and changing it all out. Before I spend money, I just wonder if anyone else had experienced this, and how did you tackle it? Cheers.

Never seen anyone on here attempt a MK5 dash into a Corrado before.. so good luck and be sure to share your experiences along the way!

Felt quite revitalised by the sunshine today so spent a bit of time just fiddling with the car. Gave the interior a hoover and dust, and also gave the seats a going over with the Autoglym interior shampoo - has made them look a bit less tired! Discovered passenger front footwell was wet (which probably explains why my car steams up so much) so had the passenger door card off to inspect the membrane (perfect) and then also cleared out a tonne of leaves and muck from under the scuttle cover. Lastly a silly little job I've meant to do for a while - the black plastic wheel nut covers for my BBS solitudes have been bleached white from the acid wheel cleaner used at my local hand car wash. So had them all off the car, cleaned, and then gave them a couple of coats of a matt black spray paint from Halfords advertised as a bumper trim spray. Has done a pretty nice job and made them look how they're supposed to again :) May well look to source new ones in the future as and when I get my Solitudes off the car and off for a refurb. Would really like to get Speedlines on the car some time this year! Wish I had a few days off work and a guarantee of a bit more sunshine as I feel I could happily carry on with this little DIY session :)
-
Well I think I found the cause of my steaming up issue. Passenger side front footwell is wet! I had the door card off and checked that the membrane is in great shape the whole way round so that's not to blame, but then had a poke around under the scuttle cover and there were quite a lot of leaves and general debris round there. Think I might get that cover off and replace the gasket to see if it improves things.

It's quite a weird thing with some of these cars having changed hands on the forum several times, you sort of forget who owns them but also gets confusing when you see cars that previously lived miles apart, in different regions.. I was momentarily looking at that thinking 'Did coulstar drive all the way down from Scotland, and meet up with Cazza?' before of course realising that neither car belongs to those folks any more :)

It may be senility setting in, but I quite like this!

I like it too. I also hear that Kia's are substantially better to drive than their reputation would have you believe. Have read a lot of things on various forums about folks being given them as loan or hire cars and by the time they hand them back they're converted to liking them! -
Always liked the Audi TT but.. on this occasion it'd have to be the E46 for me. By a country mile.

I'm tempted to speak nicely to a friend and ask if he'd be willing to email on our behalf to Classic Parts, as he speaks fluent German, to find out what's going on. -
Chap is driving up from London to pick up an old one from me for free. I have said I make no guarantees about how long it'll last but from memory it's also a Hella unit. Hope it lasts him a while to make it worth the drive up.
-
I'm not sure it's an electrical or connectivity issue - more simply that 8v/16v/G60/VR6 all have different rev limits - so the rev limit / redline will be incorrect if you fit them to an 8v/16v!
-
Don't know which ones you've been looking at but you can get a Hella VR6 radiator on eBay for about £140 delivered. Not a bad price really and seems to be very decent quality. Alternatively depending on where you live I have an old VR radiator you can take away. I removed it from my VR6 thinking it was leaking, only to discover it was one of the small pipes that connects the crack pipe to the oil cooler. I'm not prepared to post it to be honest as it's just too much hassle, but it's sat in my lock-up collecting dust. You're welcome to it. But I make no guarantees about how long it might or might not last you!

Ah - Isle of Man :) Ta.
