It does seem very strange - like you say he could be on annual leave or off sick perhaps. I know it gets kinda difficult too when someone hasn't replied to a couple of emails, you can't really flood / spam them every day asking what's going on :|

Sadly not - the timing chains were done, I believe, approximately 5 years (?) ago and no more than about 50,000 miles - but Stealth are certain that it's the bottom tensioner making a lot of racket, after a bit of poking and prodding and I always trust their judgement on these things. They said that they've seen tensioners start to fail after shockingly small amounts of miles on some cars too (even less than the mileage I've done).

Mine's just at the point where I really need to get thinking about timing chains and even an engine rebuild.. but knowing what other sorts of cars I can get for what it'll cost to rebuild the engine is really making me think I just don't want to spend the money :(

I just dont think it's that fan control module, if bridging the pins makes the fan activate. It makes me think that coolant isn't circulating in the radiator properly, or the fan switch isn't working. I'd be thinking about getting the thermostat out and testing it in a pan of water to make sure it's opening at the correct temperatures.

We won't get that large corner plot sadly - that's a special plot they use for specific displays - we'll be back to a more normal, smaller plot for like 5-10 cars probably.

There is a test you can do to determine whether the fans actually work on the various speeds.. someone has thoughtfully done this on YouTube: My gut feeling is there's air somehow around by the radiator fan switch meaning it's not getting a reading, and causing the coolant to overheat - or the fan switch is not working correctly. Test the fans using the above method to confirm they're coming on correctly. I recently swapped from a known working radiator fan switch, to a new Febi one and I've found that the fan switch I did have in was a lower temperature one that kicked in a lot sooner. The 'standard' Febi one seems to let the temperatures get a lot higher than they did before, before the fan comes to life.
