  1. I find it very easy for a VR6.... Solitudes, Speedlines or Brands Hatch. I doubt I'll ever stick aftermarket wheels on my car! :)
  2. The car runs absolutely fine with just the cams in.. but you just get extra benefit when you follow it up with a map :)
  3. Nope. The front doesn't have to come off at all.. in fact the 2.0 16v rad is quite easy. It's been a few years since doing mine but pretty much a question of: * disconnect the bottom hose and drain the system * disconnect the top hose * disconnect the rad fan switch * unscrew the four bolts holding the fan cowling on and disconnect any wiring for that - lift out * Unbolt the two bolts holding the rad to the slam panel * lift the radiator out! It's really really easy - and I'm totally crap with the spanners :)
  4. I ran my VR6 with the cams by themselves for about 6 months before getting a remap done and the difference was immediately obvious. Much more urgency lower down in the rev range and just a much more complete feeling package. You would notice a good improvement with the cams by themselves but the remap gave, at least, the same improvement again as going from standard to having the cams fitted.. if that makes sense? Can't speak for the dyno - my figures were schitt for some reason! :(
  5. LOL :) You can abuse me here if you want.. I don't mind :D
  6. Nope.. but my folks live about 10-15 miles from there so in the event of an issue I can send my old man round, or I can head there to badger them in the event they mess you around ;)
  7. Supposed to drink milk to lessen the pain of chilli apparently, rather than water!
  8. Funny you said that about the Aston.. one of the supercar days I did a few years ago comprised of the R8, a Murcielago and the Aston DBS.. I was REALLY disappointed by the Aston. Without a doubt one of the prettiest cars around but one of the most dull things I'd ever driven!
  9. Not with 22MPG I'm not! :)
  10. I love how interested in the meets he is, and how many he gets around to. What a legend! :)
  11. Very nice - looks about as straight as they come mate! :) Nice work by the detailer...
  12. I think it was approximately £129 for the day but they sometimes come up around the £99 if you keep an eye out on their site! That Lister sounds like a monster!!
  13. I'm pretty sure I wasn't driving like a wuss. They have a no spin policy there - you spin the car, and you're ejected from the session! And I was very conscious that the car had absolutely no traction / stability, servo assistance on the brakes, ABS, etc etc and my experience of rear wheel drive is limited - so didn't want to get caught out by the power of the car. I never got to look down at the speedo at any point because I was concentrating so much but as I say, absolutely blasted past some proper supercars so I think I was going pretty well! :) And in fact just checked the "score" from my instructor and it says 89/100 - "Fast and smooth" ;)
  14. I think you'd be looking at between 30-40k for a good used example! :( Way more than I could afford. And you can get a heck of a lot of other good cars for that sort of money.
  15. Just going up to 288's will give you a substantial improvement... I run them on my VR6 and can't believe the difference they make over normal 280's!
  16. I wasn't going to, but I could be tempted if the weather forecast is ok..
  17. Wow - TSW Venoms! Surely they've gone round and come back into fashion now Baz? ;) Glad to hear you've still got a Corrado and that the R32 has gone to a good home - must have been tough letting that one go!
  18. I've got a black parcel shelf I think Baz, but it has no straps... of any use to you? Not too keen on posting - but would be happy to hang onto it till I'm going to be in the vicinity or at a meet? I've also got a set of basic Corrado mats - they're not genuine / original but in VGC and a good fit. Wouldn't want much for them or the shelf.
  19. Having a rather car oriented few weeks! I got back from the USA last week where I had the pleasure of spending a few days in this: This weekend, through a convoluted set of circumstances, I ended up getting a supercar experience day at Bruntingthorpe. I've been to several of these before and driven a good selection of cars. This time I went for another go in an R8 (drove one before.. REALLY liked it) and then decided to go for the Ariel Atom - and it was the supercharged one too! The R8 was excellent again. I've said it before but it really does feel like a Corrado on steroids - similar driving position and feel, but just so much quicker and sounds spectacular. The only let down is the semi-automatic gearbox.. horrid. The Atom however was on an entirely different level. The instructor said performance was 640bhp per tonne and I wasn't really sure what that would equate to on the road - but it made itself known pretty quickly. Not only was the car unbelievably low (you almost feel like you're lying down when you clamber into it) but the suspension is VERY uncompromising. The instructor advised me to stay clear of drain covers on the circuit - went over one and felt like I'd just fallen out of a tree and hit the floor.. I can't imagine driving one on public roads. But the performance... JESUS H. Because the car has no traction control or any other driver aids, for safety reasons they pretty much get you up to 5th gear and leave it there for the duration of the drive but that didn't take anything away from it. The only way to describe it was terrifying. Once you come out of a corner and straighten up you stand on the pedal and you get that howling induction noise from behind your ear and it's like being fired out of a cannon - and the rate of acceleration just got more and more savage till I simply couldn't believe how it was going. The instructor was excellent and really confidence inspiring and by the last lap I was absolutely flying through the chicanes at a pace I absolutely would not believe and was right on the on the limit of comfort / self preservation.. and it was quite enjoyable absolutely screaming past all the people dithering around in 911 Turbo's and Lamborghini Murcielago's ;) I have to say that if you want to try one of these cars out, 6th Gear Experiences were excellent and REALLY let me push the car as hard as I dared - I didn't feel short changed or like they nannied me at all. I'd come flying out of a corner and he was on the intercom saying "More power.. more power..." - I was thinking "I dare not go any quicker!!" :) Awesome. I think I want one. Got to experience that level of performance again.
  20. Sorry - I know it's not what you wanna hear, but even Stealth Racing suggest that it isn't worth the aggro of turbo'ing the old KR engine and just sticking a complete 20vT in... just far less hassle and will cost you less in the long run.

    Hello!

Great to hear you're still around and doing well mate - really pleased for you with the wedding news. It's usually down to a woman when someone vanishes off the forum!!
  22. Indeed. VW Motorsport only made, I believe, 70 of those engines! :|
