the seals are attached to the rear windows - i had mine removed by a windscreen fitter for a repaint he had them out pretty quickly with various sharp tools and cheese wire

jesus keyo vw certainly know how to charge for some panels ! not a bit of wonder why so many corrados were written off after minor prangs how bad is the rust i suppose you will not know until you start cant see how mk2 panel pieces would fit as the lines are totally different how about rust free panel cuts
  4. i would be happy to do that also - need to be able to upload photos easily for us non tech geeks
  5. well it passed errr just after several attempts on the rollers it showed an imbalance of 34% inspector said it should be 30% max he noticed it had new discs, calipers and pads and with a wink and a nod he said there not bedded in yet! - decent mot inspector !! After a quick chat he believed there may still be air stuck in the brake line He loves hot hatches of the pug type i will give the bleeding another go sometime shortly
  6. Well this evening i removed the calipers adjusted the pistons just enough to pass over the pads refitted the handbrake cables and no difference at all The hand brake tunnel is perfect (where the tubes meet the welded upstand) i cant see where the tubes pass through the floor with the rubber bungs due to the carpet but i cant see this having any affect anyway as its not under stress i will just see what happens on saturday i will get everything back together tomorrow evening
  7. interesting thoughts Fendervg!
  8. Sorry i have to start this again as i cant get back into my last post I have got a new mot date for a retest on Saturday so have to get this sorted i ordered new rear calipers and new handbrake cables (correct length 1015mm as stated on etka) So this evening i got them all fitted bled etc but still a problem exists and i am afraid it will fail its mot again the handbrake cables are still at slightly different lengths upon entering the handbrake tunnel - not as bad as previous Adjusting the cables makes the problem worse the nearside requires more - about 6mm difference with the adjustment and lock nuts fitted - surely these should pull up square? At one click of the handbrake lever the handbrake begins to bite but there is a difference on the rear wheels i can rotate them with a bit of force and the nearside wheel has less resistance easier to turn! am i reading to much in to this and once this is on the rollers with the handbrake fully engaged all should be fine?
  9. yes its true - i think it all comes down to quality control
  10. Even vw use china to manufacture parts - i got a new fuel filter from my local vw dealer paying the vw premium came in a vw box opened it only to find a made in china stamped on it!
  11. yes my friend fully wound back!! I have just ordered a new caliper to match the new one just fitted to the near side and i have ordered two new hand brake cables to the length as stated in etka 1615mm
  12. right i got back to this this evening - fitted the new caliper to the nearside Fed the hand brake cables through and now they are different lengths once entering the hand brake tunnel (10mm difference) off side longer (previously it was the nearside) now as i fitted the large chamfered nuts to the cables the the rear wheels are locked - i cant even fit the secondary lock nut What the hell am i doing wrong
  13. what was the mileage on this? (i assume its high with no history)
  14. Fail sheet says brake system, foot brake left/right differential high , rear brake system, parking brake effort low rear brake system, parking brake defective nearside rear As above i will replace the caliper and see what happens
  15. Hello thanks for the reply, it has a new bias valve installed and i did have it open while bleeding the system, The brakes were spongy but after a few hours driving they firmed up - i will order a new caliper and try it
  16. my car has failed its mot - nearside rear imbalance, parking brake insufficient. this car has had a complete brake replacement - everything last year it passed its mot but the inspector said the rear nearside is weak but this year the inspector put it down as a major defect i changed the rear calipers to mk3 vr6 although used had seen very little use as the caliper paint was still intact initially i thought i had fitted the wrong hand brake cables - mk2 golf but today i checked and they are correct - pagid 1603mm checked the handbrake cables and the nearside i can adjust right up to its max and with a bit of force i can still turn the rear nearside wheel with the handbrake on do i still have air in this brake line? although i took my time doing this using the 2 man method faulty caliper? thanks
  17. at an auction all it takes is 2 people who want it and who knows where it can end!
  18. Takes you to be careful with import tax on anything from the USA - has caught a lot of people out
  19. hey keyo thats what i call dedication to getting a car as good as new i am sure your wallet is empty at the moment!! mine just failed its mot today - cant believe it failed on brake imbalance on the rear - nearside handbrake - something tells me i have fitted mk2 golf handbrake cable and iam going to change the caliper as well. i fitted new mk3 rear calipers during its rebuild
  20. glad to here you got its going - good to see another G60
  21. andy go over everything you have done - cars this age things are brittle!!
  22. it would be good to get an emergency bonnet opening system in place - my cable broke last year and of course broke the grille trying to get it open Have a new grille but i am afraid to fit it as iam waiting for the cable to fail again!!
  23. hello andy Has the car just been giving trouble since your minor modifications were carried out?
  24. hello and welcome to g60 ownership with these cars its a learning curve in ownership as i am learning myself but do not be put off as these are cracking cars once sorted my own overfuelled when i got it but this was due to broken cabling to the lamda probe but it never stopped the car from starting it just consumed fuel at an alarmimg rate check the fuel pressure regulator (mounted on the fuel rail) Is the fuel pump running when the engine is turned off? Faulty injectors staying open? / There are other people on here with a vast experience of this engine who will give you a lot better advice
  25. slow to sell they were at the end - i recall talking to a senior vw salesman at the local dealership who spoke fondly of the car but said they had to heavily discount the cars at the end even a final storm just to shift unsold stock.. but it would be nice to own a car with that mileage
