Wah, boo hoo  Sorry to hear that. But if it does have to go then keeping it in the family sounds like a good option.

I like those alot, they suit it perfectly. I also like the colour of your C, especially in the second pic, it looks very classy 8)
-
Looks great! 8) I love that colour, I almost bought one in the same. Welcome! :)

I like dr_mat's suggestion, though I think its spelt "sasquatch". Or how about "hairbear", which is my wonderfully amusing rewording of the classic "care-bear".... hmm..

Cheers for the replies! and g-master for originally recommending it! VR6, nice one with the offers, they look like good prices! I don't mind them in this thread at all, but it if were to turn into a sticky or group-buy then I imagine it'd be best in a new topic, you can always link back to this one though  I don't really know how this stuff compares to stuff like Swissol or Zymol, but its certainly good value for what you get. It does require a whole day's work though, so set aside a weekend of pampering for your C before you start :)

I spent all of yesterday (8am till 8pm) polishing and waxing my car with the P21S kit from The Polishing Company. The results are amazing, I'd highly recommend it. I swear the bodywork is now more reflective than the glass... its like a mirror. 8) I had swirly and hazy paintwork before-hand, which is very noticeable on a black car. The P21S has removed nearly all of it. The only time I can see some swirling now is under strong artificial light, e.g. a petrol station court at night, but you really have to get up close and look hard to notice it. The kit was relatively easy to use, although took a lot of time. I followed it up with an Autoglym Extra Gloss coat, but to be honest this was more effort than it was worth, and didn't really add any extra 'gloss' the finish at all. Below are some hardcore close-up shots of bodywork:

Remember to use the how-to guide! :) :D
-
Good idea! It'd be nice if they fitted perfectly. And cheers for the info Ka`! :)
-
Kiwi shoe dye! Now that's quite inventive... :) Worth a go I reckon!
-
Cheers for the replies. I think I may try the autoglym, as I can pick that up at the local Halfords before the weekend.

Do you know how the original plastic ones were fixed on?

Can anyone recommend a product for cleaning my black trim (side strips, roof strips, handles, etc) so they look a little blacker? They're not bad, but compared to the black paintwork they look grey... I tried Back to Black on my Golf several years ago, but it was rubbish. The bumpers were grey again within a week. Seeing as I'm going to do a mega-polish this weekend I'm also going need it for getting rid of the inevitable 'polish-on-the-trim' accidents

Bojmobile, haha, stainless steel sink! that's the best description of it yet :) I'm not entirely sure what's caused it... my best guess is that the car's been subjected to years of washing with slightly abrasive cleaners. A lot of people use a brush to do the bodywork too, which is just terrible  (Addendum: I just found this site which tells you all about swirl marks and how to prevent them)

dinkus, you have PM.

Congrats! :D The VR6 engine is so nice isn't it? It still amazes me how much ooomph I can get out of it without even trying, but then I did come from a Mk2 Golf driver, which was a little underpowered to say the least :) I agree with what VR6 said, you should lower it. If its on the standard speedline wheels it will look so much better, you only need about 30mm drop for it to look nice too.

A friend just gave me a bottle of zymol stuff he had lying around, its called a "cleanser". Is this the stuff you're on about Bally? Its light blue in colour and smells absolutely gorgeous, like pineapples and coconuts. I could eat it  It's pretty good, I'd say its removed 50% of the swirly marks, and the paint is a shade darker in colours. The only problem is there wasn't much left in the bottle, and so I've only got one side of the car done!! I'd recommend it though, and my mate said it was relatively cheap. Anyway, I've also ordered the P21S stuff from the website above, so we'll see how that goes.

g-master, that kit from the polishing company looks good, and a reasonable price. I may try that first. Cheers.

The sun just popped out, so I went to take a picture as an example. You can just about see the streakyness I was trying to explain (if you ignore the dust and dirt... ahem).
-
Haha, I've not done that myself yet, but I'd be lying if I said I haven't been tempted :D I pulled up alongside someone in a Scirroco in a car park the other week, and he said to me: "Nice car! You don't want to swap do ya?"
-
Ever since I got my C its had a slightly streaky-haze on the paintwork. Its occurs in sort of circular patches, as if it follows the pattern of someone's attempts at polishing the car. But its only ever visible in very sunny light levels, where the reflection of the sun shows up the streaks. On dull, cloudy days, the paintwork looks smoother than a Steinway. Can anyone recommend anything to remove this funny haze? Preferably not too expensive either... I've tried using Autogylm super resin polish, of which I had an old bottle in the garage, but it hasn't cured it. Thanks!

Blimey! All that for just gobbling its own fumes.. So at worst, if the pipe's got a hole in it and its a vacuum, it'll just suck in a bit of air and unbalance the way the emissions are controlled. The ECU would compensate though I guess?
-
Wow, they look amazing when illuminated! Nice one :D 8)
-
Cheers for the info James. I haven't looked into the plumbing in the C, so I don't know much about it. What does the carbon canister do? And where is it located?
-
While working on my brakes over the weekend I noticed that this pipe (see image below) was resting against a heat-shield and had started to melt. Its located at the top-left of the engine and heads off somewhere beneath the airbox. It also has what looks like an in-line filter just out of shot in my pic. The pipe looks intact, despite having a melted dent in it, and I've tied it back out of the way for now. But I'd like to know whether its carries something important and whether I should replace it? Cheers.

I have to admit I'm constantly flipping through the MFA and announcing the various values out loud, much to the annoyance of my passengers
