Nice! I really like your wheels! 8) There's a vague similarity to the standard speedlines, but just a little fatter and slicker :) You know, I think I'd have those if I could afford a second set!
-
Hmm.. Yes, it could be.. I thought a worn release bearing only made a sound when you depressed the clutch pedal tho? The whining I get only seems to occur when I'm travelling along, and goes away when I press the clutch in. Ah, but then saying that it does occasionally make this loud groaning sound when pulling away under load, like a steep hill, could this be related??

Thanks for your replies guys. Henny, I checked the oil level last weekend, and it was ok. A similar thought ran through my mind at first.. dr_mat, yeah, I think the gear-change cables and mechanism thing are probably a bit off.. I tried adjusting it myself a while ago.. it was pretty difficult and didn't make much a difference, though my attempts were quite lame. I can see how this could be the cause of the crunching, but it wouldn't cause the whining, would it? The clutch isn't brilliant either, the biting-point feels like it changes position all the time and the car judders occasionally when pulling away, but I've got that one down on the cards to be looked at. It's the whining noise that concerns me...

Its done 73k. The gearbox isn't great, I must admit. Gear changes are crunchy and unpleasant.. but i kinda got used to it over the months I've owned it.. The whining noise goes away when its warmed up, but the gear changes still feel bad. :(

I've noticed the drain/refil plugs don't have any 'heads' on them, so to speak.. Does anyone know if it be possible to screw them right into the gearbox (and lose them) if you kept on tighening and tightening...? (Not that you would, cos that'd be stupid.. But I'm just curious.)

I've got quite a noisy whine from my gearbox for the first 5 minutes of driving. Sounds really lame when I pull away first thing in the morning. Could it just be the cold weather??... Does anyone else have this, or shouldn't I worry? Cheers for any replies. oh, p.s. I replaced the gearbox oil with MT90 about four months ago.

You can also buy it from demon tweeks for about £12 a bottle.

hi there! I agree, I like the vw badge on the front too, but I colour coded mine black to match the grill. Its still visible, but blends in really nice. Perhaps worth doing.

Oh, I missed this post the other day, dinkus. Well, yay! They arrived. But agh! They slapped on a charge... that sucks. Any luck finding stuff out? What are our options?

Does anyone else's pump sound like a loud flatulent toad in the boot-area when locking/unlocking?

Gah, that's terrible. I was stung once, when I first had my Golf and was a bit of a mechanical noob. I took it in because I couldn't get any heat out of the heater and it was kinda vital with winter and what-not. They charged me for a new heater matrix and labour at some extortionate cost.. A couple of years later (while ripping out the dash) I discovered they'd simply fixed the heater control cables and cogs behind the dashboard... The matrix had never been changed. I felt like a nob. (That's Sercombe Street Cars in Exeter btw, don't ever go there). -
I did the 'dremel' mod on mine (although I don't have a dremel, so I used a small file, and it took bloody ages). Its not bad, especially alongside some rain-X, and is as good as my old Mk2 golf was, so I'm happy for the meantime.

I like a bit of hiphop, although the more esoteric stuff, like Non Prophets, clouddead, Anticon, Jemini, etc. And anything on the Big Dada and Lex labels. I dig turntablism too, particularly Kid Koala and Peanut butter wolf. Gonna check out your site, sounds wicked :)

The top gear corrado special is available from the corrado club of canada's website. Nice site design too.

No, that's just common sense :)

Fantastic! :) 8)

Don't like the lines, or the rear of the car, its all a bit wobbly, but I'm going to defend his hair, because no one else has.

In my Golf I had to have a road tax disc, a parking permit for uni accom. and a parking permit for work!! I stacked them all up the bottom left of the window, and it looked stupid

Can't really comment on different ride qualities, but in terms of aesthetics I think the standard speedlines are really nice, especially when the car's been lowered a little. Don't think I'd go any larger than 16" tho.

There's TSR down the road in Bridgewater.. I've not tried them myself, but will be considering them for my next service. The previous owner used to take the C there and said they were very good.

Cheers stel g60, I went and bought myself some :)

Does anyone know if the GSF power steering fluid is the right one to use in my vr6? I am assured by the man on the phone its not auto transmission fluid, but after reading a few threads on here I want to make sure I'm buying the right type... Its considerably cheaper than the stealers you see.. (about £6). Thanks.

Hmm.. My koni coilovers have this too, only its a slightly larger gap.. but if its fine then thats ok :)

To get the whole carpet up is a pain. What i did was lift one side of the carpet up and remove the padding beneath for drying elsewhere. The carpets are much thinner and dry a lot quicker, so I left them in the car (but admittedly it was summer)... To lift the carpet up simply remove the passenger seat (undo the small bolt at the front of the runner under the seat, then slide the whole thing out backwards, surprisingly simple, but easier with two people (and remember to disconnect the heater wire if you've got leather!)), then remove the interior plastic door-trim near the sill (just pops off), and undo the seat-belt bar at the bottom. This should allow you to lift up enough of the carpet to get the padding out. (You may need to take a bit of the dash out for greater access, but it just screws off.)

Get those carpets up and out to dry! Otherwise the inside of your car will smell like the bog of eternal stench. :gag: The padding under the carpets is a great water-absorber... I left mine wet inside my Golf for several months and they went all green and moldy..
