my bonnet cable was snapped when i got my vr6, you had to tugg on rope to release the bonnet, if you need to replace the cable, dont fork out £40+ for one when a bicycle tandem brake cable will do for £4.00

haha thats awesome!!! loven them wheels aswell!

ah time to bust out the Death Booth from hell once again, i realy fancied the look of the smoothed bumper, except im keeping the number plate recess, sourced a bumper from ebay which to my surprise came with a 90mm splitter! shame i cant use it because of where i live/park.the bumper took me hours to prep as it was in prety poor condition, had to use a hairdryer to soften the plastic up so i could reshape it as the inside corner had been pressed in,anyway heres some pics so far :) had to sand prety much all the lacquer off as you can see in the pic it was peeling badly, i had some plastic which i cut to size and useing a soldering iron and the offcuts as welding rods i melted them together, prety sure you cant use just any plastic but the stuff i used worked an absolute treat! btw the area to be melted is clean and paint free! roughed it up with a dremel to allow better adhesion, here it is all smoothed off, i used u-pol SmC which is plastic filler with carbon fibre thrown in, i then used a regular good quality body filler for the top layer so it was prety smooth, and used a guide coat of black spray to get a good flat level area whilst sanding, also melted this bottom corner back together is it was flapping all over the place, my improvised bumper jigg, my carpentry skills know no limits lol 2k high build primer, this stuff is thick! mixing ratio 3:1 + a dash of thinners. also primed my cam cover and engine cover ready for the basecoat LC9Z :) so its all primed, just need a good day so i can sand a few imperfections out and maybe go over it again and then give it some colour!! going to try and fit some led indicators in the headlights theres a forum member that has done this,i was considering maybe looseing the highbeam and replace that with an indicator? here in guernsey most roads are litt up and to be fair you cant use highbeam over here for more then a 40 secs- 1minute as you allways come head on with another car, so the highbeams an option.

looking good buddy!! where are your front calipers from? because i have exactly the same ones with a 288 disc setup,i belive the standard size to be 280mm? so im prety sure mine have been upgraded by a previous owner,

just stumbled upon a mk3 golf vr6 for £200 with 63k! advertised localy with a possible clutch problem. thought wow for £200 that might come in handy for spares, turned up had a good butchers and i spotted the driveshaft bolts had all come loose and as a result bent and sheered the bolts! also the fuel lines were perished and spraying petrol everywhere! he must of been useing it like that?!got my friend to tow me back to my works carpark and spent the evening replaceing the bent/snapped bolts, luckily i had a spare set of bolts which was for the corrado that i never used! Happy days :) heres the culprit! when i spkoe to him on the phone he said he thinks the gearbox mount might of snapped? as he heard a loud noise, well this explains it! its funny how things work out, i ordered these drivshaft bolts for my corrado a few months ago and kinda felt guilty that i didnt put them in but now i know why! :) the vr6! apparently it had the head skimmed and the gasket replaced 2years ago, the coolant looks fresh as daisys! all this motor needs is,oil change, oil cooler seals, rear disc pads,2 new tyres, engine bay fuel hoses{which i did today} and a blady good clean inside and out!.might just sort the problems out and put it out for £1000 as i dont need another car but i could hardly turn down a vr6 for £200!

how come you wanna sell? keep at it!!!!

'Breaking' 16v 2l. Audioscape, Lenso RS4's + lots more
VW_OwneR_85 replied to .A.N.T.'s topic in Cars for Breaking
is the shell getting scrapped? because i need a repair section for my corrado, its the rear passenger side corner where the bumper guide is, mine is completly corroded out up to the arch, i'll get a pic soon. -
thankyou, you just cant beat the feeling of solving a problem by DIY but when it goes wrong can be abit stressfull for me as most of my work is done at my works car park as i dont have a permanant place to work on it so it kinda has to be finished the same day.heres my major to do list! 1:- drivers door hinge pin! , door pin has play and the door drags slightly on the sill, i also have a dent that has split the paint so its probably best i get the dent pulled and remove the door, press out or punch out the pin and sand out the split , prep then respray the door whilst its off. 2:- left hand door has paint blistering/bubbling due to bad prep, so samething on this door, 3:-rust bubbling in either corner of windscreen, i realy dont know what to do here, 4:-rear passenger bumper mount area has corroded away, due to sun roof drain pipe? its all corroded up to the arch and idealy need a written off corrado to cut metal off to weld on mine, but its hidden by the bumper so not to bad, 5:- sort out a gash repair on the rear passenger side sill? or rocker? not sure what its called exactly but its had a gash filler repair, 6:- replace brake line/fittings, 7:- tail gate rust, paint split due to rust, thats all it kinda needs to be mint, i might save up some money and try and rent a shed/workshop through the winter and atleast have ago, the other stuff thats not important -my bandded steals!!!! hopefully next week i'll have a test wheel!! -shaved front bumper, going to keep the plate reccess, so no fog or indicators, just not sure where im going to put the indicators? maybe put the indicator in with the high beam some how? just going to source another front bumper and do it as and when, -replace water pump for peice of mind, replace rad thermo switch for lower temp one, and thats the shed turned palace lol

thanks bud,i brought the hicon gt's not tx's though, them kw v1's have the airbag for ride hieght?, i was actualy realy surprised with the ride comfort thought they would be a little harsher then standard but there spot on,still need to get wheel alignment just cant find motivation to jack the front up to change the track rod end lol even though its a 5min job,

great looking car! good effort with the paint, just went through something similar myself and its turned out prety good, DIY FTW!, in regards to secruity, my corrado has {by a previous owner} a gear stick lock, has like a plate welded in and you then pass a padlock through it dont know if there well known or not? but luckily where im from theft is the least of our worrys,

thanks guys, yea the camper belongs to my boss ian, he also has another which is a flatbed pickup style in blue/white which has also been restored, he loves his campers, yea the C seems like its had a hard life, its running sweet at the mo, just a few little things that i wanna sort out then the body issues,it has rust scabbing on the rear passenger arch, tail gate hinges has rust forming under the paint and theres 2 rust bubbles either side of the windscreen, this one was deffinatly driven in the winter, luckily engine wise iv been lucky, at 130k it uses no oil and no water and drives realy smooth...
-
one of the jobs handed to me by the previous owner was a ring down to bare metal on the bonnet which was left by a subaru bonnet scoop!!,iv wanted to have a real go at painting for some time now, so i thought f-it and went and brought a compressor and a pair of paint guns and all the nessacery bits n bobs and gave it a blady good go! heres the ring! wtf were they thinking?! heres the spray{DeatH} booth from hell. heres the underside before, underside just blown over with the basecoat, didnt take anymore spray pics in the death booth. i got orange peel prety bad on the lacqour, think it was down to my gun? just halfway through polishing, ah yea can see the clouds!! heres the finished peice,im realy pleased with how its turned out, considering it was done in my garden gazebo whilst constantly fighting dust and the wind/rain :( deffinatly didnt save myself money by doing it myself, but i now have a compressor and iv learnt abit about spray paintin so its all good! :) think it looks better without the vr6 badge?
-
luckily my corrado vr6 i brought {engine wise} has been spot on! has 130k on the clock, uses no oil,no coolant and is prety smooth now i got a new exhaust system, chains n guides could do with being done{slight noise from them not bad tho} even though i think the top half has been done at some point as theres blue sealant seeping out the case join, iv seen all the how to guides etc doesnt look to bad tbh,but would be cool to see how others get on with it,if you could some pics up if you start it that woud be sweet!

umm a tough one! option 1:- sell it,regret it, but your 3-4k{or however much its worth} richer!! option 2:- keep it! its doing no harm where it is! and you wont have the hassel of finding another good one! option 3:-Sell it and buy another corrado for half or less of its price! drive it and not care! just like everyone else. personaly i like option 3 as you still get a corrado and some moneys :)

Hello dam I love this car ! 1.8 help ?
VW_OwneR_85 replied to Crispy Squirrel's topic in Newbies Hangout
haha "the vr6 is the one to go for" either way whatever model you choose your love it!! the corrado is SIck!!. -
smoothed off that run i had then blown over with paint so i got that sorted, shot the lacquer just before but got a few nasty runs as i used a different gun so i wasnt used to it{mainly pressure differance, even though i did a test peice on card im not used to judgeing lacquer},this is only on the underside, i got used to the new gun half way through doing the underside, got a good feeling its gona turn out ok though, just letting that lacquer dry then tomo i'll flip it over and do the top side, then sand out and buff them runs, theres a few little bits of airborn dirt on the top of the lacquer but i cant help that as i dont have a medicaly clean enviroment,i upgraded my mask/respirater lol basicaly wrapped a t shirt over my respirater, abit dodgey but its worked great cant smell paint etc! hopefully the top should be a doddle as its smooth theres no reinforcment bars to paint around/judge etc, only thing im worried about is the lacquer is still tacky so its got more chance of airborn dirt getting stuck to it,normaly how long does it take to get touch dry?

Hope I've made the right move with the engine colour ?!?!?

urgent help needed with tyres stretch , clearing arches, lowering , etc
VW_OwneR_85 replied to hawwy's topic in Drivetrain
looks like there poked out atleast 20-25mm to much, you need to take that away some how, if you cant take that away by removeing adapters/spacers your skrewed, either that or pay alot of money and have your arch's re done to suit. -
ah cool, not cool on the mask situation though, got tuesday to friday off work for my bonnet,so i need to get something good tomo, tbh i think idd be prety fooked if i had used this mask with that 2k..cant realy afford to spend much though ,thought about buyn a military gas mask, you can get them with new sealed filters, surely if they can with stand nuclear bio chemicals, isosynates or however its spelt shouldnt be a problem..
-
nice 1, its a 2k lacquer kit iv got aswell with standard hardner,do you know roughly how long iv got to get it out my gun before it starts going off?, thought i had a good enough respirator for this basecoat but tbh i feel a little light headed :) probably best i get something abit better for the 2k,this is what i used, clearly not good enough for the basecoat. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=390298576080&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT
-
just looked at the tin, it doesnt say anything about what brand it is, it has a label which has been printed off from the company i brought it from, just says industrial basecoat, vw blck magic LC9Z etc etc, the lacquer though seems to be kapci?http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280620898259&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT hers a link to it, yea with the run im not gona lie, i was trying to hide something lol i didnt want to spend all day preping the underside :( yea its in the basecoat, the black in the first photo is spray can black from a previous owner, not to get confused with the new paint.my car used to be white and seems to be decently done in metalic black.
-
well so far so good,i did a test peice to see if my basecoat reacts with the primer i used on the repair and its all good! so thats going to save me a shed load of time! started the underside today, heres a before shot and after, still needs lacquer though, got a feeling im going to mess it up though :( got one big ish run,im going to sort that tomo when its atleast dryed properly, crappy pic i know, but iv only got my phone camera..
