VW_OwneR_85 replied to CorradoDriver's topic in General Car Chat
haha so many people leaving oil caps off! should get a sticker put on the slam panel! "NOW check oil cap!" -
glad your loven the vr6!! there just soo nice to cruise around in, think only downside is that i visit the petrol pump a little more then with my previous car but its worth every penny :) ,completly agree with the 15" wheels, especialy for me with where i live the roads can be abit nasty.also with your drive, could you not make a ramp or smooth it out with cement?

hi,im chris from guernsey in the channel islands, been posting on here for awhile now, thought its best to post up some pics and progress of the shed i brought a few months back, i say shed because it literaly was a shed, i took a massive risk bringing it back home, car had been idle for almost 2 years,no tax no mot and was never used properly by my previous owner, got it fairly cheap because of all that,at the time i didnt have £2-4k to spend, when we test drove it,it cut out, due to the ht leads arching,LMAO the owner got a shock when he started fiddling with the leads :) his m8 covered them in vasalene which sorted out the kangaroo'ing, i had to make it back from guildford to weymouth for the ferry so i wasnt loveing this at all, at one point i actualy said na m8 its not worth it! but then my friend {who lives in uk}said fxxx it!, get it i'll stay behind you on the way back, so i chanced it, and worked out great! didnt fail on me once,my car used to be white but has had a respray in metalic black, comes with a huge list of little problems, mainly body work, but im happy with it,keeps me interested, like to say thanks to everyone here for answering any of my threads/problems.. had to sort out the kangarooing so new plugs, leads, dizzy cap, rotor arm also changed the cam cover gasket as it had a slight weep,{sry no pics}, new discs and bearings on the rear, didnt take long to fit, hardest part was removing the caliper carrier, next up was sorting the handbrake out! mk4 calipers and conversion hoses.. wasnt to bad to install, apart from the brake fitting being seized to the copper hard line, had a spongy feel with the new pads bedding to the disc even after being bled 4 times, its all worn in now, brakes are spot on! did an oil and filter change and sorted out a leak from the knock sensor and oil cooler, this seal prety much turned to plastic. gota love new parts :) if you havnt got one of these sealey oil drain pans idd get one! they make oil changes an absolute doddle! next up was replaceing the wishbones with new 1's with r32/tt bushs along with the balljoints and arb droplinks,i hit a huge problem!!! but luckily a forum member guided me in the right direction with what to do! thanks again matt i didnt take anymore pics of the wishbones etc as i didnt realy intend to post pics up, got my milltek system with decat pipe from awesome :) WOW it was like driveing a different car! the throttle response is tightened up in the lower rev range and just felt smoother! one of my shock dampers was buggered and the springs looked like they were about to snapp so i thought AH what the hell! new shocks top mounts and bearings! did the rears after work in the evening, gota love seized bolts... NART!! got abit of rust bubbling on the arch you can just see, thats one of the body issuses to sort out. i didnt take any pics of the front shock install but i did take pics of the wheel bearings which i did the same time, the hammer and socket method failed big time! think i was abit Naive here thinking i could do it with a hammer and suitable size sockets, just pressing the hub back in, if i had the time i would of had them blasted and painted up, but my car has to be driveable at the end of the day. just got to replace a ball joint i renewed as the rubbers split! buy cheap buy twice! then its going in for wheel alignment, and hopefully wont have to do anything to the front again! :) im in the proccess of getting some 15" steels banded,so i'll hopefully have those ready in roughly 2weeks

lol i know,it was a subaru scoop aswell, also had a subaru style drain pipe exhaust which did it no good!!, i rescued this car from an otherwise unhappy life, just got to sort this bonnet mess out....guess i could be greatful they didnt cut into the bonnet?

this is how it was when i first got it,it was down to bare metal, then i filled it in with high build primer and primer from a can and a colour matched can, but now iv brought a compressor i want to do the job properly with a spray gun :) so looks like iv got to remove all trace of the spray can primer before i can do anything. ---------- Post added at 05:32 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:06 PM ---------- which primer would i use with base coat paint? i see 2k primers, cellulose primers but non listed for basecoat paints? im guessing idd be safe with either of these? heres the kit iv brought, btw my car isnt a standard corrado colour, hence why iv brought LC9Z http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280620898259&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT

would this be right? sand down as much as possible, remove old primer, fill in old primer section, block sand level useing guide coat then basecoat on top, then lacquer? cheers.
-
hi,after abit of advice realy, i wanna have a go at spraying my bonnet, obviously theres no way in hell i can do a finish like the pro's can get, got a base coat kit {LC9Z} with 2k lacquer, my bonnet has had a spray can repair which was down to bare metal. The previous owner pulled off a glued bonnet scoop which left a ring which i filled and leveld with primer then colour as a temporary measure. Am i going to have to apply a sealer once iv sanded it down? then a primer on top of the sealer? im thinking the basecoat will react with the spray can repair if i spray on top of the old paint? thanks.....

good blady work!! did you get it out in 1 peice? and was the £190 for the windscreen? any pics?
-
on my vr6 my wheels have an offset of 43 im useing 15mm hub centric on the front and 20mm hubcentric on the rear, brings them prety much flush with the arch edge, btw just to give you guys a heads up ,15mm hubcentric spacers do not fit on the rear of mine as the disc spigot area fouls on the inside lip of the spacer leaveing a 5mm gap between the spacer and the disc,{so it wont pull together when you tighten down} 20mm spacer minimum required on the rear of mine,on the front its ok as the disc takes up that 5mm,

nice work there m8!looking sweet, glad to see it saved from an otherwise neglected life..
-
ah cheers m8, so its not too too bad then..

is it possible that the water pump is failing? i.e not clearing the airlocks like it would do? pressure is what clears airlocks, garden hose in one end and an open connection at the other end ,blast mains water through it,thats what we did on gravity heating systems that got airlocked,im guessing it would be ok to use this method on a cars system?
-
luckily mines not at that stage yet, although the bubbles prety big,

hello, does anyone know the rough price of a windscreen? iv heard they are a nightmare to remove as there glued in,and would probably break on removal anyway, iv got rust bubbles in both top corners so idealy i would smash the windscreen out get everything cleaned up, expose the nasty rust and go from there!
-
finnaly sorted my phone camera out heres some pics of that nightmare, shame i didnt take a finished shot, just wanted it done asap, thanks again :)

Slight stutter and running problems on G60..solved
VW_OwneR_85 replied to dannyboy's topic in Engine Bay
nice one, gotta love it when things work out. -
my vr6 is prone to getting a damp maf plug because the way the cable was routed, water would follow the cable down into the maf plug, if it was slightly damp the idle would rev up n down abit then idle low the battery light would come on then cut out but still drivable, if the plug was flooded the car would be undriveable!! basicaly un plug ya maf and spray wd-40 or any water displacer on the maf plug connections,
-
might be other things aswell, what engine is it?
-
phone up and get some quotes from a number of companys, that'l be your best bet if you want a straight answer.

hello i have a 93 obd1 vr6, should i be hearing my fuel pump prime on the 1st turn of the key? because the 1st start in the morning is sometimes a hard start @ 4secs max and when it goes its like if it wants you to put your foot down abit but if you switch off and back on it'll start perfect! and will continue to start perfect for the rest of the day, its like if it looses fuel pressure over night and the 1st start is building that pressure back up,car runs sweet! had new leads, plugs, dizzy cap, rotor arm etc, cheers..
-
thanks for the tip, im going to be renewing mine soon i also have a bit of rust/paint split around the boot hinge so its going to need repairing and painting in the future, how much did you pay for the pair? iv seen some on ebay for around £145 i think?
-
ahh,cheers for the replys

hello, iv recently seen some awesome looking pics of corrados with deleted fog lights and indicators a.k.a shaved bumper, noticed the indicators have been moved into the headlights, does anyone know if these are custom made? or is there a company out there producing these? cheers..
