its a slag mate...unless your very handy/lucky your prob gona have to take the head off/drop the engine....its tricky to take the manifold off with it on the bench consider paying a decent garage...they will heat the nuts and possibly save snapping em
-
i too sufer the 5k flat....stg 4 jabba ,std cam,3.5 fpr,no cat...i have had it with std grey inj and sns chip and with reds with chip...both with 68/65mm...the best i could do was 375ohms on the c/o pot but its too rich bilal..cant you test one of these guys cars??as it sounds like we ALL have some engine fault ??? anyone know where to get the hall sender kit cheep??
-
you need to be a bit specific...air rushing noise? split silencer?...possibly a wheel arch liner hanging down? pebble inthe brake pads? gearbox noise? wheel bearings tend to drone...like wrr wrrr wrr ..and it gets better/worse on corners
-
i assume your filter is foam?....you'l be ok with a k&n..theyre oily but not much comes off..i use em on both my cars
-
tell us more...is your engine standard/modified??
-
yeah they "claimed" 195-200bhp for mine with stg4 68mm pulley and chip...thats a bit hopfull though..id recon 175 is more like it i felt they werent really intrested in g60's its all 20v there now
-
on top of a std rebuild(apex strips ,bearings etc)....they claim its ported,id decribe it as a clean up of the casting marks...compared to some others porting its very mild
-
theres no way i would inform the insurance comp....i watched jabba do mine...all you get(as well as the rebuild bits) is a steel cased bearing(std is plastic?) so that it doesnt melt at high revs...a wider belt ,so less chance of snaping...and they clean up the casting a bit(not alot in my case :x )...so its more a case of optimised than modified
-
beavis tells me my 5k flat spot could be related to a dodgy hall sender, before i order a new un can anyone give more info?...i cant afford to buy something i dont need while im here..wheres the best/cheepest place to buy??and should look for a hall sender or new dist thanks
-
possibly the cl pump runs overnight/for hrs and runs the battery down..maybe try disconecting it for a while otherwise vw's seem to have poor wiring..i remade a set for the battery earth ,pos,alt-starter conection ..it turns alot quicker now
-
you'l have no probs with the chain filled hangers...ive been using em for like 6+ years they still fine
-
id thought of gluing/fibre glassing a flange onto the bottom of the airbox..then running a flexy tube down to behind the bumper
-
ive always managed with a trolley and some stands...some are easier than others
-
one other thing gav...could the custom chip have been made to suit a failing hall sender??....although id imagine the guy would have sussed it
-
nooooooo problem....only prob would be if you wanted to use the whole loom obviously
-
1st job should be charger overhaul...or if money is tight a new drive belt you can check the c/o pot is set at 450 ohms on the outer pins, and the throttle switches work on open closed positions have a look on the snstuning site
-
beavis...thats a new one, never considered that..is there any other sytmtoms to prove its the hall sender? if it needs one it will get one,but ive wasted alot cash on it recently wheres the best source for the hall sender and while im asking Q's ..any symtoms for the c/o pot? and im assuming it would ping alot if the knock sensor was shot?
-
gazza...just wondered if you get a flat spot around 5k?
-
Which would be best 10/40 or 15/40 oil for 16v on 126k miles

i use synta gold in a 150k orig engine...no probs, your just gona have to try something and see if you like it...the thicker ones may run a little quieter ...thinner ones may leak or burn more the synta range sems to be dependable...try one and see how it goes -
16v g60....would this fit a golf?? ....where does it bolt to i.e downpipe/manifold ?
-
toby...whats the tool like? would there be any chance of making one ?
-
i replaced my cat on the g60....NO differance at all..NOTHING, its not worth getting your hands dirty until the cat clogs btw the cat looks like a little bomb with some wires coming out...roughly under the gearstick :)
-
just to confuse you some more...when mine started clonking i brought raceland dampers...theyre cheepies that get both good and bad reviews, anyhow i run these with my weitec spring and theyre great...especially for £100 ish 2 yr warrenty...worth a thought maybe??
-
redline mt90 is better for g60 boxes...theres lots you can do to improve things...look at the gearstick and see if any bushes are worn, and check the cable ends at the g/box end....i found some slop that i removed by fitting a copper washer here and there loosen both cables at the g/box...wiggle the shifter and carefully tighten them,it may take a few tries...have a search theres a few articles on the net about it id imagine youve hit the gearstick a bit hard and lost its ajustment
-
i had a set a few years back....the ajuster rod flew out the front shock and put a dent in my bonnet the rears clonked from new....all went rusty as hell in no time, although the ride was pretty good no complaints there
