Louder VR6

I've had the just a cone filter (too loud and rough idle) then I went to standard air box (too quiet) then to BMC (great sound but pricey) then to supercharger (too loud) then I went back to standard and decided to chop the front lower section off the standard air box (it wasn't in good nick anyway and snorkel opening was cracked) and that sounds perfect to me, it is just a touch quieter than the BMC and cost nothing :)

5. UPDATE: - I have indeed entered a car now and we have a blog running here http://atomhawk.wordpress.com Please take a look, comment and take the **** :) we need all the support we can get!
6. Wow that's a pain. At least the vortech ones uses off the shelf bearings and seals
7. Hi, if you can Pm me payment details for the rear engine mount, that would be great. For the gearbox, I am tempted as I want to get mine refreshed with new syncros and a shorter final drive but this would allow me to get it done without having the car off the road for ages. However postage is going to make it pricey, Where are you in West yorks? I am in Newcastle so may be able to come pick it up. Cheers Ron
8. Right folks, bump for these as new wheels arrive next week. They really are lovely, mint condition and fit without any messing about. Even use standard bolts as they are OEM wheels. Few pics from last week.
9. I foolishly sold mine when I moved to supercharging but now I'm back to NA I'd like another. Must be complete and clean. Cheers Ron
10. If anyone hold parts it will be Superchargerrebuilds (google search) who are great for Vortech repair kits or RUF supercharger who bought the Z engineering tooling.
11. No I am not selling mate. Had a moment of weakness after I did the heater matrix......that task nearly broke me ;)
12. Sold the RH cups earlier this week. Back on the BBS until my next choice of rims arrive :)
13. Ah ah Mr Clumpster......all in good time my friend....all in good time ;)
14. Hey guys, How do you check for "correct play" in the wheel bearings? I have to swap wheels again and fancy checking mine while she is jacked up.
15. Bill I had for my old Corrado VR6, rebuild at AMD in 2001 (when they were good) was about £3000 and that was for reboring a 2.8 block to 2.9, fitting new VR6 pistons and bearings etc refurbing the head, new clutch, chains/guides etc
16. Give it time guys, the last run of Corrado's was still only 18 years ago. When the 1972 VW beetle I owned was 18 yrs old in 1990 my dad bought it for me for £500 When I bought my 1983 MK1 GTI when it was 20 yrs old I paid £2000 When I bought my 1988 MK2 GTI when it was 17 yrs old I paid £1200 All those cars were rock bottom at the 15-20yr mark and now all command much more money. The corrado won't be worth a lot more until it is about 30 yrs old and not many are left.....that is just the way it goes!
17. On mine, my passenger wheel was sticking out a bit and I thought it was maybe an early wing fitted to a late car but after close inspection, my camber was out. Got that sorted and they both look spot on.
18. I like them, but not sure about the audi centre caps
19. It's not a hard job, just tedious and time consuming. Took me about 12-14hours for the job, chipping away at it over 3-4 weekends. To do again now would take me half the time as I wasted a few hours trying to do it without removing the dash, ultimately realised that removing the dash was only about 1.5 hours more work as a damn side easier in the knuckles ;)
20. Well I have a £1000+ worth of suspension, bigger brakes with all steed braided lines and performance pads, poly bushed and vibratechnics mounts, wider wheels and suspension geometry set up............not sure what more I could have done? It's not about handling, nor am I saying that the charger is crap. If you want 50-60 more bhp and you don't mind that power all being up top (ie you rev the balls off it all the time) then it does what it should. The key issue is that the chassis and engine compliment each other nicely as a standard package. It is a four seat coupe with reasonable comfort, power and handling. By pushing up the handling with aftermarket suspension....we reduce comfort etc Every upgrade is not a true upgrade but more a trade off. Better handling comes at a cost of ride quality. More power come at a cost of reliability and often, day to day drivability. You get the picture, basically the standard corrado is a good balance. The best corrado I owned has a VWM VSR, Koni yellows on standard springs and a AmD remap (back who they were good)
