  1. Yep, mine's in pride of place in the kitchen :D That said I still haven't got your address or my refund, this tape unit isn't going to post itself you know! ;)
  2. Ooh, does that mean mine are nearly done? :) I do need the wiper holes in my windscreen trim btw, I like being able to see when it's raining! Stone
  3. This is probably a really obvious question but what did you do with the other pipe? I must be missing something...unless yours is ODB2? Stone
  4. I've got a Bosch silver in mine - £120 from Halfords (couldn't turn it over at all so no chance to shop around!) £45 is a steal. Go for the biggest you can fit on the tray, then you have a bit more reserve. Worth double-checking you don't have anything as a constant drain too - mine had a big amp in the boot that was always on, which didn't help. Stone
  5. Well, I gave the coilpack a good few squirts with a water mister and couldn't see any arcing - and adding water to the MAF plug made no difference either. Predictably enough it's now running fine! Stone
  6. Thanks chaps, when it's light I'll have a look!
  7. I've noticed I occasionally get a bit of chugging / poor throttle response on the VR6 - seems to affect it from 0-1200rpm, and only when it's raining hard (with standing water) or if I spill anything near the battery when topping up washer fluid or coolant. The rest of the time it seems fine  Should I be worried? (I was thinking possibly a dodgy bit of insulation on the coilpack?) I've attached some audio - you can hear it chugging about 14 seconds in. This is recorded near the exhaust after a 45-minute run. link to audio Stone
  8. Normally don't have any trouble, but I did have a tricked-out M3 tailgating me on the M20 the other day. He looked quite surprised when I took off and we spent the next 20 miles trading places
  9. Sorry, yes, I wasn't being very clear. I meant if you swap from 17s to 16s then you can raise the suspension by half an inch to maintain the same height, as the overall wheel diameter's decreased. I think? Stone
  10. Very nice! Where did the cover come from? Mine's cracked and that looks great with the polished manifold Stone
  11. The tyres are the same size, but will putting them on the smaller rim not give you more arch clearance? This calculator shows an inch extra diameter on 195/40/17s over 195/40/16s, so you can have an extra inch of travel on your suspension and smooth out some more of the bumps. I think it varies on your taste as well to be honest. My ride quality was absolutely terrible when I bought the car - although it had decent adjustable-damping Konis fitted, the lowering springs gave a very aggressive drop (80+mm! I was still scraping my 50mm splitter) and it was incredibly harsh. I swapped over to the el-cheapo JOM coilies just to tide me over until I had the engine sorted and it was a huge improvement: dialling it up 45mm still leaves it low but it's got much better. The only real problem I have now is that the springs are slightly overworked - the JOM kit claims to fit everything from Mk3 Golf to Polo to various Seats, so the VR6 lump makes them make comedy creaking noises. This is with 215/40/17s btw, once I get the Ultraleggeras refurbed I'm guessing it will improve again :) Stone
  12. Looking great! Missing pics of the coated manifold though ;) Could you give us ballpark figure of how much it cost? I was quoted ~£2500 for mine (glass out, doors off, taken back to bare metal, dents knocked out, rust patched/welded up, rolled and pulled rear arches) but that looks like an excellent job. Stone
  13. I got a hard copy of the Bentley manual They had to import it from Jamaica! Stone
  14. The Amazon one looks like it's for a delay to me, not a dimmer - if mine is standard then you should already have one! (my interior light doesn't shut off until ~5 seconds after I shut the door) Using a voltage follower is the 'correct' way to do it but using a large cap would probably work too. I've got some 741s in the bits box so I'll have a play once I'm back home. Should be possible to do on a fairly small bit of veroboard which would fit under the sunroof motor cover. Stone
  15. It's not on the DVLA tax database, so I'd guess it's either dead or still in Ireland. Not sure if there's an Irish equivalent? Stone
  16. It fell off earlier  The tape it comes with is a little on the feeble side...
  17. Quick snap - it was quite sunny so it didn't show up very well, but you get the idea. Stone
  18. I've always thought the new Scirocco looks a lot closer to the Corrado than the old Scirocco, and this picture just reinforces it. Especially with the swept-up rear windows to give you minimum visibility out of the back  I nearly bought a new Scirocco actually, then common sense prevailed when I found out the dealers wanted £20k for one... That's a good point actually - lots of people say they're claustrophobic but I don't feel it in mine. Since I haven't sat in any others with black leather, what was the standard headliner colour? I've got a cream one in mine which breaks it up quite well - normal? Stone
  19. With power the changer will load and read discs whether it's attached to a head unit or not. 'No changer' means the serial connection between the two isn't working properly, 'no CD' could be the serial connection or a faulty changer not telling the Gamma it has discs in. Pics of the changer, cable and back of the Gamma would help.
  20. There was someone parked there at the time, so no  I'll try and sort one out in the morning. It's not quite as bright as the two main brake lights but much better than stock - plus the LEDs won't ever need replacing. The light unit was this one from earlier in the thread - For £5.30 it seemed rude not to! I did sand the text off it though... Stone
  21. Yes, it made sense in retrospect! I'll put a blob of silicon over the extra hole next time I have the trim off. Ah, I went in the opposite direction - since the wire was coming out of the trim at the rear of the headlining I could tuck it under the c-pillar cover and pull on the loose end until it disappeared. The hardest bit was getting it between the pillar cover and the bit of plastic the rear speaker sits in - I just peeled up the rubber hatch trim slightly and then pushed it through with my skewer. Yep, I can't see it but I feel a bit safer! Seeing the various 'some tit wrote off my C' threads had given me the fear... Anyway, pics: Stone
  22. Don't think that's right, I have two driver's side arms (6X2 998 406) and a swapped pair of blades (Lupo passenger side goes on Corrado driver's side, Lupo driver's side goes on Corrado passenger's side). Makes a huge difference! You need to be quite careful lining them up when you install them as the spline's quite coarse and you only have one notch's leeway to get them in the right place, or the passenger side clunks over the rain tray when it drops down to the bottom 'home' position. I'm sure you'll figure it out :) Stone
  23. Thanks for the help, just fitted my temporary eBay special and it works fine :D What could be slightly clearer is that the hole in step 6) needs to be drilled through two layers - couldn't quite get my finger in where the grommet went so I thought there was something structural behind it and ended up drilling a second hole...never mind. Getting the wire through the rubber tube is pretty hard as well! (I taped the last 6" of the wire to a bamboo skewer and fed it through that way) It was slightly more complicated as I had to route it backwards because the wire came attached to the light unit, but it all worked out OK once I'd figured out how to reattach the trim. I flaked off some of the galvanised coating from the plastic bulb base and soldered it directly onto the metal tracks there, reinforced with some epoxy it's pretty bulletproof. Now the wiring's in place it should be pretty easy to swap out the LED unit for a Rover one if I want to go that way - though the one I've got is pretty unobtrusive. Pics later once my hands have thawed  Stone
  24. Mine aren't in great nick so I'd take Paul's. Might look into getting my ones galvanised instead of powder-coated, cheers for the suggestion :)
  25. Bear in mind the eBay straps are for a G60 and he says they won't fit a VR. I've got a spare OEM set but they're waiting to be blasted and powdercoated when I next need something doing, unless you can convince me otherwise...
