did you tighten then fully only when the car was back on its wheels ? if not then maybe they were under tension at rest that would put a more than normal stress on the up stroke or down stroke of the strut just me thinking out loud Rob

with the c/l motor unpluged and all the window switches unpluged put another fuse in if it blows first thing i would check is if the harrness that takes the power to the windows is split and earthing on bear metal as it goes into the door ,try the door open and closed different positions of the door may stop the short so you can get the windows up get to E38 and sort it next week Rob
-
windows and central locking on same fuse ,not in the normal place but i the fuse box above the relays in the middle try the fuse first Rob

Will early Mk3 golf gti 16v seats fit in my VR6?
carpy25 replied to Son of a Beesting's topic in Interior
mk3 front seats won't fit corrado's are based on the mk 2 floor pan and also corrado seats sit lower than golfs so unless your short  say under 5 foot 6 inches i would say they would be too high for you rears are too wide Rob -

i had this off and on over two years ,as my cars not a daily driver any more i used to disconect the battery or over a few weeks the battery would pull down , any way one day had it really bad the normal off on a few time didn't stop it worse was when i flashed the main beem the engine would cut out turned out to be a loose battery terminal not that loose really just about half a turn cleaned it up and tightened well oil light problems gone away , so clean and tighten the battery terminals first if that don't work check the other earth straps Rob

motors come up on ebay often and very common used on audi and passats around the same years ,if the motor/brushes need repairing most auto ele could do this if its the gearbox you would need a donor box from another motor so it would be easier to just replace complete one on ebay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/CORRADO-GOLF-MK3- ... dZViewItem Rob

looks like later cars are only one touch down both sides then :) but my 91 valver is one touch up on the drivers side only and on checking the owners manual thats how it should be ,would think its the control box not the relay that makes this happen this way maybe left hand drive cars work opposite so you could use two control boxes one for each side using the one touch up circuit Rob
-
drivers side is one touch up and down ,passenger side is one touch down but press and hold up ,think all years of corrado are like this (but not sure ) controled by a box behind the rear drivers side door card ,don't think you can change how it works Rob

thanks for the info as i said i,ve not connected the sended yet but with the +ve and earth connected as you have my gauge goes max as if you earth the sender ,looks like i'll have to wait for the sender to come but if the wiring right then my gauge is no good Rob
-
Help just changed my 10 bar oil pressure gauge for a white face 5 bar gauge ,still waiting for a new 5 bar sender to arrive so that wire is disconected at the engine , the problem is the old 10 bar gauge had 3 terminals on the back marked + (ign live ) - (earth) and s (sender ) the new 5 bar gauge has 3 teminals marked +(ign live ) inverted "T" (? earth) and "g" when i tested the new gauge remember the sender is not conected the needle want to max same as if you earth the sender making me think the inverted T is the sender and G is ground as i said i cant test as the sender has still not arrived can anyone confirm that + is live upsidedown T is sender and G is ground on a vdo 5 bar gauge thanks in advance Rob

20 is the dust cover should be re useable 0 bump stop i would replace replace at least 13 and 14 both lower and upper rear mounts are rubber and ware out when i changed mine a few weeks ago the top spring plate 7 on the one side was in bits so maybe those as well all the rest can be cleaned checked and are usually ok to re-use use a little grease that won't effect rubber on the faces of the mounts on fitting too stop noises and squeaking Rob
-
they look like mk3 golf ones .internal hand brake return spring and the hand brake cable going on the top instead of the bottom ,if the bleed nipple is not at the top you won't get the air out the one in the pic is for the off side was the upgrade for mk2 ones but now most people use the alloy mk 4 type with new flex hoses Rob

won't fit over 280mm front brakes with out spacers Rob

had a verbal report on monday inspector says as far as he is concerned the axle was not damaged on my car so it must have been damaged before fitting and therefore mot'ed like this the first time ,had to wait until wednesday to see out the 14 day time slot the garage had to respond to my request for my money back ,needless to say they did not reply. phoned VOSA on thursday taked to line leader he confirmed what the inspector told me on monday and said a report is comming to me soon ,so i phoned trading standards and the case has been transfered to my local department and will be responded to within 5 working days worse thing is i'm still being told don't repair the car so looks like i've won ,but not yet Rob

i read somewhere that vw were going to fit a flat front like the 1990 passat this type passat as almost all the cooling comes in the vents below the bumper but in the end they went for a grill to suit the more sporty image of he corrado Rob

h4's are dipped and main beam Rob

took the corrado for VOSA to MOT it today guess what it failed 1 nearside rear axle has damage which adversely affects braking or steering (think they mean the axles bent ) 2 nearside headlamp aim too high then a few advisorys rust nearside rear ( had this last year but my welder could not see what they were on about ,) 3 brake disks slightly scored ( 3 seperate items lack of use thats all ) front passenger seat slight movement in mountings ( must have looked hard for that one ) one rear brake pipe rust (fair enough the car is 17 years old ) one road wheel welded repair ? (whats wrong with that it was done 6 years ago ) vosa were very cagey on the phone long silences when i asked questions told me not to repair the car until a report is sent on monday , they did say not until trading standards get my money back to which i said "i want to use the car this year" on the plus side picked up the axle from oxford today looks good and only set me back £25 complete with disks and calipers ,on just went in the back of the polo Rob :)
