One button pauses the dispay as it scrolls through all the engine parameters. It can be switched to a configuration mode which allows you to modify any of the ecu configuration variables, bar actually changing the spark / fuel tables themselves.

With the short evenings now, I get even less chance to get down to the garage to do much meaningful work on the car. So I gave myself a little indoor project to do to keep me busy. Decided to mount the Megaview II kit into the old ashtray! Megaview kit, I assembled it slightly differently, so the screen could be moved off the main pcb. "Slightly" modified ashtray to house the unit and screen, compared to an orig ashtray. Unit test fitted in the centre console. I cut a clear plastic 'window' (made out of an old clear plastic Christmas tree) to fit the rectangular hole, and mounted 4 buttons to control the display and for tinkering with the engine parameters in real-time Buttons de-blinged with a few coats of primer and some black spray paint. I need to take it down to the car to hook it up to 12v and into the ECu to get it to function. But here's basically what the 'prototype' version looked like. This was with my first test cut of the plastic screen, and without the buttons mounted though. Not a great photo, but you get the idea. Should be reasonably subtle in the dash. :)

You can pick up a replacement Kr engine for very cheap these days! Clicky I'm sure there is the info on here somewhere as to how you remove the engine components. But very basically you need to: Remove: front bumper + slam panel. Take off all the engine pipework + electrical plugs etc. Remove the pas pump. Get a splined socket to remove the inner cv joint bolts. Unbolt the two engine mounts + gearbox mount, and lift the engine out with an engine hoist/crane.

Only one reason behind it!...most viewers are still in Europe, but they don't want to hold the races here anymore due to advertising restrictions. So, instead of holding the race over there during the day, and expecting most of their viewers to get up at some ungodly hour to watch it. They stick it on there during the night, so we can watch it at a normal hour over here. Having said that, I was pretty excited about it......until I heard it was under floodlights. :( :?

Otto, GSF in Dublin, or failing that, your local Dealer?

Isn't the green used on the IROC actually an original MK1 Scirocco colour though?

I've fabricated a 2.5" stainless steel downpipe from my turbo to connect back to the exhaust centre section. It's all in about six pieces at the moment and has all just been carefully marked so it can be assembled in the correct order. It all needs to be welded together though, along with the turbo flange welded to one end, a flexi section in the middle and a bung for the wideband lambda. I asked in one local fabricaion place and they weren't interested in doing the welding at all! Anyone know of anywhere decent (pref W.Lon direction) that could weld this together for me?

Wow! Looks mint! Can see why you couldn't turn that down at a good price! 8)

Dude!!! Nooooo! Cant believe it after all the work you have put in, and plans you had for it!!!   :( :(

The sensor in the bottle is just two metal 'prongs', that complete the circuit through the coolant itself. When the fluid level falls too low the circuit is broken, (as there is no coolant between the prongs) and the light starts flashing. The prongs go down to just below the 'min' line though....so even with the coolant at the min level it shouldn't be flashing. Could be a loose connection or a fault with the wire between the sensor and the dash?

Just remember that you will probably have £75-£80 quid delivery charge + the guts of £100 Vat/customs charges, when ordering something that big from the US!

Someone should really get onto that beetle forum and set them straight!.....especially as to the spelling of "Carrado"

Ditto.....very rare, and pretty cool imo! 8)

Yes, Bernie was out there with his radio controlled 'deactivate gearbox now' button :cuckoo: You forget that Bernie was the one who campaigned and bent the rules, so Hamilton + Alonso to keep their drivers points. Although...he did later admit that they should have been docked points along with the team, as it was normal procedure in those incidences.

Well in fairness, it is more that Mclaren seem to be making a complete hash of following the rules this year, than anyone picking on any one particular driver! It's not like the rule about using two different sets of tyres was just made up for this practice session! IMHO, Mclaren have been very lucky to get away as lightly as they have with what they have been up to this season!

K-jet system runs at over 6 bar, so the early valver fuel pumps run at, closer to 9 bar standard.

The Brembo 305mm disks + 4-pot callipers can be found on German Ebay for pretty good prices still! You just have to be patient and wait for them to come up!

Good to have a good collection of pics though! So you can put together a full engine build diary! 8)

It's a very good website alright! Just be careful as the numbering on the parts in the diagram doesn't always (i.e usually doesn't) match up with the VW part numbers in the list. So, part number '8' in the diagram may actually be part number '9' in the list :?

Looks good!! 8) Try buffing it with some autosol for a bit of extra shine....it's amazing stuff! -
Agreed!!! 8) (now that it is impossible for Masa to win, that is)

It can be done without removing the entire dash btw! Just need to remove the lower dash trays and you have enough space to wiggle the entire heater box out. Shouldn't take any longer than an afternoon!

I've seen/heard this a couple of times before, and each time it was due to a threaded bush that wasn't re-fitted when fitting the new suspension. Circled in red in the pic. Part number: 171412369
