    Whats this?

You can still turn the engine over with a socket on the end of the crank. You probably won't need to though.

    Rev Limiter

Nah, Gotech! They're South African, but JamSport in Northampton are the UK distributor.
  3. Either your thermostat isn't opening, your water pump has expired, or the cap on the expansion tank has failed.
  4. The cambelt tensioner is another possibility. The one on my last Mk2 GTI sounded similar.
  5. I'm still amazed that you drive in BC with no wipers. That's like driving in Calgary with no heater or air-con! The pic with the trophy is sweet.
  6. Handy for...errr...hanging your coat on.
  7. I've got an early 1.8 16v and the G60 calipers and carriers went on no problem. It's an improvement over the standard 16v brakes for sure.
  8. Tesla, eh? This is the Tesla coil my buddy built in his garage for a laugh out of, basically, stuff from a skip. This was a few years ago; it's evolved now and can arc across a ten feet gap with ease. It's quite an agressive thing to stand beside and photograph when it's on the rev limiter! Ignore the chap in the bottom left of the pic. That's his far-too-realistic-and-a-bit-spooky scarecrow.
  9. Believe it or not, I wasn't actually mocking you (this time). I was surprised when you didn't finish fitting the supercharger before as you were so close. I'd like to see the car running on the 'charger before you give up on that idea because it certainly has the potential to make good power.
  10. I'm pretty sure there's another thread devoted to re-fitting the supercharger from the last half-finished project. I think that's more likely to work.
  11. Not true. Some of the first 2.0 16vs have aspects of the early interior, such as the door cards and the heater controls.
  12. I'd say 'yes' bet we better wait for further confirmation...
  13. There's no need at all to remove the lot if you're just replacing the pump. If it all goes well it'll take half an hour, but there's a good chance it won't be that simple if the connections and screws are as rusty and knackered as mine were.
  14. What he said ^^ ?? I guess I could read the whole thread....nahhhh :)
  15. GSF sell the injector seal O-rings for about 70p each. I expect they're a similar price from VW.
  16. BCstudent - they are fitted to a 1.8 16V! They are a straight swap on the 1.8 16v - but looks as if the 1.8 fuel pipes are required for the 2.0. Be warned 2.0 owners, if you intend to use the injector pipes from a 1.8 they won't fit the 2.0 metering head perfectly. It's safe and works ok but looks a bit untidy!
  17. I assume you're talking about the main pump rather than the one in the tank. Fitting is a case of: unbolt the fuel line from the end of the pump; remove the three screws from the clamping ring; pull out the old pump; swap the non-return valve to the new pump (or buy a new one becuase they're cheap and a common point of failure); fit the strainer to the new pump; refit pump, clamping ring screws and fuel line. It's a horrible job. Expect to get covered in fuel and spend ages trying to stop the clamping ring and seal from leaking! I'd let a garage do it because it's a lot easier on a four-post lift and shouldn't take long.
  18. What have you replaced the RS with?
  19. Now there's a thought...except it rarely breaks :) Talk about tempting fate...
  20. You're not wrong. I'd give up a lot for a girl like that...probably :)
  21. No, they're completely different. The 1.8 16v uses CIS and the 2.0 16v uses CIS-E.

    Oil pressure

My oil pressure light and buzzer came on last weekend when it was really warm outside; I crapped myself. Fortunately I was on my way home and about 100 yards from my drive at the time. I fitted the oil pressure gauge I've had kicking around since I rolled the Golf it came out of and I've seen excellent oil pressure with no problems since. I'm not sure I'll ever truly understand what happened that day.
  23. It would seem to me that 'Dan' played rather more than a small part in the conversion...but that Kirsten is one heck of a gal. They've done an incredible job between them.
