  1. HIC are Herts Insurance Consultants, use a search engine to find them, well worth a call. 8)
  2. I'm paying £220 TPFT for 3000 miles a year with HIC, although it took a lot of shopping around and hagling to get that
  3. Definately try the membranes in the doors. Open the door, and get someone to pour water on the outside of the window while you carefully watch the bottom of the door on the inside, if you see any water come out from behind the bottom of the door card, you need to remove the card and seal the membrane properly, once sealed check again, water will find any possible way to get through.
  4. Price sounds about right, but I was advised not to bother with cleaning the mechanical injectors, by a specialist I apporached to have mine cleaned. I replaced mine with brand new ones from Euro car parts (GSF are similarly priced) for around £120. Took 15 mins to replace all 4 and made a noticable power improvement.
  5. You might be able to listen again to the 5.45 news on radio 1 web-site for 3rd or 4th Nov, sorry can't remember try 3rd first, they had it as a special feature with an interview from someone from the organisation chrishill mentioned. Someone I work with who owns my old Mk2 Golf has been to 3 garages to get tracking done, one said its too low to go on the ramp so can't do it, another wasn't sure if it was adjustable, but said, " if you find out it is, bring it back and we'll do it".
  6. They are terrible, with possibly one exception which is the 2CV, at least it looks like it might be a race car
  7. I've had a JL Audio 12W0 for about 4 years, and cannot fault it, these were quite reasonably priced a year or so ago too.
  8. The mods and power for mine are shown in my details below  All the work was done by myself and my dad, I've spent about £200 in all to do it! But obviously this was using alot of my time instead of someone elses. At least with a valver there is no supercharger to worry about, but you need to know what you want in the end, just a little more power - tune yours, alot more power - buy a G60/VR6. For what its worth I've driven two VRs and they were not hugeley faster than mine, they sound gorgeous though.
  9. Yep Karmann is in Osnabruck, they build Chrysler Crossfires too, they also had several Audi A4 convertables and loads of Jaguar XK8 panels.. I had a 2 hour factory tour there in July - Brilliant. Spent 1.5 days at Wolfsburg too, which is well worth doing.
  10. I'm interested in plain chrome ones depending on the price obviously 8)
  11. Yeah, sorry forgot, the only thing I've seen is a cone filter in place of the airbox, but you suck warm air from the engine bay into the engine.
  12. Thanks mate. I looked into chipping, but eventually concluded it's not worth while. From what I found out KE-Motronic as fitted to the 9A is an adaptive closed loop system, so it will re-program itself to suit the setup of the car. I have ducting running from a home made air dam behind the grill directly into the airbox which apart from the warm intake is sealed. The warm intake system still works too. Its not too hard to do this, I can take some photos if you like to help explain how its done.
  13. I went through this process, the shop I went to made me disconnect my 6x9s and just run the sub and fronts - it sounded so much better, I now have a 4 channel amp running the best component I could afford in the front from 2 of the channels and the other 2 are bridged for the sub. Definately the way to go for quality and it looks completely standard too. :)
  14. So what is the exact spec of yours now then, you can see my spec in my profile. Ive just removed the rear seats and sub box to reduce weight. Mine is pretty lively once its reving. :)
  15. Your lucky you got home. A mate was driving his Mk1 Jetta along the A12 and kept getting flashed, turned out there were flames coming from one of his rear wheels! The bearing had totally failed, melted and then the stub axle snapped! It was one hell of a mess, still he got a nice ornamant out of it (The remains of the bearing and axle).
  16. A mate had an Uno Turbo, with a re-built engine and extra boost he got 160 bhp, but it was always blowing its £100 motorsport head gaskets!
  17. I dare someone to ask him for some more info about the car
  18. Yeah, I get that all the time, why do passengers have to fiddle  In my old MK2 Golf, if the passenger seat was too far forward it got very close to the gear lever, so when you selected reverse you would wedge your hand between the seat and the gearknob. I was tempted several times to disconnect the adjustment leaver so it couldn't be moved. One of my mates is 6'4" and he can fit in the rado ok
  19. Not the best looking of cars, but imagine the fun you could have in a very fast, old Micra picking on flash beemers, boy racers in Saxos etc. That would be a proper wolf in sheeps clothing. I have a slightly similar situation in my Seat, its an early one and appart from the wheels it has the same appearence as lesser basic models. I had some fun with a Scooby a few weeks ago, I bet he was shocked when he floored it to overtake a slower car and had a Seat glued to his rear bumper.
  20. I take it the mpg figure you give is from the mfa? Check for vacuum leaks on the small hoses at the back of the engine bay, they are near the right hand side of the inlet manifold and go through the bulk head. The hoses are roughly 6mm diameter and have a grey fabric brading around them. One small split will give a faulse reading in the MFA. Your car looks cool, you don't see many white ones around.
  21. Bending the wiper arms and/or the dremmel mod is as Dinkus says a bit of a bodge. Rather than solving problem, you are modifying everything else to skirt around it. Crazymarcel made a very valid point when I spoke to him the other day at the rolling road shoot out, "They must have worked ok originally otherwise there would have been complaints from journelist etc when Corrados came out". Over time the pressure of the arms cause the spindles to tip away from there required angle causing lack of pressure, bending the arms kind of solves this and eventually the arms hit the stops which the dremmel can solve. The wiper mechanism mounting is not strong enough and fatigues, once I realised this, I removed the whole mechanism and twisted it to regain the required angle. I then straightened my bent arms and it works fine. At the weekend i'll strip it out and take pics etc to show how its done anyone is interested. In light of the above the only reason to use Lupo wipers, is to update the looks, and they do look cool. This problem also explains why some people have better results with Lupo wipers that others, due to some peoples spindles being at a worse angle than others.
  22. Prodigy - Experience Prodigy - Always outnumbered never outgunned Ministry of sound - Not sure but a new one! Robbie Williams - Sing when your winning White stripes - Elephant Charlatans - Charlatans
  23. The colour will look lovely in the summer, mine looks very dull in winter weather, but the sun picks out the colour really well.
  24. I've done the dremmel mod, 19s wiper on the drivers side and bent the arms. They work ok but the arms looked ridiculous. After closer inspection the spindles which the arms attach to were not at 90 degrees to the screen, the problem lies in the mounting of the wiper mechanism. It is quite week, and after some careful tweeking of the pressed steel chassis and re-fitting the spindles are now perpendicular to the screen, which appiles more pressure. They work fine now with nice straight arms and standard blades. My only complaint really is that they are a little slow, but VW have always been stingy using underpowered/slow wiper motors. £0 for that if you use your current arms and blades, what are you waiting for
  25. My mate has a Cupra 150, serious torque, more pulll than my 20vt, but with a small power band. Very strange when you overtake and have to change up at 4000 rpm especialy after a 16v Corrado. He gets around 49mpg though, to be honest I would chose it over the petrol, which does about 28 mpg. :)
