Difficult, but at least you have decided early, rather than after throwing loads of cash at it. My 16V isn't too bad though, but I've worked hard for it.

I would have thought the tolerence would be the same as a 1.8 16v KR in a Mk2 Golf 16v. The manual covers them I believe. However I have a copy of the Passat manual which covers the 9A! I will do some research and let you know what I find. I would have thought you could get away with it being distorted by 5 thou though. Hopefully they will sort it for you without any hassle.

Where to get my Head Flowed??????? Help Please?
corradophil replied to rado-steve's topic in Engine Bay
Flusted, what did you use to polish the inside of the manifold? Mine is all finished in 120 Grit at the moment, this was the finest small flapwheel I could obtain. -
Always good to see a jap car getting whooped 8)

Are you sure its the rev counter - its electronic, so suprised it can make a noise at all. Are you sure your engines not pinking at around 3000rpm under high load? This could be described as a funny tinkling noise. If it is, the noise should go when you let off the throttle.

I've tried both, and currently have the cat fitted, if that helps.

Maybe your pockets are deep enough, but your arms are too short   Definately worth making sure its set up correctly, in standard form its not a slow car. -

Absolutely, you may end up with a higher peak BHP figure at say 6500RPM, but at the cost of low revs tractability, great on a race track, not necessarily great for everyday driving. If you want a more powerfull road car, what about a 9A or 6A 2.0 16v bottom end. 9A is VW, fitted to Passats and Corrado's, mine has this. 6A is the Audi version. Or consider upgrading to a VR6 or G60, but if like you want to keep your car, then I'd go for a 2.0. Where is Sunny Darlo?? If your near Essex, maybe we could meet, then you could see how mine goes, to decide if its worth doing. -

Flusted. Does this mean you will be getting more than 162 BHP soon?? We seem to have very similar spec cars. I did my head myself in the summer. I read a book before doing it, which helped me decide how far to go with it. Can't remember what it was called, but if anyone wants to know I'll find out. Also I found some very usefull cross section pics on vortex, which showed where the water ways are. Think of the engine as a pump, basically you are trying to increase its capability to flow gas through it, by increasing the size of ports and smoothing the path the gas must follow. From this, you would think, biggest is best, but you need to keep the gas flowing at a high speed to keep the power up. At low revs the gas flows slower, therefore ideally you need small ports at low revs, then big ports at high revs otherwise torque at low revs will suffer. It is a complicated process to get right, and unless you can vary the port sizes, it is a compromise. The 16v suffers from flatness at low revs, so you don't want to open the ports out very much on a road car. Hope that makes a little more sense. -
Clean the rusty areas up with a wire brush, then spray the areas with stone chip protection paint. Don't use underseal, which is like tar, because it is known to lift from the body allowing moisture to become trapped against the metal surface. Following these localised repairs, clean the rest of the underside as much as possible and then cover it in waxoil. Try to avoid the exhaust and brakes though. I am supprised its rusty, VW took a lot of care to seal them. Good luck, you will get very dirty, and as Henny said, buy a pump rather than aerosol if you going to do a large area.
-
You can buy it at Halfords in Aerosol or with a pump which screws into a 1 or 2 litre tin. I wouldn't reccomend painting it on. Far better to spray it. Its a Very messy job.

am i doing the right thing selling my vr6
corradophil replied to jedi-knight83's topic in General Car Chat
I'd stick with the Corrado, I know my cars are different spec, than these, but I the Leon is similar to an S3 i.e. A3/Golf floorpan, 1.8 20vt, A3 dashboard etc. I am seriously thinking about selling the Leon and using my C full time again after 2 months of having the choice of using either. As AndyVR6 says the novelty will wear off. Do you have a favourite bit of road you love to drive quickly on? If you do, I bet by the end of it in the C you have a big cheesy grin, and I bet in an S3 you would arrive the other end sooner having gone faster, thinking "thats impressive", but no cheesy grin. Just my thoughts after being in a similar situation and being lucky enough to try a newer car without selling the Corrado. -
Class C  , I used to work in a body shop, and repaired class D cars which were far worse than yours. If its that bad in their opinion, sureley they won't want much for the salvage, maybe you can get it back at scrap value and get it sorted yourself? My mate had someone run into the back of his mint condition Vento, not very hard - the boot still opens and closes, all lights, number plate etc are untouched, rear quarters are fine, but they wrote it off :x Good luck, I'm sure you can find a way to resurect J-Dub.

When I was playing with my engine earlier in the year, TSR tried to convince me to do a 20vt conversion, they reckoned around £4000 to supply and fit IIRC. I'd rather keep the G60, and it's originality personally, unless you are planning some major upgrades i.e. 250BHP plus, then a 20vt could be the way to go.
-
Good luck mrbeige, I had to reshape the bends on my magnex to stop it knocking.
-
I look forward to reading your thoughts on it 8)
-
So, how were they. do you still want one?
-
The difference is not as huge on the road as you would think, Ive been in a Leon Cupra R 225 - lovely car, puts mine to shame 8) Exactly, I have more confidence in the Leon, which by the way leans alot more due to it being totally standard, although I'm wary of the traction control, it cut in mid bend, killing all power making the rear end very unstable. When driving quickly on bendy roads I switch it off now, its too unpredictable in it's operation. Sounds like your mind is made up Jedi-Knight, if you can afford it go for it, apart from my comments of it being less involving, I have to say they are very nice cars and I'd love one, but you probably will miss the Corrado.
-
Can't afford an S3, but have a Seat Leon Cupra, 1.8T (180 BHP) Audi A3 dash, it goes well, quieter, more refined and dare I say it, bettere handling than the C, but apart from putting the windows down to listen to the turbo when you floor it, it just cannot match the C for fun. It is just a machine which gets me around, whereas the C almost feels alive when you drive it. The Leon averages 28 MPG driving in normal conditions. I'm considering selling the Leon and using my C evey day again.

You could try some silicon trim cleaner which would be kinder to the rubber seal, mine does it too, although it doesn't worry me too much.
-
Mine has a flat rear seat too. I think it all 2.0 16v Corrados had this, plus maybe 8v too. Do a search, there is a thread on here wihich shows the trim differences over the years. Coullstar, how do you find the 2.0 compared to the 1.8? Looks very good in Silver. 8)

Banana Man, I would like one clear Corrado shell please 8)

Green 16v Corrado, (K reg I think) on Baddow Road, Chelmsford at around 11.30AM on Friday 12 Nov. I was in a Silver Mk4 Golf, so would not have been seem.

It should be smooth in its power delivery, mine is, I'm running a standard throttle body. Is that the Australian version of going like a rabbit? I would definately go for checking everything is set up correctly, check the positioning and operation of the idle switch on the throttle body, if the switch operates too far away from idle the ecu runs an idle setting on part throttle, then jumps to the part throttle setting, giving kangaroo symptoms in traffic jam situations.
