    Compression test.

    Would agree with Andy, got my compression tester for 12 quid or so, did all my 3 cars with it, and Jim's ex G60, as well. I also once did a mate's VR6 Rado, after he'd been told by his garage, that they would charge him 80 Euros to do a compression check :shock: Tempest
  2. All original set-up, running at 188 to 204° F (yes, mine's a US Rado) when doing 70-80 mph. Tempest

Yes, I do read it occasionally, especially when I've had a frustrating bit of work on my Rado again, like today: Started of in the few warm(ish) sunshine hours this time of year still has to offer with re-bleeding the clutch cylinders, aiming the right headlight, washing the Rado, and then tackling the task of changing the fuel oump on my G60, which turned out to be right nightmare, but see for yourself in the Engine Bay forum. As soon as the sun had gone, the job wasn't finished yet, so frost started to settle in, oohhh nice, nothing nicer than to stick both hands in a full fuel tank of icecold fuel :lol: NOT! Tempest
  4. Thanks folks, got the pump in in the end :-). Bentley is wrong in stating the float should not face towards the front, whilst failing to mention where it should face to (i.e. indeed to the right when standing in front of boot), and I seem to remember that the float was actually facing to the back when I took the old unit out, which is what I tried to simulate with the new one, but without luck. Having no daylight rather than a neon-tube and a torch that's run out of batteries, all in the freezing cold with a fullt ank (icecold fuel is no fun to dip your hands into) did not make things any easier, as I couldn't really see the one out of the 4 bayonett locking tongues that is larger than the others. :lol: Bring back summer!! Well, the Rado fired up, and is currently idling. Not going to take her out tonight, as the roads here are full of the corrosion-promoting stuff, i.e. gritsalt, again, and I have just washed her this afternoon after yesterday's short trip around Coventry had already resulted in loads of black salty deposits on both front and rear. I just hope that will cure my cold starting problems ... Tempest

  6. Help needed asap please: After having managed to get the old single-in-tank (new G60 Rado) fuel pump unit out, I now wanted to fit the new one. But as the unit needs locking by means of this horrible bayonet ring at the bottom of the tank, which you can't see when you're trying to lock the pump unit (obstructs view), how the heck do you lock the pump? I just can't get it done!!! What am I doing wrong? The old pump was a brown one, the new one is a white one. Have tried to, as an exercise, fit the old one again, but that one I can't get to lock either. I am stupid, I know, best if someone in the neighbourhood could have a go for me, as I'm about to give up. Give me a Rocco, pleeeaaassee, as that is way easier to do. I'm about to cry in anger :cry: Any help appreciated!! Tempest
  7. I some time ago was given a ECU-loom from a G60 for free by someone who just had no use for it. The loom is even brandnew :shock: As for reasonable price: Have a quick look on ebay, what they tend to go for. They're around the 250 Euro-mark (old G60 model, 350 Euro new G60 model), when bought new from VW. Tempest

My US-G60 Rado is on classic car with HIC (15 years old), paying a rather hefty 500 quid though, fully comp., incl. agreed value, but that's in Coventry :roll: It does have a few mods, but that doesn't cause too much headaches with HIC, as both my Roccos are on classic car with HIC, too, both are quite modded, especially the Mk1 :lol: Tempest

My Rado tends to get washed every 2 weeks or so, but hardly ever driven, certainly not daily ;-) It still gets dirty because of it being parked on my rear alley, where some b*stard new-Focus driver is of the opinion that driving over the mudpath with lots of puddles in something like 3rd gear is cool. My Rado after one night then looks all off-roady again, but only on 1 side :lol: Drives me mad though :mad: Tempest
  11. Took me about 3 hours (divided over several days) changing all 3 belts (cam, drive and polyribbed) and the cambelt tensioner on my G60 at a very very casual pace :lol: So, someone who does this for a living should be able to do that in less than 2 hours, I reckon. Tempest
  12. The G60 also uses fuel maps in the ECU rather than entirely relying on the dizzy setting. The igintion point is advanced and retarded by the ECU based on a base-setting of 6° BTDC and the knock-sensor signals. The older 8V (DX, JH) without an ECU and knock sensors did, however, require resetting the dizzy. Tempest

  15. Live with ignition on: Terminal 15 on the ignition coil springs to mind, fairly close to where you need it, too. Tempest

Remember they also renamed the originally intended Mk3 Rocco to Corrado :-) It's almost clear that Karmann won't be building it though, probably produced in some cheap labour country, hence in my book it's not a real Rocco or Rado.   19. FPR=Fuel Pressure Regulator, makes sure there is enough pressure on the fuel rail for the injectors to produce a nice spray pattern, when activated. When not activated (electrically), then makes sure, fuel is returned to the tank. Input signal from vacuum from intake manifold. Fuel filte is like a coke can, sits close to right rear wheel underneath the car. 1991 G60 should already have the single in-tank pump and no 2nd pump next to the fuel filter underneath the car. As far as your smelling petrol on coldstart is concerned: Had the same on my G60, replaced the 3 fuel hoses inside the engine bay, and gone was the smell. Leaking fuel lines inside the engine bay (rubber expanding/contracting with temperature changes, clamps not being able to cope with this lets fuel get past and onto a warming up to hot manifold - not good) can lead to what's described and shown in this thread http://the-corrado.net/.archive/forum/viewtopic.php?t=24695 Tempest

Got my braided fule hoses from Demon Tweeks, they can withstand up to 10 bar, if memory serves me correctly. 2 hoses attach to the fuel lines on your right hand side strut tower (facing in driving direction), the black one of which goes to your fuel rail, blue one comes from the bottom conector on the FPR. The third hose is located at the other end of the engine block, between the end of the fuel rail and the fuel pressure switch (which is attached to the front of the TB via a screw). Tempest

Piccies here: http://forum.rowi.net/read.php?f=10&i=7322&t=6723 You'll notice that as you work your way through the sequence of piccies the night progressed, the alcohol started to take its toll :lol: Rocco and rado drivers started to feel the load of alcohol, women, mandarin throwing etc. Look at the very last pictures of that pub, once everyone had left :lol: That's how the Germans celebrate St Nicholas on the 6th December :-) Sod it, for 29p plus airport tax, coach costs to Stansted and free collection from the airport on the other side, it's a steal.   24. Assuming you've already fitted the smaller polyribbed belt (to get the car up and rtunning without the Lader, 90 bhp monster now :lol:) then there's not a lot you can do to replace that extra power that the G-Lader gave you. Classic engine tuning methods are still valid (porting and polishing head, faster cam etc.), but some of these may require a new chip as well, to make the ECU aware of the mods. Tempest
