Is your Corrado the most unreliable car you've ever owned?

As the title suggests, is your Corrado the most unreliable car you've ever owned?

 

Its a thought that at the moment keeps cropping up, as the constant battle of solving one problem and then another taking its place is becoming a serious grind and drain on my finances.

 

Obviously at the moment there is no way I could sell it and even get back what I've spent on repair costs this year, so thats not really an option but at what point do you say enough is enough? :(

No way, mine has hardly missed a beat, and i've driven it on long distances over here. The only real 'problem' i've had is a hall sender giving up, then the coil.

Driving to a customers site today in the works Ford Mundain when a loud clonking noise developed at the back. It's an 04 plate with just of 66k on the clock and the original rear silencer has just dropped off. The rear boot lock doesn't work and hasn't done for about 12 months. The auto wipers have never work properly. It's a git to engage reverse when cold and sometimes slips into reverse when you want first resulting in unexpected reverse gear action. The engine sounds like the bottom end is about to fall out. But apart from that it's great. Wonder what it'll be like with 150k on the clock and 15 years under it's belt................

 

The Corrado is no worse than any other motor IMHO, certainly they are better made than most.

ha ha

i once owned a fiat strada 130tc this is one serious unreliable motor i owned for 4 years

it may have been a bake bean tin with an engine but i learnt lots of mechanical welding electrical skills from it

and when it was not off the road its was a very quick car !!

Worst car I ever had, for reliability, was a Pug 205 1.9 GTi. Not a week seemed to go by when it didn't self destruct just a little bit all on its own.

 

Although not the most reliable car I've ever had the Corrado is definitely a close 2nd best. Did 1200 miles to the Nurburgring and back in september, including 4 laps of the ring and just done a track day at snetterton, is my daily driver and has never let me down.

 

If you're interested, the most reliable car I've ever had was a 1967 1200 Beetle which I restored from the floorpans upwards. That thing ran no matter what you tried to put it through. Even when I got shunted in the rear by a drunk driver which pushed the crankshaft backwards in the engine it still started and ran, although it didn't sound as good anymore! :lol:

My Corrado is definatley the most special car i have owned, so i have been paying more attention to its state of tune and as a result i spend more money on keeping it running sweetly.

It has done over 120,000 miles and is coming up to 14 years old so i have to expect a few things need replacing now and again.

 

At the moment i can't think of anything i want to replace it with except for an E36 M3 but you see them or 'reps' all over the place, plus i don't like the BMW owner stereotype.

 

 

I love my Corrado :D

Get yourself a 10 year old Mercedes you'll soon find your "enough is enough" point! I did in 6 months and about three grand! :censored:

The reality is that most folks on here are driving a car that is at least 12 years old, many cars at this stage have been weighed in and are now recycled back into some steel product or other. It is a fact that most people find us Corrado owners bonkers to be driving our Corrado's daily (I don't as have a company car, but if I didn't I would be in a rado). At that age things go wrong, it happens on all VW's, I once had the AA out 3 times in 2 weeks to a Mk2 Gti. However, my G60 Corrado I ran for a year as a daily, it failed me once and that was the battery failing (which can happen on any car). The key is to take extra care on maintenance, replace stuff even if you don't have to, that is the only way to try and guarantee reliabilty on an old car.

:lol: My old mk1 fiesta and nova were both a hell of a lot more reliable! Even my mk5 escort van which i threw a 3i lump into :lol:

Mine was fine until I got to 90k, since then it has slowly been trying to self destruct......

Havent had nothing wrong for 6 years,

just the usual serviceing,a bulb on the dash and ignition amp when we got it

 

:D

 

Glad I bought a low mile valver when I wanted a Vr6 as you do :dorky: 8) :D :wink: :cheers: :grin:

Hell yes, but I have funily enough enjoyed the ownership...be it a love hate relationship...sumtimes i love it and then i hate it.

 

crank bolt snapped - Rebuilt engine, higher spec with new almost everything

Fuel pump packed up - new fuel pump

G-lader exploded - new ported charger

 

now i have a serious oil leak from the sump which is catching the cambelt and spraying everywhere, i have no more exhaust baffles (shite wolfrace-longlife baffles) so new exhaust....and my windows randomly stop working and then fix themself...:S

 

 

but hell yeh it do still love it, and everytime sumin goes wrong, an improvment happens!...im going to sort the suspension with new bushes etc and rebuilt calipers before that has a chance to break, lol

The various rados i've had have all (bar one maybe) been completely reliable. We're talking about 15 year old 'sports coupe's' here remember, a lot of these cars have had a tough life and are still around waaaay after the vast majority of other cars their age are.

 

I've also always believed in prevention rather than cure, and that staying one step ahead of the game is the way to go - keeping the car maintained and looked after properly will mean that the car looks after you, replacing parts that are on their way out rather than waiting for them to go etc will mean that you dont get let down, also using quality parts rather than cheap ones makes a huge difference. Making sure you get a 'goodun' to begin with is half the battle! taking time to find a car that's been looked after by its previous owner/s can save a lot of headache in the long term. After a while of driving a car you can start to get a feel for how it should run and can then identify when parts are due for replacement a bit more easily :camp:

 

You see loads of people complaining about how unreliable 'Corrados' are when in fact they've just bought a high mileage dog for £1k and are now tarring all rados with the same brush! :roll:
