Centurion 6.5/10

Not bad for a lowish budget English film, very bloody and violent but a bit predictable.

Had the same experience with the film. It's awesome right up until the whole white room / monolith / baby floating in space thing goes on... not sure WTF Kubrick was smoking when he made that!

For those that enjoyed the HAL / spaceship parts of 2001 though, I highly recommend the film Moon. Didn't get a large release or a lot of fanfare but it's clearly inspired by 2001 and it's really enjoyable!

watched L'illusionniste yesterday at my local independent.

and im giving it a 9/10.

Inspired direction and artistic input by Sylvain Chomet, the chap who made and directed "Belleville Rendez-Vous" showing the unhappy end of Music Hall in the UK. Brilliant!

Scott Pilgrim against the world - 4/10 :gag:

Damn, really? I've read the comic, so perhaps knew what to expect - really enjoyed the adaptation, so would give it 8.5 :dorky:

Expendables 6/10. Could have delivered much more.

Ok...

Explosions? Check. Gunfights? Check. Fisticuffs? Check. Car chase? Check. No crappy love scenes? Check. Humour and funny one-liners? Check.

I give up, how could it have delivered more?

Free beer?

Taken - 8/10

Simple idea, 17 year old girl, divorced parents, mother now married to rich guy, father (Liam Neeson) is ex CIA or Special Forces. Daughter goes to Paris with a friend and is "Taken" in a sex trafficking kidnap.

It's well done without being daft and as a parent it certainly struck the right notes.

With you on Taken, probably 9/10 and that is purely for the nails-in-legs-electrocution-interrogation-technique. Classic.

I just found it all to be more style than substance, and not very good style at that, with that line-up it should have been an awesome film. But you don't really find out why they are the Expendables, nor feel any particular connection with any of the characters. I had real trouble actually understanding Sly and his chats with Statham felt tacked on. The only good character was Rourke's and he was just a bit player. The fights were quite poor, too much camera movement and cutting meant they weren't involving enough. And as for humour, I think I only laughed once in the whole film. I expected a lot from this film and was disappointed, imo The A-Team was much more enjoyable.

So there :p
