timmaaah 0 Posted March 17, 2017 Nice to see things are progressing for you matey - these things are a pita. I've just got mine back on the road after an 18 month break - picked her up from the MOT test place after doing a load of brake work and emission stuff and she sailed through with no advisories. Drives beautifully, yadda yadaa, get home, plip the plipper and the central locking decides to crap out on me lol! The very best of luck with your restoration :)

Geeba 0 Posted March 20, 2017 Top stuff! - are the ones in the old posts missing now as well? picture of the clocks? - its really odd, they still show up to me.
delfinis38 1 Posted March 20, 2017 Nothing on clocks and powder coating. But the post earlier shows door handle... Was the powder coating expensive.. thinking of getting bonnet strut done on mine. Guess the powder coating had cracked with the weight of the bonnet over the years... might have to drop in to the guy in bishop stone.
Geeba 0 Posted March 20, 2017 It wasn't too bad, for the four parts of the seatbelt rail and the front rad cross-member blasted and coated was £50, I thought that was pretty reasonable.
Geeba 0 Posted March 20, 2017 Just for information, people with broken lifters, this solution does work.... This was a test run on a snapped part.. Centre punch (carefully) the centre of the snapped part and then pilot drill a hole, move to a larger drill to accommodate your tap, very carefully again tap a suitable thread in the monkey metal part. I did this without stripping the sunroof down on the actual one I used, but if you have access to a pillar drill and stripped it down it would probably be easier.. I then ground the screw head down leaving barely a millimetre of metal to hold the lifter in place, you could drill the thread of the screw and insert a small pin or spigot to fully replicate the original, but I just left a small amount of metal to hold the lifter on, then dabbed a bit of silver paint on it, you would never notice it unless you were seriously looking for it. Remember the lifter without the spigot will fall too low and foul on the frame of the sunroof so ensure you re-fit the trim ASAP! or watch very carefully when you are sliding it back or it will jam and snap it! Geeba 0 Posted March 27, 2017 Leave alone? or clean and polish it? The factory wax in the door shuts... not sure what to do... I like my cars to be as VW intended maybe with a bit of plus added... whenever I've looked at buying dubs in the past the factory wax was always a good indication that it hadn't been scraped up and lashed back together... I was just looking at firing up the jet washer and cleaning the door shuts before I put the interior back in... the wax is pretty dirty... but original factory wax. Other than the fact it stood for years, its a 2 owner, straight, factory stock car.... Whats peoples thoughts?
delfinis38 1 Posted March 27, 2017 Still got my wax on, bit grubby in places. Personally like to see it...

Geeba 0 Posted March 28, 2017 Enjoyed reading this thread and sitting on the fence awaiting further updates. Was especially nice to see you fixed the sunroof. Hi Stuart, Yep the sunroof adventure is over, thanks again for your help on that, greatly appreciated - it's not something I would want to do again but if anyone is really stuck I'd be more than happy to roll my sleeves up and lend a hand, funnily enough I was just about to go and fit the headlining ;) - all the new sound deadening and the cleaned carpet went back in yesterday, starting to look like a car again. Geeba 0 Posted April 24, 2017 Been a bit quiet on the Corrado lately, I'm mid-treehouse build for my sons, so been putting some time in on that, but I've sneaked a few hours here and there and the car now has 99% of it's interior back in and I must say it looks really good, very pleased with it. I thought today I would take a look at the spare gearbox that came with the car, it appears to be an 01M which although from a VR6 type VW car (VR6 Golf/Jetta III, Passat '95 onwards) its a later box than the 096 which will undoutably be in the Corrado, the ratios are the same but is this a no-go situation? Any auto owners out there that have swapped a box out? - I'm cool with manuals but I dont really have a clue on autos... I do have a sneaky feeling that unless the Gearbox ECU sees the correct gearbox it just wont work... I'm kinda worrid as the quote I had to repair the 096 was £1500 :( - is it manual conversion time? Dox 23 Posted April 24, 2017 What's up with the auto? Have you tried checking fluid level or changing the fluid itself? I'd personally convert to manual as the car will be worth more and easier to sell with a manual box. I once did a banger rally in a merc E class, no kick down for almost 3000 miles then on the way back from Rome the bloody thing decided to work! Hi Dox, I bought it with a busted box.... the previous owner said it had been water damaged by the heat exchanger leaking, but I've just drained it and was expecting to see a 'mayo' type contamination in the oil... but other than it being a bit dirty there doesnt appear to be water in it, when you start the car and put it in gear there is no drive at all, so I'm thinking the valve body is completely shot. Yeah I'm starting to come round to the manual idea again... I hate to destroy another one of the less than 40 autos left, but this thing is going to run a bill way bigger than a manual conversion would ever cost.... could be time to speak to Lilfuzzer again! ;)
