ChrisL 18 Posted January 6, 2018 That's rather lovely chris.... you decided on a colour yet ? Keep the updates coming please... would love a mk1 one of these days. Cheers! Yes it's going to be VW carbon steel grey metallic. 16" BBS RS's and I have an Audi A3 1.8 20vt donor car coming at the end of the month. You should get one. robrado974 1 Posted January 6, 2018 That looks lovely chris . I wish I had gone through the ranks of VW , and ended up at the Corrado. People say to me now , you would miss the power if you bought a MK 1 . I know it’s not all about that , I love the retro look of the MK1 inside and out . Cressa 44 Posted January 6, 2018 That mk1 looks great. Reminds me of strippng mine I had 20 years ago. Getting the gaps right was a pain, as well as replacing the rear arches and a plate for the clutch bulkead grommet. Oh why oh why am I doing it again with a corrado !! Oh well. Good luck with the progress. Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk

Hopefully the 200bhp 20vt engine should sort the lack of power from the mk1. I was planning on going standard but I really want to build this to my idea of the perfect mk1. Cressa 44 Posted January 6, 2018 That's what mine was called, back in 96. Great fun cars Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk
delfinis38 1 Posted January 6, 2018 Carbon steel is an awesome colour on the newer golfs... ooh that engine should be fun.
lilfuzzer 1 Posted January 7, 2018 Good work Chris glad progress is going well. I must admit although the mk1 wasn't that quick with standard engine. The sensation of speed if there so it will feel quick certainly with 20v in. My old one had 16v in it and done quarters in 14s so 200 bhp should knock your socks off. Always want another one but never will I imagine. Sent from my SM-G357FZ using Tapatalk
GrahamU 6 Posted January 7, 2018 Nice work. We put a 20v in a mk1 a few years back and they are good fun
ChrisL 18 Posted January 7, 2018 Some more updates. With the shell in high build, I turned my attentions to the engine bay and floors. To allow me to run the car low, I need to make some room for the drive shafts. And finished with some additional stiffening Then decided to take off all the stone chip stuff applied by the previous owner I knew the sections under the floor were dented due to poor jacking and was going to leave them but with all this work it seems a shame not to sort them And a small hole found in the sill / cill (however its spelt) More to follow Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
delfinis38 1 Posted January 8, 2018 (edited) Some nice welding chris. Thought this project would be a labour of love. Edited January 8, 2018 by delfinis38
seanl82 23 Posted January 8, 2018 Great stuff Chris. Looking like it'll be an absolute cracker when finished. Kudos to you for all the work done by your own hand so far! :thumbleft:
fla 9 Posted January 8, 2018 it'll be pretty much as new - seeing your previous levels of fastidiousness, this is certainly maintaining the same standard. Credit to you sir!
ChrisL 18 Posted January 14, 2018 Bought this from a friend yesterday, a new heart for the mk1 It’s currently a 150bhp with the K03s turbo so should map up to 220bhp. I reckon that should be plenty.... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
dazzx10r 10 Posted January 15, 2018 Lovely work, I'd like a mk1 Golf myself and had every intention of getting one before the Corrado. It would be nice to see all of the photo's from the start of the thread if you have time to re-upload them?

ChrisL 18 Posted January 15, 2018 (edited) Cheers, if it makes you feel better, I didn’t do the welding, my mate from work did it. More updates, I’m going for a smooth engine bay with all wiring hidden. I think someone must have used a Tommy gun on this area All welded Header tank, washer bottle and battery tray gone Unused holes in slam panel welded Bit of smoothing Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Edited January 15, 2018 by ChrisL

mooG60 11 Posted January 19, 2018 Look forward to seeing this on the road... MK1's where my first love and introduction to the world of VW. I have the front Hella twin grill, front and rear lip spoilers and a set of Boge lowered gas shocks. They are tasteful mods that just help to make the car look a little more aggressive without turning it into a boy racer machine. Good luck with the restoration. If the parts are of any use give me a shout.
