Congratulations on the purchase - saw this car and went for a good price considering the work carried out and the recaro seats and alloys. Aftermarket Slimline fans - Shaun is the man for them on here- sounds to me likely to be set up wrong in the first place- if you search cooling guide on here its very informative - you can test by bridging all 3 speed settings. The fan control unit is a common failure point as well due to age . Basics first are to bridge the fan switch sensor (one in radiator) plug for settings 1 ignition off- setting 2 bridge same plug but different pins ignition on - settings 3 bridge the the black coolant sensor plug ignition on that is in a row next to the other 2 coolant sensors .

This German firm has many of the cloth patterns in stock and always adding to their stock. https://nadel-werk.de/shop/bezugstoffe/vw
-
In all honesty - I would of purchased them if I was looking for a set - can get the bolster and the material from the mk2 - my trimmer would of done that for £200.00 . I have seen just the front seats sell for 2 k as the Mk2 owners love them as well - very sort after- even though they may sit a little lower. These are my favourite ever though from the rallye- on the none recaro with cloth says rallye but on the recaro says recaro . https://www.ebay-kleinanzeigen.de/s-anzeige/vw-golf-2-rallye-recaro-sitze/1861840282-223-3811

Hi I recommend this seller for genuine vag bolts. I saved 60 percent off the front subframe bolts from Heritage prices and postage was free - also answered the phone straight away and felt like I was speaking to a human not a computer says no. I felt compelled to use someone different then heritage as they keep sending me the incorrect parts and also are now charging £8 to deliver 6 subframe bolts - they lost my business. Established UK seller that also mentioned can bring over classic parts from Germany. https://www.deutsche-parts.co.uk/ 4 cylinder
-
Thanks mate - I can see they are described as a subframe bolt so have no concern of the swl on the bolt- for £6.00 for x 6 I might as well buy them and share the out come.

Hi all, On the rear beam carriers no 17 on diagram a total of 6 bolts all together part number N10141701 M10 x 25 have been obsolete fro some time. This is also the bolt that holds the front cross member - - furthest bolts to sides on the crisis member across from the bumper bracket bolts . https://www.ilcats.ru/vw/?function=getParts&market=RDW&model=COR&modelcode=76&year=1995&group=5&subgroup=500&part=106000&language=en I was wondering this vag and Porsche bolt ready available at £1.20 from Porsche has the same dimension but a different end (does not have the point ) does it matter as I would like some new bolts if the frames are coming off and I can get all the rest. N90847602 M10 x 25 Thanks gold is the obsolete bolt and silver the one available .

Congratulations on your new purchase.

You know where these are from - the seaside rot car that mk2 spares purchased off ebay - had the rot in between the a pillar corner and wing . He tried selling the car as project for 4 k - bad purchase for even a breaker over paid- you could use ultra violet interior cloth form a mk2 I imagine as the cloth was used on standard seats in a late GTI.
-
It will sell for he asking price IMO - I would rather get a set in mint to be honest or buy a car that has them all ready .
-
That will be like my passenger seat If I ever let Hudson come to a car show with me, Yorkshires finest from the Aire Valley King Terrier Airedale. Been from Yorkshire though he does make a good brew,

Do some scaffs at GKN Driveline in Brum they make all the shafts there for JLR and many others- quality company = a shame they are shutting the factory down by one of these disgraceful asset striping company Melrose they are called- been doing jobs there foe a decade and will loose work myself. Moving to Eastern Europe. No dealt quality will go down alike to Ford when moved to Turkey- my 72 k transit with full service dropped its bottom end on Tuesday on the M5 - looking at Isuzu have no confidence in Ford anymore dont give them money Ive had 8 but no longer willing to by chocolate blocks.

So I’m starting this thread to try snd help members not get ripped by VW - post any findings . I will start it off . obsolete pedal rubbers that were £12 each from vag I think - these are much better quality then aftermarket - worn ones can lead to mot failure to . Porsche 944 used them and still available from Porsche dealers at under £2 . you can see the vag stamp . There was 350 in stock - a few less now as they use them on the Mk2 as well so I purchase quite a few with three cars that use them - brake and clutch same rubber.

The part number for the Mk3 one is the superseded number for corrado on etka now . 1H2819031B https://www.ilcats.ru/vw/?function=getParts&market=RDW&model=GO&modelcode=184&year=1997&group=8&subgroup=819&part=819050&language=en Here is the latest one from vag still been made by valeo. 2017 manufactured. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/283963550055?hash=item421d8be967:g:y5AAAOSwYMFfIrWn Hey I might ring up skoda tomorrow for the craic and see how much they charge for the oe one.

The best three brands available I would opt for would be in no order. Mahle ( new owners of Hella Refrigeration) Nissesns NRF I would also consider the Febi one but most likely is a re branded one. ( hopefully not a topran) Annoyingly the LHD matrix is a different part number and you can buy the Valeo for £24.00 from autodoc. As mentioned the RHD has vanished from stock . There are x3 RHD oe valeo vag ones left in Germany as I just phoned the dealer to investigate part number 1H2819031B - but wait for it £256.00 for one . They like to load the premium VW hey. My maths tells me that is a 5 times increase from manufacturer that pretty normal for VW Im afraid - quite an unpleasant company these days and certainly not the peoples car anymore. Im hopeful Valeo might remake them as there are 30 cars in the vag range that have the same part number all the big four brands take them.
-
These are obsolete now or there is none in stock anywhere. I think NRF would be my next choice over Hella (now Mahle) . I got a Valeo one delivered today off an ebay seller but I believe it be fake so sent it back as had no stamps on the casings .and looked nothing like the pictures above. The box had been opened up before as well . In picture just one seal .

O remember my sister putting £3 in her mini in the eighties and lasted a while ha. I noticed some coolant has ethanol to.
-
I have the protective strip decision to make as I collect my car from paint this week - I will be putting some ABT rep side skirts on so in in all likelihood will leave them off. On my VR that is black I left them off as they always look crap on an a black car.
-
Aldi one never had any issues - it has reverse polarity protection thats the only essential thing I was looking for to protect the car from me !.
-
As you say there is a lot of joy in bringing something back to its dawning glory and will be a lifetime of enjoyment in that car as it ages like a mature bottle of fine wine.
-
Im not sure which way up or down and Im out but seen a fair few mk2 gti have 40 k restoration jobs now. Its the reality of classic car restoration I suppose. .
-
Estimate is finished chap/ I mean it makes sense to rebuild a car from top to bottom it costs the same as the car new with inflation
-
This is probably th most comprehensive restoration I have seen - I imagine the drive train will follow. Must be a 30 to 40 k rebuild im guessing.
-
Its a very easy job the old rubber just falls out and scrape the rest out with a table knife. Clean then buy this stuff. Sides https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/124846639292 Base. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/223121203620?var=521935260520
