  1. I can't help thinking that if you throw a TT into a bend at 125mph +, you're asking for trouble anyway! This is why the recall was voluntary I think as it doesn't occur within the speed limits. The Autobahn does have speed limits now but there are still a few sections of it unrestricted. Kev
  2. How are you getting on with the noise? I traced mine and it was just the belt, so sprayed it with some silicon maintanence spray and it's quiet now. The only noise I've got now is some tapping from a couple of lazy lifters. It's just one thing after the next with these cars!! Kev
  3. I think 17" Borbet Cs are the ultimate rim for Corrados. They suit it perfectly. Kev 94 VR6
  4. Can you use a MK4 key then? Is it like the TT key? I thought they have a transponder chip in them? Cheers Kev
  5. Only saw 1 Corrado in London yesterday, and it wasn't even a UK one. It was a really shabby G60, dented and rusty. These cars are seriously rare. In all I've seen about 7 other Corrados in the Midlands and South East since owning mine and I still haven't seen another Ice Grey one yet  Kev 94 VR6
  6. No you just need both halves of the 50mm manifold. You would be wise to replace all 4 brass injector seats & seals, the 4 plastic guide tubes and all 8 injector seals whilst the manifold is off as they are prone to leaking and the plastic tubes usually break with age. You'll find the engine pulls harder to the redline with the bigger manifold, at the slight expense of bottom end torque. Kev 94 Corrado VR6
  7. Yeah it is a full on headliner down job, but that isn't too bad a job, bar a few awkward clips on the A and B pillars. Getting the liner out of the car is tricky but it can be edged out slowly without breaking it. I think all Corrados had the same tilt/slide roof mechanism. RE the kit, I'm not sure as on VW's mainframe screen, it states that the original Corrado left and right guides were obsolete from September 2002 and then replaced with the part above. It doesn't show left or right orientation. Another thing to try is contacting Rockwell international, who make VW sunroofs to see if they have any original C ones left? I'm seriously contemplating ditching the tilt function and just putting a MK2 slide only system in. Cheers Kev
  8. Just aswell it comes with a warranty being a Corrado!! Kev 94 VR6
  9. The A4 conversion looks too messy imo. It would look better with two lights the same size, as per the BMW conversion. I've owned loads of E30 bimmers and the lights on them aren't any better than the Corrado's, so it's purely a cosmetic mod. Since you can remove the glass from the Corrado lights, why not just do some black detailing on the stock ones? You can easily 'fake' two round lights. Kev 94 VR6
  10. If anyone has a sunroof cable guide snap on them (very common), VW do a repair kit - part no 1HO-898-014A (£47). This supercedes the original Corrado parts - 1H0-898-015A (passenger side) & 1H0-898-16A (driver's side). Looking on EKTA, this is a 94-97 Passat part, so if you can find a Passat of this era in your scrap yard, you're laughing. The symptoms of a snapped cable guide are one side of the roof staying up when coming back down from tilt mode and not sliding open. HTH Kev 94 VR6
  11. LOL, interesting music! Why can't the week at work be played at double speed too, and then half speed over the weekend? Kev 94 VR6
  12. Depends what subframes the Audi seats use, probably MK4 ones which are different to MK2 Golf/Corrado ones. Corrado seats are really low aswell, which is something else you'd need to consider but if you can fudge on a Corrado subframe on to an Audi seat, you're laughing. Not sure about the rear seats, probably just a case of fitting the Audi material and bolsters over the Corrado rear frames. Anything's possible, you just need the time to do it! Kev 94 VR6
  13. Is there anything K&N don't make a filter for??? They'll start making coffee filters soon! Seriously though, I would stick to VAG fuel filters to be on the safe side. Kev 94 VR6
  14. Apparently Corrados use a Passat rear axle with special bushes that allow a certain degree of passive rear wheel steering. I'm not sure but I think this was deleted on late models and replaced with a MK3 'plus' rear axle. I asked Vince at stealth about the rear bushes and he reckons they're just standard MK3 items, on the VR6 at least. I'm not overly sure but they handle really well regardless. Kev 94 VR6
  15. Well I was in the dealers today and asked about these platinum plugs. Corrados never had them apparently. They only list a NGK BKR5EKU (VAG p.no - 101000035AB). I asked him to check for the BKR5EKUPs and they are for an Audi S3/TT/LEON CUPRA R/GOLF 1.8T etc. I bought some of the former anyway for my next service as they only had 6 left and were only £4 each. They are just Bosch twin clones and labeled on EKTA as 'Longlife' plugs. If you notice a difference with the plats, let me know and I might try some. Kev 94 VR6
  16. Sounds a bit of a chore! Is that pump price from VW or G&S? Cheers Kev
  17. Oh yeah, hadn't thought of the water pump. You're probably right on that one. Let me know how it goes cause I wan't to get rid of my noise too! What kind of job is it to change out the pump? I've already bought 3 tubs of G12+ for when I pull the radiator out to fit the oil cooler, so would be a handy time to do it. Cheers Kev
  18. Well if my Stealth trip on Monday was anything to go buy, a tank is good for 510 miles (15 x 34mpg) but I doubt that'll ever happen. I always fill up before it gets to the red anyway. As for draining the tank fully being a bad idea, that's an old wives tale. The in-tank pump has a fine guaze over the end of it's pick-up and it doesn't quite rest at the bottom of the tank anyway, to avoid picking up water (condensation). The fuel filter is your second line of defense and collects micro-elements from shite fuel etc. Kev 94 VR6
  19. Picked my driver's arm up today and yes you are all right, it is the better of the two setups. To recap, you need a driver's arm with driver blade and driver arm with passenger blade. Doesn't quite wipe as much as the standard Lupo setup but it's still better than the terrible Corrado system, by miles. Don't mix the blades up like I did otherwise the drivers side clouts the A pillar! Cheers Kev
  20. Draining the tank is quite straight forward and no there isn't a drain plug. All you need to do is remove the lift pump (under the boot mat) and syphon all the crap out into a large container. Water is heavier than petrol and will sit at the bottom of the tank out of harms way anyway (pump doesn't quite reach the bottom of the tank as water and debris in petrol tanks is common), providing you didn't put too much in. Kev 94 VR6
  21. Mine makes the same whirring noise as yours does. Haven't investigated it yet as it only does it when hot, so not too concerned. Might just be the bearings in the tension roller or something.....It might also be the timing chain as noise from that can be transmitted through the block to the alternator end. 100K is the norm for these but not unheard of for them to wear earlier. Probably a HT lead with your other query, try swapping one over (completely, not just at the plug end!). Cheers Kev
  22. Fair enough, it's your money. I will ask the dealer and Stealth about this tomorrow because whilst I agree VW use things for a reason, I am dubious about this one. Especially as the Bosch plugs are a couple of quid each and all the Golf VR6s use them, even the late ones with the same DIS coilpack. Kev 94 VR6
  23. Out of interest, what are you hoping to achieve by fitting expensive platinum plugs? It won't improve performance or running. The only reason I've ever used platinum plugs was in a forced induction engine to stop the spark blowing out. I can't see what value they have in a NA engine, other than longevity perhaps but Bosch twins and triples aren't exactly known for their stingey service life. Kev 94 VR6
  24. They are the the mouldings that sit under the wipers unfortunately. Why VW were happy to leave the wiper motor etc exposed is a mystery and it looks a bloody mess when the bonnet is up to. Reckon I might try the MK2 Golf conversion. Kev 94 VR6
