  1. Here it is now, in winter/spring, before i put the BBS on. Oh bring on the summer please!!! Yes, this is my first Corrado [Nov 04], but not my first VW. It all began with dads Mk1 Golf Gti, wow! My Golf Mk2 1.6 was my first car, and what a good-un, reliable runner. You'll just see the Scirocco in the pic, and no its not a Delorian as all my mates keep asking... how sad. The Corrado feels quicker than the rocco, but only because its got a much stiffer ride on the lowered springs & low profile tyres; that rocco goes just fine. But i dont need to tell you lot that.
  2. What ins group is a VR6? [is it 20?] What group is the 16v 2.0 ? My ins is less than £500 TPFT, 2yrs nc, on 16v 2.0 ... not too bad.
  3. I like it, 7 for Llandudno, who wants to go there to nick a car... ha! Surprised Cov is only low
  4. I can only state the usual/obvious: - is it stolen? HPI - genuine miles?, seat sagging at 160k? - expensive parts to replace worn out? - all electrics work? sunroof, auto-spoiler, etc - looks straight? ... check all door/bonnet lines are parallel & flush. - check inner wings in engine bay & boot for possible crash. - noisy engine? - FSH; all parts changed when supposed to? - blue smoke from exhaust? - tracking, pulls on acceleration or bracking? - KNOCKING; go slowly, put onto full lock, does it 'clunk'? £ Towards the point of buying, to lower the price if following is worn: - Alarm faulty? - exhaust... [(92 onwards?) especially the CAT] - Locking wheel nut adaptor present? - spare wheel+tyre present? - cracked headlights are costly - use of genuine parts, eg oil filter, if not probably used cheap oil too? - speedo seems ok upto 70? - brakes & discs worn? ... wheel hub got play? ... etc , etc - a smattering of oil on engine is ok, a pool is not.
  5. Can anyone tell me if it is common for the pressure sensors to become too sensitive due to age? :?:
  6. Some systems require a new fob, which is then calibrated; cost can be as much as £50. Find a scorp' supplier
  7. HeadMISTRESS - what ever turns you on fella. Sorry, bout that - jokes over, just kidding. Mines older too ;) Who did you go with Jim?
  8. Ey-up lad...... this ones into MILFS ! ;)
  9. Howmany No claims you got? - quite a few if i remember correct. try all usual suspects: Norwich Union, Tesco , etc. Dont forget to add the parents !!
  10. Behave Jim, that makes me old too. Told you it should be a lot lower this time around. Keeping it?
  11. Nice one; hows the insurance in comparison? ££££££ ps - you 'bought', not "brought" [as in bring]
  12. Cheers fellas. It was my concern that the car is poorly set up [by previous owner]. I had a list of ideas as to what it could be. Hence the desire to go back to standard. I know it sounds silly to do all that, to fix the problem, to find out that i could've kept my 17x7's, but i think a nice set of 15x6.5 BBS-G60's will look nice as a pic in one of my threads. Still Looking for those wheels though..... market has dried up. Although just missed a set of [16]Rx's go for £210. Oh and Henny was right in the end... Get your tracking checked.... sounds like there's something else amiss here... . The camber was actually out, so I was running on the inner edge (like a knife)
  13. Hi, been off this topic for a while. YES, thats an RA, I dont like the look of it my self. Seen plenty on ebay going for similar money to the Corrado wheel [although told the RA is a cheaper wheel]. I've seen this RA in black too - looks better polished.
  14. Do alternative tyre pressure help reduce tramlining?
  15. Width of wheel makes for tramlinnig?! Does anyone here have first hand experience of both a 6.5j and 7j wheel, with regards to tramlining. At present im finding my 7j's tramline too much; ive got to fight the car to stay true; compared to the nimble scirocco its horrid.
  16. From the diagram, cheers Geo, Im infering that if a wheel gets wider, yet keeps the same offset (ET), then the edge of the wheel gets closer to the arch by half the width increase. Obviously a wheel can become too wide to the point it rubs the inner arch, but im guessing it catches the outer too. Having said that, lets say we moded the car - how does a very wide wheel affect handling, whilst keeping the same offset? Does it just make for heavier steering? THE diag helps me think clearer, thanks Geo
  17. EEk - its first day back to work and brians not in gear; of course offset is from centre line, my mistake. However my first question remains... what ET can i use with a 6 or 6.5j wheel, yet keep super handling?
  18. So how does a 11mm spacer make ET30 fall to ET19? Are you saying a spacer makes the ET smaller? That certainly changes my understanding. Confirm?
  19. Dec, are you sure about the ET? I know most people dont care, but Im telling you it makes sense to ensure you get the right ET, within reason. That sounds like a big ET, doesnt that push the wheel outwards, beyond the skirt?
  20. Cheers jim; glad they work for you, however i need to know what that setup is doing to the car. You may well be right in that it works fine. Not sure i agree about needing 7.5's.... wide boy - drag racing here we come!! Any experts about? pm's welcome
  21. Ive seen a set of 16x7 with ET35. What would need doing to make these fit, and make the car feel ok?
  22. My limited understanding leads me to believe: A bigger offset, moves the studs away from the HUB, thus moving the outer edge of a wheel away from your hub, and the car too. Putting a wider wheel, 7j, in a simple world would mean you would need to move the wheel away from the car, to avoid rubbing on the arch i guess. Hence a larger ET required. However in reality you can afford to move just a bit over (not 0.5") and so increase ET only a bit. Tyre contact with floor = handling Lets say we keep the inner part of the wheel exactly in the same place in relation to the car [from above], and made the wheel wider; surely this makes the handling more stable? However, if we moved the tyre in towards the centre of the car, would this make the car feel nervous / twitchy? Then if we kept the wheel the same width, but moved that wheel away from the car, does that make it more stable or slower to turn? I will leave Toe & camber to the specialists once wheels bought. [all based on standard springs]
  23. Im trying to go back ot standard. Off the top of my head I recollect the book saying 15" x 6j with ET35, or 6.5j ET33. As the perfect rims never appear when you need them Im always asking my self would xyz fit my car. To answer this can anyone explain how the ET works and how i can tell if they fit my car, how they affect my cars handling. Going by vw standard sizes, as above, I stupidly assumed that a wider wheel requires a small offset. Thus making a 7j requiring an et31 - is that correct or wrong? Because when i sat down to figure it out, i came to teh conclusion that my current 7j's with ET38 fit nicely, as they do not stick out beyond the body. In which case, it appears you increase offset when you increase width - but thats not what vw do....?!?!?!?!?!?
  24. Spotted a VR6, Red, cant remember plate, in Tile Hill in November. - almost didnt recognise this site.
