  1. My VAG system fitted last month is blowing - time to take it back to fitter. It will be fine. Note: its got a VERY quite tone until revd hard.
  2. Ok, I know my fuel gauge isn't perfect, but its not too bad. Yesterday I filled up having just under half a tank - the pump said it filled me up with 42 ltrs. Since when did i have an 80ltr tank? Anyone else reckon it a swizz?
  3. Is this similar to the BBS off the Scirocco/Golf ? Am also putting on some BBS with dark (grey/green) inner spokes, with polished rim/face (quite different to the Scala wheel), seems a good idea.
  4. :shaking: I'd pay less than £2k. Put it this way, I paid under 3k for a 94' plate with 80k miles; mint paint too. Dont rush it - theres loads out there. Yes it will hold its value. Just seen a tidy Red 16v for for near 2k with lower milage still on ebay.
  5. I'd agree with Kev - cant see 7.5" taking a 195 too well. Bite the bullet if you've got 7.5's, cos they'd even take 225mm. I've got some 15x7" BBS to go on, just bought some Dunlop 195/50ZR15 SP9000's, for a very low price. Next time I will buy 205's (/50/15), look better, but tramline a tad. Check Mytyres or Topgear for keen prices
  6. WONGA - which rado you got? As the VR6 had 5 stud I think. Whereas the 16v has 4x100 PCD. So if Supercharged guess is right, you'd be ok. Offset being less important by a few mm out. Think recommended is between 35 to 37. +or- a couple mm , should avoid fouling arches. You'll be putting 40% profile tyres on right.
  7. I take it you mean on a cold engine every time. I cant understand it my self - doesnt sound like fuel directly, cos obviously that evapourates off after a few mins. Whereas my golf used to star very well on cold but poorly on a warm engine. I dont understand the daily use making it worse... as if it were sooting up; cant be. Electrical maybe? Tried fiddling with the tickover? Flush fuel - use different? Good LUCK
  8. How do you know its got a factory fitted imob? What car is it? Some companies will not insure unless you've got the imobiliser (Morethan ins) - many dont seem to care about a CAT1. CAT1's tend to lock all doors etc automatically upon arming - not that this help you on the phone to them. Im with Norwich Union Direct for near to £400 tpft. All the above mentioned quoted nearer to 1,000

    Oil Advice.

Whatever you do, do use Fully Synth Multigrade. The idea is that it can work at both extreme temps, unlike a petrolium oil - thus use it all year round. I think min temps at about 60f, and max temp is way way high - ideal 4 u. I think the lower the # infront of the W, the lower the working temp. Remember that they can be quite thick - so yes, do be anal and take time to warm the engine; no thraping until after say 15-20mins. The full synth gives great protection when warm, filling all those tiny inperfections. Making all that lovely metal glide over each other. Over time it will break down, (but not the same) so will need replacing - 1/yr. You may notice a higher tick over, as it offers less resistance too - unless you're changing from a semi-synth (then no change will be noticed).
  10. Does it move? Is it real? - plastic isnt it? or is that the base coat, ready for the final bling finish... right? His names Max right? (Mad)
  11. What about the 2.0 16v? Civic Driver = Twonk :!: - I had a similar shock recently. Did my usual nip round a large roundabout to go flying past a black Civic-R as we enter a duel-carriageway. Glad with my manouver Im looking to pull into the 1st lane of this duel-carriageway, when behold in my mirror is that Civic, flashing lights etc (Chav). I slowly move over for n0bb-head and let him by, but with foot flat to floor. He clears off with a BM for company. Im left scratching my head - do they have 200bhp or somthin? Over the brow & down to next island... haha ive caught him up - sure enough he sees me and boots it...... bye, he's off again ; through some bends and im gaining.... another island a good 800yds off and he braking in the outside lane - wtf !! , im not thinking of braking for atleast half that - wot a twonk! Slowly slowly roud this island then he boots it. Im not interested (b*gger-him - i cud muller him on the bike if all he wants to do is compare straight line speed). Later on catch him up in a small town. Out the other side and its straight, but hazardous with blind dip & junction, hence solid white line. Whats he do?????? - yup, he goes and overtakes grand-dad on the solid line...... forget that!! __ I pootle home.
  12. Yup, the whole VAG system is a dull grey. Its VERY quiet; waiting for it to bed in a tad. Will need to paint the tail pipe... hmmm.oO(should've got the Jetex maybe) Anyone else got the VAG system(?), it wasnt pointed out in the parts dept upon purchase, but a sleeve is required between the CAT & straight pipe; somthing they forgot to tell me, and wasnt apparent on the diag.
  13. TG was good fun last night ; but would a Rado have been unfair? It was Quentin who tested it a while back. Whats on the show this weekend... or is it called off for some anal programme?
  14. I used Hammerite on the Golf - "mottled" effect. Lasted years.
  15. ... or even cracked hoses. Try poking the nozels with a pin, then squirt. Check it all from start to finish: Nozels, pipes (blocked/cracked), bottle then pump last.
  16. VAG system for the 2.0 16v Part ,, Part # ,, Price Down pipe ,, 358253087 ,, £315.84 CAT ,, 357131701CX ,, £300.07 Seal ,, 357253137A ,, £ 7.79 Gasket ,, 533253115C ,, £ 8.01 Front box ,, 357253209A ,, £ 97.31 Mid box ,, 535253409K ,, £158.63 Rear box ,, 535253609R ,, £131.60 Clamps (x3) ,, 1HO253139D ,, £ 12.10 each (*all including VAT) Tad expensive; get 10% off maybe. What does the VAG back box look like? - now see Gallery in my sig - dull silver , , black , , polished ?
  17. Jim - thanks for this, great idea! Car: Scirocco Exhaust: Jetex Op: lovely deep note. Too loud for ma', vw put on. Car: 16v 2.0 Corrado Exh: VW system + Bosal back-box Opinion: VW cat appears to be original and due replacing after its 10yrs. Bosal is cheapo naff put on by previous owner not long ago - blowing now, but very quite. Campaign & Kev are tempting me towards an original VAG. However heart says Jetex £320 Cat-back (over Magnex by price alone £365). Found a place that does most VW CAT's: Ceramic = £66 , steel-inner = £125. +VAT. Gotta agree, replacing one part rarely does much; all 3 parts gotta be done - ie: Air-intake , Engine , Exhaust ; to allow proper flow, only as good as the weakest part.
  18. Sorry, i know its not a rado, but spotted a very quick silver mk4 golf near Tile Hill; quick driver too, went like s*** off a shovel. If it was any of you, all i did was hold up 3 fingers to signify 30mph, as you're doing atleast 50 as you came over the brow, and almost wrote off the front end of my car - slow down; there were kids playing opposite too. how does a blackcat reach the pedals?
  19. Full system or CAT alone? What systems have you used, and whats BEST value for money? I was considering a GSF CAT, then a SS system backward. Can you mix systems like that? Whats the best SS system you've known? Magnex, Scorpion, Bastuck, ... Then where's the best place to buy em?
  20. I found the original VAG systems lasted a long while, front & down pipes 7yrs, whilst back box was 4yrs. I guess these SS systems are life time garunteed? That pic above, which corrado is it for? Is that an adaptor sleeve at first, to fit into a CAT?
  21. I've used em (GSF) for years. Were great value, and super service, but all depends upon that branch. Lots of parts are cheapo, so you gotta decide what you can affod to be naff. Buy a genuine oil filter off VAG. The GSF air filter has noticably less finns, but is ok if replaced 1/yr. Quantum oil is cheap at both. GSF is great for gaskets and wiper blades, and even thinkin of buying an exhaust off em - once they decide which one fits mine.
  22. Nick, thanks but I dont think so. Hard to tell. But probably time to get a new CAT anyhow, as the other sections are duff. I kinda know what the heat sheild sounds like, its more metalic, high pitched. This noise is ... nasty ! Very loud too. Im off to see Pete Holland in Leamington.
  23. Car - as above. What would the GSF system cost? CAT + middle section + (not the 2nd to last back box; got one) + back box on single bracket. & does it come with a 2 year warranty? :?:
  24. Cars making a horrid noise up front, but fingers crossed its not the motor. It sounds more like broken china, rather than grinding metal sound. Makes sense if the CAT is ceramic. Can anyone concur with this, you've had one go? Driving with a broken CAT - would cause no damage other than my pride? About time i replaced the whole system anyhow, was thinking a Magnex system for about £300. + CAT. I'd love to do away with the CAT, but have no pit or monet to keep swaping it for the MOT. Corrado, 2.0 16v '94' (suspect its an original cat)
