  1. Probably about £100 inc vat per side for all the parts then around £100 labour plus the wheel allignment... not cheap!
  2. Yeah I suspected it was something like that - is he picking up the bill ?
  3. You can buy on their own mate - just a pain to fit though as you'll need to do the bearing too IIRC They are bent I assume?
  4. So have you changed the ECU relay as advised?? I would do this along with the fuel pump relay and the ignition switch then look at the ISV if the problem persists.
  5. Supercharged

    Random plug

Speed sensor wire from stereo then...
  6. Yeah they will get them off in seconds - homebase sell them if you need them quickly... Those bolts - only had an issue with them once on some rusty old heap of a MK2, VW say replace every time - it's when they are re-used you get problems and they should only be taken off using a proper allen socket. They are a fine threaded M10 10.9 strength bold so it's VW only for these really - standard ones will corrode too easily too... If you order ones from a late MK3 Golf they are 50p each rather than £2 for the Corrado ones!
  7. I'm going for rear shock through the upper plate because of corossion...
  8. The amount of paint underneath is different on each car. I dont think they were supposed to be actually 'painted' but depending on how low down the painter got doing the sills affected how far underneath the paint got. It looks more uniform from the side view as opposed to directly underneath. That's really strange though - every VW i've ever seen of that era has been painted almost fully underneath... agree about the amounts differ though and the fact that Corrado's were painted by Karmann and not VW. Underseal is certainly doing it's job though and I would have thought you could tell if it was a re-shell...
  9. Have a good look at your wheel bolts and the seats!!! I think the front bolts may be touching the cages - maybe the wrong bolts or the refurb place has re-cut the holes or refaced the wheels and changed the offset slightly...
  10. Mixing Shiraz with Real Ale - what are you, a Scotsman?!
  11. Parts prices as of 2 months ago - trade prices so will be less than bodyshops quote as standard practice seems to be to base the quotes on RRP - another way of making a bit of extra cash it seems. Rear apron £380 + vat Rear Quarter £700 + vat (RHS slightly more because of fuel filler) Rear Bumper £420 + vat (early obselete so late one has to be used as alternative) Corrado script in primer £12+vat, rear VW roundel obselete but MK2 part is £10 + vat Number plate panel £45 + vat
  12. I wouldn't touch unipart with a bargepole tbh - there bushes seem to last a year or 2 at most the same as Febi - sh1te! If you can't afford new ones then get the existing ones blasted and powder coated and fit a new new VW front bushes and TT/R32 rear ones. Unless they are bent which is very unlikely on a VR or really badly corroded they will come up a treat!
  13. Paul, I think you'll be ok on £4k but I would try and take it to at least 2-3 body shops first if it's drivable and get some quotes - I think if you also explain the price of parts and the rear wing they may suggest what I said before which is to replace the rear panel which is fairy straight forward and designed to be repaired where the wing is more tricky and may be a better repair if it's panel beaten / re-aligned which is probably around the same labour cost as replacement. Good luck!!
  14. Haha - I think I saw they same show, I think it was in Brighton too wasn't it and I thought I would punch the bloke if I saw him over the weekend - what a knobber, clearly drunk too! People like that drive me mad and it goes to show the difficult people the police have no choice but to deal with. As for getting pulled over 25 times then either your driving style or the vehicle is drawing attention to yourself or you look like a complete bellpiece. I've been driving for 13 Years with an average of 40k miles a year, I don't drive slowly and I think I've been pulled over a total of 5 times (Half a million miles!) - 4 of which in a Red MK2 with a sports exhaust system.
  15. VW's paint process is Etch, then dipped in filler primer before top coat.
  16. After many years being around Corrados I think I can safely say that I've never come across a nugget car where the vivid, retina burning yellow has ever faded. Unfortunately. :D It does seem to suffer the same UV / pigmentation problems that you see in tornado red but this one was one of the very best I've seen - no paint issues, low miles and garaged so no fade at all too the paint and the dash plastics looked like new.. :-(
  17. 'Costs for envelopes' - jesus Eric, we all just nick those from work don't we? Unless of course you run your own business or something... :D
  18. Ok, is it 5,000 agreed? (This is what mine was) Unbelievably the Bumper, Boot and rear lights all look ok from here and the rear quarter could be fixed without replacement - you'd deffo need the rear apron though but these are only £380... It's a lot of damage but I reckon £3k and a (very) good body shop - proper panel craft place could sort it to a high standard
  19. Glad you're ok mate though and remember you have a few more and at least it wasn't the VR. Unfortunatly that's about twice as bad as mine was - must have been a really heavy shunt too! Mine was a rear panel, number plate panel, bumper and badges and that came to £2200. Yours needs a rear quarter and boot floor straightening too - £3500 / 4000 worth there I'd say... is it on an agreed value at all?
  20. I can't believe your local place thought it was the ECU without trying the relay first - if they are meant to be a VW specialist I wouldn't use them again, idiots!
  21. This sounds very much like a stuck bypass valve for the matrix if fitted.
  22. Aren't HID's meant to use some sort of ballast resister? I'd stick with standard anyway, Corrado reflectors are not designed to take HID's
  23. If the ball joint on the track rod itself is worn you will get play at the wheel - loads so would therefore fail the MOT. Sounds like you've found the issue though - well worth going to the fixed steering column to replace the adjustable, TT / R32 Front WB bushes are another good handling mod. Another good way to check if this is the culprit is lock the steering and move the wheel from side to side while looking at the road wheels - they should move and this should be easily visible, if they appear to move only a couple of mm then the column has play.
