Have you had full geometry checked - ie camber?? When was it last MOT'd - could be a dead wishbone bush or the thrust angle could be off due to a worn rear axle bush
-
There should be yes but if the light is on then the ABS is disabled becuase of a system fault.
-
Either of those are good and close to what was used originally - ie the metal one The VW supplied one is made by KLG and completly different construction of pressed metal.
-
Try another genuine VW thermostat - non genuine ones seem to play havoc with cooling systems Also try the old sensor back in - again, especially if it wasn't genuine.

This will be the bypass vales in the engine bay kicking in - maybe heater matrix is leaking

Ditto :D Same applies to women... I like them how I like my cars, 19 years old and locked in a garage.
-
They don't offer you a coffee though and the women at Audi are in a different class to the old trouts at Wolsey...

Snow Foam is the stuff to use and make sure it has a good coat of wax on it. Mine gets dirty quickly but the foam just makes it clean again as it's all sat on top of the wax

It's TT arms you want, they're better. Go and see Neil at Ipswich Audi - he'll do you a deal if you mention THE Corrado Forum.

The offset of the Borbets and the resistance of winter tyres probably killed off the old bearings. If you change them only use genuine VW bearings - cheap ones are dangerous imo.

Nice! Yeah seen a few like that although not that bad... Tried loads of different ones over the years and the only ones that seem to last are the ones Maplin sell on the shelf - they have a seal round the edge. The way to go is to seal them plus the connections to them in a resin box like you'd use for wiring junctions outside

Yeah, the VW stuff is the stuff to use, waxoyl is just another product by Hammerite - does the job but not particuarly well! Those 300ml cans probably only contain around half that measure of wax, I used a couple of 1ltr cans on mine - heated up in a can of hot water until it starts to oooze out and then sprayed using a gun with a wand attached - obviously you need a half decent compressor for this. Other option is to take it to a decent body shop to do - had my MK2 Golf re-injected with wax when it got to 10 years old, mainly becuase of the ammount that used to run out of it in hot weather as kevb describes above - was never a patch of rust on that car

Some good info here so amended tread title.

Starter motor turns too slowly when hot (won't start)
Supercharged replied to Jim Hughes's topic in Engine Bay
I'd kind of ruled out the ignition switch as the 12V signal from this just energises the starter solenoid so I don't think that would cause it to turn slowly - if it wasn't engaging the flywheel then it would run fast I think with no resistance (?) That said, the original ones do go wrong and they've been improved now using a Polo 6N part (black in colour) so well worth adding to the shopping list to keep the car reliable - I'd say the low miles is the only reason it's still working tbh - £20 ish from VW -

Jim - change the brush pack on the alternator - at 120k miles they will be worn. You can even do just the brushes themselves - couple of quid from VW -
Moved to interior...

If running an aftermarket loom you should disconnect the dim-dip resistor... you can do this as above or at the fusebox end - trace wires from the H/L switch loom.

Nice work Bruny!!

You have a garage though you plumb plus your car gets a brake service every other week :)
-
You shouldn't need to as the piston size of the ATE calipers (288 / 312mm) is 54mm - ie the same as the standard Girling 54's When fitting G60 calipers to a MK2 with 239's you need to do this as the standard master is only 20mm. I'm running 312mm brakes on mine with a standard but brand new 22mm non ABS MC and they feel fine.
-
Sounds about right, think it was less than £4 when I last bought some but I think that might have been 12 years ago as I remember using it on my MK2!
-
Honestly mate - just buy the proper stuff, as Chris says it's more than just PTFE as it has a anti freeze additive - one can lasts years and I've never had an issue. It's part of the service schedule so needs doing every year like an oil change.
-
Yeah, as above for track rods for all 4 cyl models and they come with ends. Can't really see how VW would get the above wrong with the VIN number etc? Is it RHD ??
-
Don't use WD40 - it's not a long term fix - Just buy the proper stuff from VW, works wonders and I never have locks freezing.
-
It is a dizzy model mate but that's the coil that feeds it, that lead will be available separately from VW too if required.
