  1. I love the 'checkpoints' you get on these articals - completly useless crock of sh1t!
  2. Hi there, yeah you need an allen key to remove but it's a funny size - maybe look at gearbox drain plug keys, I think I used one that was 1mm too small but worked ok as they are not tight. The brass inserts and the plastic shrouds that clips on are available from VW for reasonable cash - the injectors maybe better sourced from GSF
  3. Yeah that's not uncommon Dave, I had the same issue - that's the only wiring join in the door, well worth re-wrapping it all too while you are there!
  4. Ah well done, yeah I think 9 should be empty but will check and confirm.
  5. 260k Miles now - last 95k with a PD TDI engine fitted.
  6. Yep that's correct, it's a number 53 and should be mounted upside down, the relay in position 10 is also a 53 so you can move that accross one to test. New ones are around a fiver from VW but you'll probably find it under the seat. Fuse number 13 controls this circuit and the switch works by taking a live from the steering column switch plugs and earthing through the column itself to complete the circuit and activate the relay. Thread title edited
  7. Thanks for the update - yeah the ABS ECU is always the one to try first, especially if the car has ever had a replacement screen.
  8. Thanks mate - yeah he did it himeslf (as he has countless numbers of times on various cars) and yes it was the metal type... I reckon it just wasn't done up but the threaded bush was still there so must have undid itself and fallen off - just strange that Ford seem to have changed the part for some reason. No warranty etc so just called Ford - £3,300 for a new engine but they do have stock in the UK, will be more like £3,500 with Gaskets / Bolts / Fluids etc :(
  9. 14mm then, the plugs on G60's last ages by the way if they are the proper ones and the car is running well... upto 60k miles!
  10. Yeah you need to go through basic settings on VAGCOM, you can't really disconnect a battery on a VR6 without this.
  11. Any Ford people / mechanics on here?? My mums partners' 55 plate Mondeo broke down yesterday when the oil filter seemingly fell off or exploded... The oil had been changed earlier that day (not by me!) and he's sure the filter was tight etc and also primed, it was a genuine Ford filter but had a different part number to the old one, he checked with Ford and it's a superceded part, I have also checked this and the info seems to be correct - 2.0 Duratec engine but he said it was also slightly different in size / shape... does anyone have info on this as I didn't see the old or new one and seems a bit odd? Basically the car lost the whole sump in seconds at 70mph, oil light came on and engine was stopped as soon as possible - does anyone know the rough cost of a new engine from Ford or any other good suppliers? Second hand really isn't an option as it's a 30k mile car :gag:
  12. If the idle increases when the BTS is unplugged then something is not right - I would check the ignition timing first as this procedure should be done before the CO. Could be something simple like an air (vac) leak.
  13. As above try VW first but if not Halfords do them for £2 but the colour match can be a bit hit and miss!
  14. What car / engine do you have?? 8v's are 14mm
  15. Yep, was with the AA last year for £7 via Quidco then upgraded to Relay for £10 for the last 6 months. I've now just gone with RAC for £34.50 - £23 cashback again with Quidco so paying £11.50 this year.
  16. Jim, I could have got you a set and posted them, tbh I wouldn't use anything else but VAG now - the quality is superb so not sure about the above comment or where it came from? I actually bought some ABF leads a few months back for a mate and they we're really well made and exactly the right lengths etc - less than £50 too!
  17. http://www.screwfix.com/prods/96028/Van ... over%20Set
  18. Sounds like the power stage of the amp has blown but you could check the connections and the fuse at the back of the unit first... Maybe get the alternator output checked at Halfords before fitting a new one if it has blown something.
  19. Yeah they come pre-coated, if you need another 2 then they are pennies from VW or £1 for 4 from Halfords.
  20. As above those shims are standard and should be fitted to all cars - I've tried pads with a backing where it says to remove the shim and they have squeeled so I would always fit them. That's fine on the carrier bolts (as long as they are torqued correctly) but it's the caliper to carrier ones that come with thread lock on - you must either replace these with new ones (pads come with 2) or re-apply threadlock. The most important thing to remember on an ABS car is what RW1 has said above, open the bleed nipple to prevent ABS valve damage - the amount of garages that don't even realise this is unbelievable!
  21. It's 150ish now and is mapped to behave more like a petrol - love it!
  22. That from the dealers sheesh, where the hell did they get the price from when i checked  I think the price you got was right but they priced them up individually, the price above is for a set.
  23. Hi mate, yeah got yer PM - will try and reply properly tomorrow if I get chance... Basically mine is mounted using the MK4 mounts welded in - crude but works well. I highly recommend the TDI conversion and suprised there are hardly any other C TDI's on the road - the torque is awesome!
