  1. I picked up some cheap JBL's to match the 6 by 4's in the rear of the TDI, 5 1/4 for the doors went in fine and I knew they were connected to the tweeters in some way but I assumed there was a crossover somewhere... Basically I have some 3 1/2" 2-ways I want to stick in the tweeter location, the physically fit fine but I didn't realise the signal passed thru these first before going to the doors... The original tweets seem to have a capacitor on the plate (which I thought was a low pass fiter??) so maybe no seperate crossover so should I be ok just joining the wires together to send the sound down to the doors..? Polarity - I assume the cables with brown in the colour coding means neg? TIA
  2. I think you have a faulty stat - did you test it in a pan?
  3. Nah - the tensioner is the unit at the top, I think i'm wrong - must be a metal pulley... I think i was thinking it was plastic as if they are not maintained then you need a whole new unit but that must be for another reason...
  4. Belts don't usually stretvh that much but it could be a cheapo one on there.... The tensioner has a plastic wheel with bearing inside, you need to get the belt off to see if this spins freely - what might have happened is the bearing seized and the plastic wheel has melted, if thats the case then you need a new unit - £60 from VW and is held onto the head with 3 10mm bolts
  5. Serp Belp on a VR6 is probably the easiest to change... I would get the propper poly ribbed belt from VW and you will also need an M8x80 bolt to de-tension - you can't adjust the tensioner you will see the hole to feed the bolt into on the top of it. Also check the tensioner bearing - you can buy it seperatly from a bearing supplier - search on here for the part number.
  6. Hi Helen - they are 3 for £12 in Halfords at the moment...
  7. Welcome to the forum, yeah that is a bit hot - in my experience the 2.0 16v doesn't seem to need an extra oil cooler like the VR and G60, both my mates run at 90/90 most of the time...
  8. Yeah, no need for the TW, you get a new washer with the filter so just need to nip up... Best tip for the 16v filters is to use a larger spanner (adjustable will do) to hold the filter while undoing the banjo bolts and be carefull not to move it much as the plastic lines are delicate when twisted
  9. They are the same length but the offset is different, if you don't know the part number, take it to VW and just get the other side from the Lupo (they keep in stock)

    G60 - 1991

Hall senders (inside the dizzy) can break down in this way - ie they get hot, stop working then are ok again after cooling down...
  11. Hmmm - yeah I think it was a bit further than I thought - I also left my feckin overalls in your boot...
  12. Dubnut - check the hall sender plug and also check the spring inside the dizzy cap is there and connecting to the rotor arm... Was the cap genuine?? (Bosch)
  13. Never even heard of Roulex - ECP sell some real sh1t, i've never had a set of leads from them last more than 2 months - utter crap!
  14. Yep - VW stuff for me too, better than decosol... Audi also do there own in a higher concentrate too which is also just as good!
  15. It's leaking into it's housing - change it asap!
  16. Blimey! - yeah i'd grab a second hand one - they come up fairly reguarly as people de-wiper the rears...
  17. Dinkus and NickVR6 are running 312's under 16's but both wheels are OE VW of some sort...
  18. Ideal for retrims!!! FYI - Fiat Tipo's also used the same model Recaro as offered as an option to the Corrado with a cool tartan like cloth trim not unlike the mk1/5 GTi
  19. Unbelievable!! Name and shame them when you find them John!
  20. I'll stick some pics up when I get home Jimbo... hope you got back in good time? Yan - I had more trouble with the arm on his than on Tim's - it was alreldited all the way round, just pushed the new one on (tight fit so won't come free!) - Jim shat him self when the car didn't start this morning (Yup, I left the hall sender unplugged ) Brake fluid looked like cocacola and yeah over a litre was needed inc doing the clutch but as you say VW specify 2 (I think this is to make sure the stuff in the ABS unit is clean..) I will email you tomorrrow about a couple of 'interesting' things we found probably done by a certain garage in the past!
  21. LOL- MK2 Golf part = Fiver from GPC etc
