Have you just tried cleaning the runners and greasing up the mech?? May just be starting to struggle with age...

Best to get the dealer one - I think GSF also sell one with the right plug but if not pay the extra and go VAG - they're about £50 if you get a decent discount.

Are you using the OE Gates Poly-ribbed belt??? What are the plastic runners like?

Yep, that is good! 3-4 hours labour there, make sure he disconnects the ECU and the speedsensor before dropping the box.

Mine just starts to go black at about 3k, as RW1 says the charger is oil fed and for the sake of £12 for the oil and filter plus 30 mins work I think it's well worth it!

If the light is on the the ABS is disabled.

Agree with Henny there... No offence BlackCat16v but were'nt you asking about changing the water pump before and got put off by the size of the job?- if so you really don't want to be changing a clutch (much more involved) unless you have access to some airtools and a hydraulic lift!! - much more fun to pay someone like Stealth and watch them do it!! Also - it may not need a clutch change from what i've read, just sounds like a fluid leak somewhere... any signs of fluid ontop of the gearbox/under the slave??? If its done 120k miles and the clutch has never been done then fair enought, change it anyways but otherwise get the slave looked at and changed and fluid bled thru...

Yep, depends what you class as a service really... like Mat says once a year / 10k miles (whichever comes first) has been standard for VW for years but I would always do an oil and filter change at least once inbetween. I'd recommend Oil changes every 3k miles on G60's and VR6's because of how hot they run.

On my G60 it earths to a nut just next to the plug very close to the rear engine mount, not sure if the VR is the same or not...
