Thats correct, you need a loom, its all about the volts getting to the lights, the path is inefficient and the wiring oxidises with age giving extra resistance...

Have a look for traces of fluid under the slave cyl (on top of the gearbox) - there may not be any tho as they start to leak internally first....

The water pump is about £25 (exchange) from VAG for a new whole unit (don't just get the impeller) You may also want to get a new stat and plastic housing etc...

Change the thermoswitch on the Rad (between the top and botom hoses), the overrun is regulated by the abient air temp which is in the bumper.

Yes, I couldn't believe how badly yours had worn in 10k miles Kev, like I said before as soon as the hard coating is worn off the upper tensioner (which takes the best part of 100k's) the chains will start eating through into the rivets, thats another reason why the mk4 items are a good upgrade as they are solid so even tho they wear, they will do evenly (and slowly hopefully!)

Yeah, I forgot to update the original post I think, I got mine a few weeks ago, its a little disapointing as its just a reprint of magazine articles and road tests most of which I already had but still nice to have and worth paying a tenner for!
