  1. Right, baby valver went for an MOT on Saturday and failed. Handbrake insuffient! Not bad for a 17 year old motor. So I checked the rear brake calipers and both are adjusting OK and hold the rear wheels fine? The only thing I could find was the cables needed a bit of adjustment. So I did that and found 25p under the drivers seat! Even more of a bargain. VR had a good clean today, ready for the classic motor show Friday. Did under all the arches and inside the wheels etc. Looking much better. Still leaking oil everywhere, looks like one of the oil pressure switches. DOH. I'll need to get that sorted before Thursday. Not an easy job though, looks like a front off job :(
  2. Ah well, I guess I'll answer my own question with mk2 16v mounts then!
  3. Ed, looking good. Plenty of wax on the old gal then! Love the 'mildly moist' look of pic no.2
  4. This may be a daft question, but are Golf 3 16v engine mounts the same as Corrado ones? My reason for asking is that Corrado mounts seem to be twice the price of Golf 3.
  5. Good stuff Karl, glad you got it sorted. I was about to reel of the list of spare VR parts I have to try when you came over!
  6. A guy in a red VW transporter bus was following me round the Worcester ring road, I noticed he was taking pictures of my car with his camera phone balanced on the steering wheel! The lengths people goto for a few Corrado pictures!
  7. Nice work waynos! Be very interested to see how you get on with the MS, having tried it on my VRT it was pretty good. Just don't give me any ideas for my 16v, it's staying standard!
  8. Pretty sure that if you unplug the MAF the ECU will drop into an error condition and run without it (based on throttle position and engine speed), so it'll run but not as good as with the MAF. Might need to drive it to notice the difference. Should idle fine. And yes I have the late CP ecu with film maf rather than wire.
  9. Reading this again and some recent MAF research for something different, I'd now go for MAF problems. MAF is used to meter fuel quantity and a dirty or faulty one will give the hesitant response your talking about. You've a dizzy VR so it'll be the early wire type MAF, expensive to replace and a prone to failure. I've had some ideas about retro fitting the later style MAF or even one from a late Golf, but as yet not tried on a car.
  10. I need to give John @ Brentacre a ring. They sorted out the VRT, so I guess the dual policy will need to come from them. But as always, it's best to shop around so I'll give the other suggestions a go, cheers. It's hardly been touched under the bonnet. Every clip and cable as it came out of the factory, very unusual to see on a 17year old, 140k motor. When it's had a bit of a clean, I'll get some pics up.
  11. Thanks for the comments. Jim, haven't really noticed yet, I just had a quick drive out around the block to make sure it was OK. Felt quite comfy compared to my rather stiff Eibach / Koni setup. Vaughan, it's a great colour. If the sun would come out a bit more I might even get to appreciate it! Mr Sands, sure will, another one to spot  , just need to get it insured, mot and tax. Sounds expensive already (see below!). Yan, it'll be pretty hard not to borrow bits off it. It has been suggested that I strip it out and turn it into a track day car already!!!! That would be a shame, as it's stayed so complete for 17 years. Been looking at insurance today (which has to be one of my most hated things to do!). Just a few things that get to me: I've been driving a car for 20 years now, never made a claim. So why does my no claims discount only apply to one car :? Obviously my driving gets really sh*t when I step out of the VR into the valver or something? 3rd party and fully comp make no difference to the cost of the cover? Try this one out for yourselves at direct line or something. My wife can get a cheaper quote than me (she has a similar perfect record)? I've had quotes that exceed the value of the car? How does that work?
  12. Stu, first thoughts, nooooooooooo. But hey, I've been married 15 years this October and it's great. Some things may have to go on hold for a bit, but I'm sure whatever plan you have cooking will be a good one. Just you make sure you keep in touch on the forum :)
  13. Looking good Paul. Can't wait to see this one, looks a nice piece of engineering. A guy at work has Megajolt on his kit car. It works a treat, and yes very cheap but also easy to setup.
  14. Its reasonably rare is suppose, but I've got one  It's a pearl as well!! Looks well, when polished 8) It's a very strange colour.... my LED torch makes it look mud brown???
  15. Cheers all! Yes, it's going to stay standard. Just had a look in the boot and the colour is LC3Y (Bordeaux Red Metallic), anybody know if this is rare?
  16. Valver pics now posted up in my gallery http://the-corrado.net/.archive/forum/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=49323&start=210 I really love the colour, can see it now it's had a good polish!
  17. Couldn't resist this H plate valver, standard in every way. A few bits of rust around the wings, and the odd ding and dent but a few hours with the box of Megs products did the trick. Drives like a dream even at 140k. No smoke or rattles from the engine. Needs an MOT & TAX, but everything works. Even the sunroof! Still not sure why I bought it, guess I just didn't want it to end up on ebay, then being broken for bits. Lovingly cared for by the previous owner (moving on to a VR) who just happens to be the guy who did all the welding on my turbo bits and bobs! Too many C's being broken up for my liking. 2.8l 24v Climatronic system.pdfnewC1.jpg[/attachment:0e031] newC2.jpg[/attachment:0e031]
  18. Cool, a Beige valver  cheap as chips as well! Any plans? Going to use the Squirt? Not at the minute, it's running really great on the LE Jetronic (or whatever they are). TBH I always liked K jet, so simple and easy to fix. Bodywork needs some tidying, and an MOT. But apart from that its solid.
  19. Stu, I've just collected my latest toy, a Beige Valver! Pretty good for an H plate, few bits of body need sorting. Engine runs well & everthing works (sunroof, rear spoiler, fogs in one piece, bonnet release, C locking, heater etc etc). Completely standard, even the radio is original. Came with a boot load of spares and a bonnet, front panel, two doors and pair of wings! Bargain at £600 I'll get some pics up tomorrow.
  20. But it's a Corrado, doesn't matter about anything else! ENJOY!
  21. Right on! Oh wait a minute, my VRT will still do 30+mpg!!!!! Perhaps it needs more boost
  22. Hi Paul, Wondered how this was going? Can you post a few pics up, would be a lots easier to figure out which bits you're on about. Think your pretty local to me anyway, give me a shout if you need a hand. Dave
  23. Yes, sure is a bit daunting. I don't think I've had anyware near the amount of problems that others seem to have had. But my car is one of the last few so this pretty new (even though it's 12 years old!). Think I'm starting to get a dicky sunroof though, must get that apart and sorted soon. I've had almost as many problems to fix of my 7 year old mk iv Golf!
  24. Tom, if your using a usb to serial converter that might be the problem, I tried 2 different ones before mine would work properly. Dave

Hi Andy, Can't help you much without knowing the engine you've got and how old the car is etc. Sounds like the temp sensor though, ECU will assume 75~ temp if the sensor fails, vag com says it's failed so looks like wiring or sensor or both.
