:D Indeed, still at the rate they're building here it wont be long before its time to go... getting a bit peopley for me, and I'm not a fan of people... grubby things :D
-
Is that the one that parks down the Tring Road? near the Subaru garage?

Another amazing post from Si! Hats off mate, ;) -
Do like I did... pull it apart.. spend thousands on it then let it sit there and grumble about having no time! :D
-
You're not supposed to sell them! they for putting in the garage and looking at! :)
-
I used this stuff, like you I tried the acoustic foam and it's to thick...
-
I used a jet washer... my car had stood for 4+ years and had a lot of water ingress... the carpets stank but were not worn. I covered it in soap (Persil from memory) allowed it to soak and jet washed it off, carpet is now mint! We used to do this years ago when I worked in a panel shop - car carpet is pretty strong and will dry very quickly... this was out of the car obviously ;)

Not yet, it's off having an MOT, still not sure it was a good idea, life took a bit of a detour.... a rather expensive detour, but hey ho 265Bhp and a DSG box made me smile :D But as the Audi was doing less than 4,000 a year it does seem a bit of a waste of money, also last winter the Audi was absolutely amazing... I can remember being out in the snow and just driving round people that were going nowhere! not a stop and help situation of course which I would of done. Longitudinal Quattro, a first turn of the key car from the day I collected it many years ago... I will miss it.

Thought this would compliment the Corrado nicely! White Rado Black Rocco ;)

Quite a bit I would imagine as the battery tray connects to the chassis leg and the inner wing... would it not be easier to cut out the rusted part, cut the non rusted part from the repair panel and seam weld it in? - plenty of cleaning up and good rust prevention would be my thoughts.
-
Who did you use Adrian? the chap in Bishopstone?
-
Sonic cleaning, or new ones would be my thoughts

Similar age/story to mine, stood a long time, last owner 20 odd years ;) Block and head should be repairable - get the block decked and devcon the head if it just the water jacket rot on the head face where the gasket sits? - then clean and skim as usual. Go for the MLS gasket as you'll have two very clean faces.

A bodyshop should have a sandblaster that has a direct panel rubber gaiter fitted to it so it can be held directly on the panel, it also has a vacuum cylinder that pulls the used sand away.. Something like this... https://www.ebay.com/itm/28-Gallon-Abrasive-SandBlaster-Sand-Blaster-VACUUM-20-/362459652321 I used to use it all the time when I worked in a bodyshop for mainly getting the rust out of wheel arches! usually MK3 Escort XR3i's - rot boxes they were! LOL! ;)
-
I used UPOL Zinc 182 - but I did remove the rust first with hydrochloric acid - if you intend to paint with 2-pack paint go easy on the panel wipe as it will remove aerosol type primer, but the primer itself is completely stable under the paint. The rust has not returned on anything I've done (mostly battery tray) so far. ;) Really unless you remove it..... it will come back... my experience with remedies and potions is bad, - cut it out, shot blast it or acid removal has had the best results for me, then a good coat of primer.

I'd be upset at half that for two 12" fans and a CNC bracket :(

The 268's are designed to take over once the Shrick Manifold is coming off song as such higher up the range... Speaking with Vince the 263's are the best all rounders... I have a Shrick manifold but still went for the 263's... Vince drew a nice graph and explained it all whilst I was there and they seemed the best to me.
-
Shimmels are apparently the best of the bunch giving gains across the range.. they run fine on stock springs. Jim Bowen is also looking for a set... could be worth ringing Vince at Stealth and staking an interest, they might speed the order up.
-
Thats roughly what I've spent on my engine... about 3k-ish - but that does include the Shrick Manifold From memory.. block over bored to 82.5mm, high compression Wiseco pistons (thought I was in a hurry and standard pistons were on factory order so you could find cheaper pistons), balanced crank and rods, decked and hot tanked block - £1800 Man in the Shed (Dave) ported and rebuilt cylinder head £500 - you should be able to source a fully refurbished stock head for a lot less. Stealth late timing chain set £170 and MLS head gasket £28 - I did also go for Shimmel Cams at another £460. Few other costs would be the remaining gaskets, plugs, oil etc... but I've built the engine as I really enjoy doing it and don't have the spare cash to pay someone really, but I recon your £2.5k should rebuild your engine, but you will have to get your hands dirty, plus you get to do all the bits you want to do to make it look factory fresh! - give the block a coat of paint, get all the brackets plated or powder coated, I also had the aluminium parts aqua blasted and I've also cleaned, ported and painted my exhaust manifolds ;)
-
Gessss Si! - you're an absolute legend on the parts!! - I'm thinking of setting you up a counter in my garage! :D
-
Aha! Cheers Cressa! ;) I will be back soon with updates for sure! - life just got in the way a little lately :(

The Corrado is definitely 'proper' - and will probably spark more interest than the porker these days as you just don't see them, mine is sat on my mum's driveway until I get the engine back in it, but even so I've had 3 requests to buy it as it sits from passer by's... I'm fortunate enough to have a Porsche specialist best mate so get to go in everything from a Ruf CTR3's to a 1200Bhp Terminal Velocity 911 - but I don't see the Corrado as any lesser of a car. Just different
