Or even a wire brush will do just to get the surface rust off, make sure you give it a good clean after wire brushing so youve got a good clean surface for the KRUST application
-
Get rid of all the surface rust with sandpaper or similar then wack some KRUST (small bottle available at halfords) on it then paint it with hammerite
-
Yeah thats where the problem lies, dont use the drain plug otherwise you'll run into problems
-
Probably but i didnt want it happening again so binned it
-
About 20/30 quid for plastic one. Didnt know there was lifetime warranty plus id have to send the old part back to the US etc, not worth the hassle.
-
Dont get one mate i had one on mine for a while and the drain screw doesnt do its job after a couple of years and starts leaking, put a standard vw plastic one on will last over 100k
-
Yeah I keep mine and every receipt. Mainly because when I bought it all I got was manuals and service book but now I have receipts from engine rebuild, gearbox and even little clips

ITS DONE took forever but i did todays work with a light outside in the dark. Some of the screws in the dash got a right swearing at when they wouldnt go in and "who decided to put that screw there"
-
Haha even though i did this a few weeks back I still struggled in a few parts. Id love to meet the person who decided to put them screws on the heater vents great idea. Chris not a chance lol
-
Glovebox both undertrays centre console and all the gubbins round the heaterbox
-
Well after spending most of the day on it the new matrix is in and managed to repair the direction dial feet window etc so it works on all settings. Also repaired the foam stuff on the heater box (some foam scrap I found) pics below so looks miles better now. All installed just dials and centre console to do tomorrow and its done thank god
-
I just drained out what was in it and put the same about in the matrix before fitting it back As for parts goldie all you need is a lot of time and patience and a heater matrix preferably a valeo one which you should be able to find on ebay as the one from GSF now is a febi one not a valeo one as it was a few years back
-
Will do when ive completed it mate
-
When I replace the matrix do I need to fill the matrix up to avoid an airlock? Im not draining the whole system just undoing the 2 heater pipes Thanks
-
Coolant was below minimum when i checked the car this afternoon no visual leaks in the engine bay or on the ground. Checked carpet and bone dry but checked at the joins on the heaterbox and theres coolant there so just spent the last four hours taking stuff out and one bolt on the centre console refuses to budge. Think im going to have to drill it out

Cheers Matt
