How about this kit? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VW-GOLF-CORRADO-V ... 5d28a68f8f seems a fair wack cheaper than buying everything separately (1x postage!) and only 20 quid extra for the thermo plate...

Hmm, I was afraid the 25 row was going to be too big. I've just bought a cheap 10 row from ebay for the Rotrex. Do I need the thermostat too? This is getting more expensive by the day!

If I'm ditching the standard heat exchanger and just using the mocal, will I still need a differnet length bolt? I have a metal cap but it doesn't seem like it wants to unscrew from the bolt, and I don't want to damage the bolt really if it can just be reused. Any ideas?
  6. jboyslick? on here has an R32 running I believe, Leon is breaking his at the moment, so I think you can take him off the list! PhatVR6 has had a 4x4 haldex? R32 'Rado running for a good few years too. HTH
  7. Ooh looks so good doesn't it! Shame it had to be hidden forever! Mine is getting fitted for me on Thursday evening by a friends friend: will be interested to see if any extra parts are needed?
  8. Do people (you guys ) still recommend the NGK BKR7E for charged VRs? What should I do about gapping them? I heard 0.24 mentioned?
  9. Must say that since going around the car with the foam it's a joy to drive on rough roads! I turn the stereo down now just so I can appreciate the lack of horrrible bangs and rattles. Would deffo recommend it! Had a busy weekend: Started stripping my spare engine after picking up an engine crane from Alex (G60edge) Got the inlet, wiring loom, fuel rail etc off no problem. Then took the box, clutch etc off. Wavetrac diff arrived today so that's going off with the box to mate to fit. He works at a motosport transmission company and one of the guys is going to stick it in after work one day :D Couple of pics: Had a bit of 'mare yesterday though: After having a good play with the new engine at the weekend, I thought I'd take a look in my engine bay and work out if there were any parts which I didnt know how to remove. Upon looking down the back of the engine, I noticed that one of my O/S driveshaft bolts was fully sticking out! Obviously I was pretty shocked, I pulled the bolt out by hand (not even on 1 thread!) and drove the mile to my parents gingerly. Once there, I got the car up on stands and every single bolt on the drivers side was finger tight! OMG! Luckily, I bought a spline set at the weekend and had it on me, so did the bolts up as best I could. Had leaked a fair old wack of CV grease over the place, but as the whole lot is coming out next week I won't worry too much. Just thankful of a lucky escape, Will get a touch of loctite on the bolts when I swap over. :D Anyone know the part number for driveshaft bolts?
  10. Does anyone know a good UK source of Permatex spray gasket, or a suitable replacement? All my searches come up with US results. but I've heard it recommended on here a lot. Any ideas appreciated.
  11. Hey Karl, No problem! My problem is that as the timing is being set, the flywheel will rotate, and at the moment the little locating pins on the flywheel catch on the arms of the engine stand. I guess I could just space it out with some more washers though so it doesn't catch anymore and lets the flywheel spin. I just didnt want to use too many washers.
  12. Levering a bit with a big screwdriver behind it ok?
  13. Doh! I should of given it a go last night before putting it on the stand!
  14. Hi, I've tried searching but had mixed results. I've got the engine on a stand at the moment, but realised I'll need to remove the flywheel before I change the cams. If I undo the 6 spline bolts on the flywheel, should the flywheel then just come off by hand or will I need to buy a specific flywheel puller?
  15. Wow that had to be the fastest 3.2 conversion so far! Well done! I went out in Robs last week and it sounded soo good and went really well, you really can feel the power so much earlier can't you. Good luck getting it fi ished off :D
  16. Hey mate, good to see you got the engine out! I'm taking mine out in a week or two. Just got the gearbox off my spare engine, do you know what tools I need to take the cluthh and flywheel off? Can you not just use the 4 19mm bolts that held the box on to mount to the engine stand?

    Mocal Advice

I've got a 25-row mocal cooler with my Rotrex kit from Rob, everythings new except the cooler. Now, I'm thinking that a 25row cooler is a touch overkill when the standard one that comes with the kit is only 10 row. Here's my mammoth 25-row: My plan is to buy this : http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... Track=true and use it with my Rotrex, and then use the 25 row Mocal to cool the engine oil. My question is: This kit comes with a sandwhich plate, does it look like the correct thermostatic one to mate the the VR oil lines, or do I need something different / extra? Thanks,
  18. Mine seems to be doing this too a bit, The first 1-2inches of travel seems "dead". I had a new clutch with fork a couple of months ago so not that I dont think. I got someone to push the pedal a couple of inches down a few times while I listened in the engine bay and there's a creaking noise coming from ontop of the gearbox. Is this the slave on its way out?
  19. OHH the rattles! It's been an ongoing project for a while really, just going round the car seeing which bits are wobbly or have broken clips. You can normally hear where a squeak is coming from TBH so that narrows it down, I've just found some sticky back foam at my parents so I've been sticking that anywhere it'll fit too. The Plastics on the boot lid are a big source of squeaks... Trouble is you fix one squeak and then notice another! I only read about how to fix the windows on here the other day, as apparently new rollers are now obsolete. I just took the doorcard off, put the window about 75% down and just grease the hell out of the rollers and runners and anything else you can find. Seemed to work for me!
  20. Seems like every 'modified' car I see nowadays has a set of black wheels on so it's put me off them big time in the last few weeks. The black-chrome effect I think MK4 Annis have on their RCs is really good though.
  21. Well, it was a busy weekend driving around the country in my mates van, went to see Karl in Brum then down to Rob in Northampton. Was fortunate to have a go out in Robs R32 Rado: Well, that was an experience- sounds amazing and just seemed so tight on the road, absolutely loved it! :D Picked this badboy up, as well as 3 boxes of parts to go with it: Also got a whole room piled up with parts ready to go on including: Newly refurbed engine +box from Karl Spare complete subframe, driveshafts, hubs etc to refurb Devils Own Meth injection AutoTech 262 cams ARP Head and Rod Bolts C2 8.5:1 Head spacer BFI Stage 1 engine mount O2J Shift box and tower Mk4 rears + Hoses + new handbrake cables + A load of little gaskets and replacement bolts, fluids etc Really, really want to get started on this now, but the stupid Volcanic Ash has held the Wavetrac diff GB shipment up, so who knows when that will arrive arghhhh. In the meantime, I've just been going around the car replacing broken clips in the interior and eliminating every rattle I can find. Greased the window runners yesterday and they are now finally silent! The noise of rattley windows has been driving me crazy for months! The only cause of rattles left I think is the Poly rear beam bushes, will look into replacing with standard bushes soon. Think I'll attack the MKIV rears this weekend as my abs has stopped working intermittently, hopefully a good clean of the rear cages will sort it out! Will try and get some more pics up later.

    263 cams

Thanks a lot mate, think I'll get the bolt and sender then. Sure I'll get the sprocket off in one piece :)
  23. I got a set from TPS on Friday, who got it directly from VW I believe!

    263 cams

Hmm, Thanks for the info. I think I'll still try and get a spare cam from someone and get the sprocket from that, can't really afford another 60 odd quid ontop of the mountain of other parts I've got to go on!
