thanks Cressa! I will keep you all updated as I go. Its great to have the support.

thanks Chris! its good to get inspiration. Ah, almost neat.... my mixtures measures are getting stronger each time - seems to be better for getting the stuff off. Yours looks great, nice work, I bet it was a good feeling once it was done.

thanks ChrisL, if you have any other products/ recomendations - I am all ears! I am currently using a brass brush the size of a toothbrush and srubbing the underside with the Surfex HD, then wiping with sponge kitchen scrubers.

Hi all, Had the vehicle for 13 years this year... sitting in a storage for about 10 years, I hadn't started it in 6 years. Some fresh fuel... and it started first turn of the key - couldnt believe it. That decided the fate of the car - it had to be kept. I now have the space to work on it again. My plan is to get the whole underside sorted, fix all the rust and clean the underside ... it is proving to be a big job. These cars are very well undersealed from factory, but with the dirt and moisture in the UK and if its not cleaned, its inevitable.... rust The bits of rust that I am not cutting out, I am treating it with a rust remover. Really recomend the Bilt Hammer Products. Surfex HD for removing all the grime on the underside, you mix this with water as per your requirements. And the Deox-Gel for removing rust. I am putting the Deox-Gel on multiple times to remove the pitted rust. Its gonna be a long road to get this all cleaned up, and new metal put in.

Matt, I have found a source in Poland for this spring. Are you still looking for one? I could order you one, there are like £10 each. I have to send it to Germany, and then to the UK. They only deliver to Germany. I have a mate in Germany who could forward it on. If you want one let me know, and i will try and order an extra..... see how I get on, they say they are in stock..... CM

Thanks Matt, I may have to use a spring website, and see if I can match the OEM spring geometry to another. If I find a replacement, I will post it up here, for others to use.

Hi folks, I am refurbing the back end of the car, and I am looking to replace the return spring on the bias valve for the brakes. Does anyone know where to source one? part number 191201278A. If it comes to it, I will have to count the coils, length, gauge of coil, and go to a spring website and try and find a replacment one. Its a 1.8 16v. Thanks

Hi Oneohtwo, I could try and send out the engineering drawing to machineshops that I know off. I am not sure if they will be interested in the work, as the batch size is so small, and I would need to see the geometry, as the internal reduises might be challenging unless they use a CNC lathe. I will end you a PM, and we can get the ball rolling. CM

I should have also said - good work!
-
Sorry I never knew this was replied to . How did you get on with the testing of thes bushes? Incase you want to get them machined, PTFE is far easier to machine than Nylon and better for holding tight tolerances - Nylon is a pain to machine. I am also aware that 3D printing cannot achieve really tight tolerances. Let me know if you need any assistance I have CAD, and an engineering background. I could also try and try and find a machineshop..... I could ask a few folk that I know

I currently have mine off the car, it looks to be in okay condition. But I did have the thought of what would I do if the joints needed to be replaced. The best route I could think of was creating new rods with spherical bearings at the ends, like rod ends with spherical bearings. What I would say, is don't use cheap spherical bearings.

ah brilliant, I have been reading good things about Bilt Hammer products. Thanks those heat sheilds have come up real nice!

That looks great, its a real pain of a job. I can see why it took 40 hours. I am in the progress of doing mine. So far i have had the most success with a citruis based cleaner liquid. What did you use to get thoses results? apart from plenty of elbow grease....
-
Thanks MooG60, I seen you a PM, yes mine is cracked at the fuel filter mount point, thanks 🙂

Picture attached of the 1.8 16valve black housing that I require

Hi Moog60, yes. I am after the one for the 16valve 1.8 KR engine. I will get a picture of the exact one. Mine is cracked, thanks

I am looking for a Casing for Fuel Pump P/N 535201043. I have attached an image of the housing. CM

ah great! I was just trying to hunt for those bolts. Perfect. I am trying to avoid going to VW, thanks a lot.
-
thanks, that Zap7VW website its a huge help! 👍 going to save me a lot of time. I did look to try and plate them but the heads of the bolts are quiet corroded. I think I will end up getting them replaced. Thanks, appreciated

Hi folks, I am looking to replacing the bolting on the rear and front end of the car. For the front subframe, rear axle, axle studs, retaining axle brakets etc. The current bolts I have are heavily rusted on their heads. Does anyone know what grade of bolts are used, e.g.are they all 8.8 across the whole car? I may have to get a few from VW. My plan was to source most of them myself. Thanks

Looking for an old set of VR 6 calipers to trade in. I am looking to upgrade the 16v ones. Someone may have an old set they want rid off? Thanks

The harder your engine is working the harder your pump spins as its belt runs to the engine, the bearings inside the pump may be past it. The best way to tell if you take the belt of and rotate the pump by hand, if its grinding as you rotate it then you have your answer. By the sounds off it I would get a new pump then take the belt off, sounds like it needs replaced.

If you have never taken a gearbox off before and are planning on doing it on the ground with haxle stands , its not a nice job. If you know someone who has done it before then try and get help of them. Its a heavy brute of a thing to be sitting on your chest while trying to allign it.

They tried to say that hole was already there?! wowzer. Having a friend who works for a franchise I know what it s like, stories off burn outs in customers cars and stories of body shops bodging thing. Its all about the techs "efficiencies", how much money they make for the company. I think you should dig deep, contact VW somehow, surely they cant get away with that £2,500. Shameful.
