Thats a smashing looking car Bill. I was sitting directly opposite a 5 door one (not sure if they come in both 3 and 5 doors or not) in a rather lovely blue in Aberdeen at the weekend. It is the first time in many years that I thought it was a Golf I would really like to own. The last few shapes havent really felt modern in comparison to their contemporaries but this one looks very sharp. Enjoy it when it arrives Dougie

Seeing the prices the guy breaking Corrados in Poland is charging for rusty holed wings recently on Ebay, I cant imagine it being that much cheaper.

Lovely! I have no experience of them, but that bodge of a classic car show "classic car rescue" had one and although a complete lemon, it looked as though one area to look out for was a hidden section in the bulkhead that can rot badly and is v expensive to replace. They look like they are holding good avlue now, but I think the 90's versions are at near rock bottom now and would probably be a better bet in the long run (depending on taste of course). But all in all very classy. Plus you can pretend you are Luke Skywalker in the speeder ;-) Dougie

I genuinely cannot believe that was a candidate for a scrapper. I would imagine that yellow would show up any rust scabs even in photos and unless the underneath is shot that was a fantastic save, especially with the rarity of the colour. Keep us updated on the progress you make

You dont really want the Audi sat nav to be honest....its sheeite! Doesnt allow you to put in a full postcode and ends up forcing you into the centre of the destination town/city if you dont know the address. I have never been in a new Skoda, however having come from a 2006 A4 Avant Tdi170 and into the 2012 A5 sportback, the interior is like night and day, the B7 A4's feel really dated inside, although are still a really nice place to sit. Agreeing with what has been said earlier, I had so much problems with my TDI I dont think I would ever go back to diesel, especially if I was only doing the low miles you are. I would reckon at 130k the Skoda may start to see some of the Tdi issues start to materialise. Mine was going to pot after 70k! As has been said, loading area although flat and straight sided, is not big in the Avant considering its an estate, but it is a good looking car. Hi mate, I had a look at the advert for the grey car, its a late model so although your early wing may fit on, it would not look correct as goldfing3r said, it has more flared arches. I do like the grey car, interested to know why they fitted a manual choke to it? Dougie

Stuart, It is probably better to have a go with the wheel off. At the top if you look at the bracket side on, it is almost "s" shaped. This loops over the top of the beam/hub assembly. It can take quite a bit of force to then push it down enough, so you can clip the bottom part of the bracket on as seen in your second picture. At the moment the loose one will just be being held in place by the brake flexi hose. Hope that made some sense! Dougie

Unless I am looking at these wrong, it should clip on just the same as the the one in the later picture, its the bracket that the rear brake hose goes through on its way to the caliper. I would try and compare them to see if they are definately the same. Dougie

Hi mate, I have just bought (in the last month) a few of these clips from VW heritage.(As I am about to change the foliage cover seal) They took about two weeks to come from da vaterland though. I will look out the part number for you when I get home. Dougie

I would echo the previous post. Apart from possibly the challenge of trying to build something, the old mantra tends to be "dont build what you can buy" If your maybe into too much money for the 16V it might be worth breaking it for spares and using the money to fund the VR purchase. Just my tuppence worth

Is the wobble speed related? And I dont mean just under power or braking. Generally if its wheel balancing the feeling will increse/decrease with speed. Have you jacked the car up and tried both front wheels for play? As has been said earlier check the wheel nuts, but I would also check that both front wheels are seated correctly against the hub/disc. Unsure of the set up on the VR, but could a possible suspect be the balljoints? If everything seems ok underneath, you could swap the fronts and rears just to take the wheels/tyres out the equation. Get it seen to as soon as bud, you dont want a wheel flying off at any sort of speed. Dougie
