  1. Yeah get that corner up in the air and spin the wheel by hand. The splash shield rubbing on a particular point is quite common. I've also had it when I just had new tyres fitted. The chimps at ProTyre fitted the weights right in line with the caliper, and it was just catching the top edge on every revolution.
  2. Thats a good point actually Kip, I'd kind of overlooked that! :embarrassed: The single sided stuff is what I've been looking at to be honest. It's probably the only stuff I'll be able to source that will work relatively well anyway by the sound of it. There's plenty on ebay and provided its not to dense or thick, it should work well and stick nicely. I can cable tie it up every ft or so anyway to keep some tension there and ensure it doesn't unwrap as soon as its in!
  3. I'm becoming what I despise, and that is being negative about everything. I feel you'll be hard pushed to achieve all that in the time frame, but I do apologise for the negativity. Good luck and I applaud your enthusiasm for detailing. :thumbleft:
  4. Already have the loom tape James. Just need the foam now to help stop rattling and for the OE look.
  5. Getting the car back next week and the first job is to replace the entire interior wiring loom. As with most things, after 20 years its seen better days and has crumbled away almost entirely. Anyone know where I can get some replacement stuff, or what its actually called as I'm struggling to find it? Dimensions of the original stuff would be nice too, but not critical. Thanks all!
  6. That too James! That what I spend in products alone doing a two stage mop and wax.
  7. All of that including 3 stage mop in 6 hours???.......................
  8. Well I won't be burning it, but I'll keep hold of it in the folder. Won't add to the price, but its these little things that add up and show a car has been appreciated by previous owners. Incidentally, whats gonna happen to the CCGB tax disc holders now? Got one in the folder too, but will they be making expensive beer mats from now on? Worth sticking em on ebay whoever has them all, probably gone up in price as they are almost literally "scene tax holders" now!
  9. Thanks chaps, typical that I've not been doing much at work the last couple of weeks, but I start courses again non stop from the 13th until April. Mic, I've got quite a bit to be getting on with before its back on the road. An entire interior loom to fit, new bits and pieces all over the car, pretty much a full ABS system replacement, and 288mm front brake upgrade. Probably won't be back on the road until Christmas. :(
  10. It's very fiddly but do-able. Hardest bit is removing the little retaining screw. Have a look in the wiki, there's a guide iirc.
  11. Update! Had a call from the body shop at lunch today, she's almost finished! Body has been completed, just bonnet and tailgate left to do, then windows to go in. Wish they'd have taken more pics along the way for me, but have to drop of the windscreen trim tomorrow so I'll get some then. It'll be ready for the end of next week apparently. Can't wait to see it and get it home!!!!!!!
  12. Sorry to hear this mate. No idea what it could be though, bit beyond my knowledge. If you need anything let me know and I'll help where I can mate. :thumbleft:
  13. Welcome Tom! Look forward to seeing some pics. The uprated headlight loom is just that. The standard loom drops around 2v before hitting the headlights as it takes a long way round. The uprated version goes directly from the battery via a couple of relays so you get minimal voltage drop. Chances are though if it's an old one that's been cut and spliced in, it'll be the cause of your main beam not working. Worth removing it and reinstating the original and go from there. Have a look in the wiki section on how to make your own, or the suppliers forum for good pre-deployment ones which will plug straight in. :thumbleft:
  14. Different system on the Golf unfortunately. There are a few on ebay around the £50 mark, but probably find one cheaper here by asking in the wanted and breaking sections. There are a few companies who refurbish them too but not particularly cheap, although probably your best option in the long run.
  15. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-CORRADO-G60-TSR-2L-8V-BAHN-BRENNER-SUPERCHARGER-KONI-BREMBO-SCHRICK-282BHP-/191355326259?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item2c8daa8f33
  16. The oil pressure rises with revs as the pump is driven by the intermediate shaft. As the oil gets hot it thins as well. Start by changing the oil temp sensors. Sounds like its the low pressure sensor that may be suspect, but they're not too expensive so worth changing both. Also check the wire and spade connector as they corrode and fray over time. Other than that, drop the sump and check the pick up gauze isn't blocked, and the sump baffle plate isn't swinging about blocking it intermittently as the securing clips break off. Other than those and wiring, the only other thing really is the clocks.
  17. Arrived today thanks Chris. Top seller, thanks pal! :thumbleft:
  18. I agree. DVLA are apparently saving £40 Mil by doing this. That coupled with all that extra revenue from the sales throughout the month means they're quids in. Tax won't stop going up though, in fact with monthly DD, I think it'll go up quite a lot in the next few years. People just won't notice it as much due to the fact it's not in one big hit, so won't complain.
  19. The characteristics of the VR are quite low torque below 3.5k rpm, that said I'd still say it's on par with an abf. Being a heavy lump it doesn't have to turn in precision of the others either, but again something doesn't sound right. The fact it has been lowered so much and now has been raised, suggests suspension and alignment setup is probably way out. It's a sad fact that when buying a quite heavily modified car, you really need to know what to look for. Not many do it the right way unfortunately, then flog it on when they realise they've built a dog to an unsuspecting buyer.
  20. The fabric fraying is is pretty much a given tbh. I can't remember if its obsolete from VW, but it was sold by the metre iirc. There are lots of alternatives around so probably worth just having a mooch around for covered fuel line of the correct inner diameter.
  21. Thanks mate, appreciate it. :thumbleft:
  22. Yes please mate. Mine have 'additional' screw holes all over the bloody place.
  23. Michael, I'll have the dash trims and fuse box cover, and also the hose bundle if your still down this way in December? Happy to pay now if you prefer mate. Cheers!
