  1. The third one is near the abs pump. The first two are on the heatshield behind the exhaust manifold which I'm assuming are the ones you've found. Rob, I think you mean the nuts holding the dash in.
  2. I wouldn't recommend it. They don't call them widow makers for nothing! If you jack it up as far as you can, as long as you use some for of support underneath like an axle stand or even a couple of breeze blocks, you should be able to do it yourself. As mentioned the bit that screws into the ARB can become pretty well attached though! Thats the only issue you may have anyway.
  3. No, a couple of 13mm and a 15 or 17mm spanners is all you need mate. The ARB end can sometimes be a real pain to get off. If you have a grinder it makes it easier!
  4. Its ok to drive if you're careful, though not ideal. The VW item is semi permanent clamp and needs the tool to ensure its tight. something like this. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CAR-ATV-FITS-99-OF-VEHICLES-CV-BOOT-CLAMPS-PAIR-X-2-EAR-PLIERS-/111893453867?hash=item1a0d5e9c2b:g:kN8AAOSwoydWsINm Its not totally packed full of grease but obviously most of it has come out, so try to get a fair bit in. Its meant to be tight anyway so a bit of persuasion with the screwdriver would be fine, just be careful not to pierce it.
  5. Thats better. Yeah the drop link has snapped (its all one piece). I'd replace both as the other side is probably past its best. They're inexpensive and dead easy to fix, and packing a little grease in the CV and putting a clip on is very cheap and easy too. Any garage shouldn't charge much more than £100 for parts and labour to do it all mate.
  6. Its difficult to make out with all the grease, but it looks like your ARB drop link isn't attached there. Check the other side and you'll see how it should be. The grease is from where the CV boot isn't tight. The grease is packed inside that rubber boot, and if its split or not tight like that, the revolutions of the drive shaft will fling it out everywhere! It looks like its relatively clean grease, so may have happened recently (pointing finger at the guy who was fiddling with it................ possibly), as anyone who knows cars would have noticed the drop link not attached if in fact it isn't, and diagnosed the problem as that. It would certainly cause clunking and poor front end handling if its not on. I'd also get some CV grease, pack it inside as much as you can, and at least get a cable tie around it temporarily.
  7. Here is the data sheet And here is what I got the Storm code from. Its taken from Facebook but I've edited it to remove the owner and chassis number as its not mine to show.
  8. If you go on the wolfsburg auto Museum website, there should be a page on there somewhere. I'll put the links up when I get home if you like. It's not cheap, but adds to the history of the vehicle and it was a price I was willing to pay for knowing! I got the data sheet too which if I'm honest, I wouldn't recommend paying the extra for. I'll post a pic of that later too to show what it includes, which isn't any more than is in the back of the owners manual.
  9. Thanks again chaps. Mint, no. Concourse, definitely not! Show n shine winner - with a good set of wheels, definitely possible. I won't be entering in that sort of thing though, it's not really my thing. I'm happy knowing I've got a good car and although I've got about 7k invested in it, if I ever decided to sell its not gonna be a huge amount under that I'll get for it. Over the 4 years I've owned it, I could have spent a whole lot more on other hobbies!
  10. Thanks Gents, I do appreciate it. I'm happy with my lot don't get me wrong. Just would have been nice to think I may have had one of the first Storms produced, and would have been a positive outcome to the mystery that surrounded it previously!
  11. The 'W' after the 10 stands for Winter, or its viscosity when cold so as long as you don't go down lower than that it'll be fine and you shouldn't have any problems when starting from cold as far as bottom end is concerned. I run Fuchs Titan Pro Race 10W 50 in mine and as mentioned, it has reduced the noise a little, but not much.
  12. Think the S4 are V6T aren't they? Lovely car, would love one of these though doubt it would be too practical! lol.
  13. I don't think E8R appears on the boot sticker. I compared mine to Rog Chatfields old Mystic Storm and aside from the paint code, the rest were identical to his. I'm just going from a Certificate that someone posted on the Storm Owners Register group on Facebook.
  14. Well the Zertifikat and data sheet arrived. The "Extra" codes should be; E8R - Special Edition Storm WA3 - Comfortline Great Britain None of those present. A little gutted but kind of expected. Not sure if I should just go and remove the badges now though! lol Its taken 4 years but at least I've finally got to the bottom of it. As mentioned in one of the first posts on this thread, it was originally registered to the dealership so I reckon they put the badges on and had it in the showroom for a kind of "look whats coming" type thing. Oh well, onwards and upwards!
  15. As mentioned, you can go as big as 17" easily enough as long as it's not "slammed". 50 profile for 15" wheels, 45 for 16" and 40 for 17". It's the stud pattern and offset you need to worry about. 5x100 is correct, and an offset/wheel width take some thinking about. 6.5" width with an offset of 43 is standard, I run 7.5" on an offset of 35 without issue. Hubcentric spacers may be required if the offset is lower but be wary of wheel width there.

  18. Yeah its the original green steel. Have a look in Suppliers forum I think, where his original thread is. There are quite a few people who have bought them on here and only have good things to say!
  19. 6 originally, although I think only 3 can now be accounted for. One was definitely broken for parts as the interior was in a G60, but the owner sold the interior on again via Facebook recently.
  20. Can't believe you sold them on so quickly! Between these and LMs, are my favourite wheel by a country mile over anything else!
  21. I'm on a laid up policy as mine expired last month, and I doubt it'll see the road this year. I phoned around quite a few places, and all were almost exactly the same price - £126. In all honesty, its not that much less than a standard policy and none offered cover for damage (ie; if the garage roof fell in on it!) - it was just for fire or theft. The fact that the garage mine is in is detached, and its on axle stands with no running gear means it can't really be pinched anyway! - made me seriously consider just getting a normal policy on the off chance that it would be road worthy. I'd rather have at least something in place though, and just went with it. I went through Adrian Flux again as my previous policy was with them, and they obviously had all details so I didn't need to do anything other than pay. As mentioned, every other company I tried quoted exactly the same, so I think it may be a minimum figure based on the value as they all asked that question. (I said £7k).
