  1. I looked into a chips away franchise a few years back when I thought I would be medically pensioned off, and even went up for an open day/demo. They were pushing me toward Exeter and I managed to track down an ex franchisee from that area that warned me off of them (though I told him I'd be based in Plymouth). I figured you'd need to be in a slightly more affluent area to be able to make a decent living though, as the vast majority would just go through insurance or "live with" minor dents and scrapes.
  2. The windows are held into the mechanism by clamps, check one hasn't loosened off and also that the cables to the motor are still intact. You should be able to see what's going on by removing the door cards and comparing the up and down movement between them.
  3. Go for it Mick! I'm leaving my current job the day after I turn 40 (5 years left of a 22 year career!), as I'm able to claim a full pension from that date. I'm looking at doing the same, and as you mentioned its a long time to carry on working so I don't see the problem at all in starting a new career. You obviously have to weigh up you options with regard to what you fancy trying your hand at, and the uncertainty surrounding self-employment for guaranteed work (especially around certain times of year!). Basically, its being able to afford to do what you set out to, and finding the right job that'll offer you an income that you are comfortable with when you offset against the quiet periods if you go down the self-employment route. Good luck with what-ever you decide mate! :thumbleft:
  4. I'd just use the standard ones Phil. These are for the X-member that sit in front of the subframe, and act as the kind of front engine support beam. They're a pain to get in, but its not something you're ever likely to have to change again. I can't remember where I got mine from, possibly AVS spares but they're cheap as chips - much cheaper than the Powerflex ones anyway, and tbh its unlikely to make any noticeable difference at all. Your choice though mate, good luck with the rest of the refurb, I'll be moving to the front when I eventually get the underside clean and finish the rear!
  5. The Campaign is a bit of a Unicorn car for me. Almost a myth, and I've never seen one. I love the exclusivity of it, and I actually like the interior colour. I think its a little over the top with the dash and steering wheel, but the rest I find almost quite tasteful............. I was looking at a Range Rover Evoque last week (looking at a replacement for the 1 Series), and it had Pimento red leather bucket seats, which I found positively sexual! Maybe thats just me though...................... http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201612120536504?model=RANGE%20ROVER%20EVOQUE&make=LAND%20ROVER&radius=100&sort=price-asc&postcode=pl99jn&price-from=27500&advertising-location=at_cars&onesearchad=Used&onesearchad=Nearly%20New&onesearchad=New&price-to=30000&page=1
  6. Agree that's a lot of car for the money. If the person who bought it was capable and had the means to do the bodywork, they'd be laughing!

  8. Just got back from the dealer and I had the exact same thing Jim! Think I'll try an alternative at that price. Thursdave is excellent and discount is very good if you can collect, but not much more than the 10% discount I get locally if I factor in delivery costs unfortunately. I can get the 3M stuff for around £15 which I may now look further into. Thanks Jim! :thumbleft:

    Roof gutter trim

Haha, I'm sure the expats in the middle east dry states use it for just that sort of thing!

It's all just isopropyl alcohol. Used by bodyshops after tack cloths to ensure surfaces are dust and grease free prior to painting.
  11. Cheers Chris. Just praying the certificate and data sheet I've ordered from VW auto Museum confirms it's a genuine Storm now! Lol. Should find out in a couple of months when it finally arrives!
  12. Go on then please Chris. PM me payment info. Cheers!
  13. How much was the 1L tub then? I'm quite concerned about aesthetics, hence the reason I keep banging on about the colour, so what is it like compared to the original grey/beige? I'm at the dealership tomorrow so I can ask about price then, but don't want to get it if its nothing like the original stuff as its just for a few (quite a few actually) spot repairs. If its good, I can decant a bit, leave it to thicken up then brush it on. Thats the idea anyway.........

    Reiger

In fact, it's double female so could be rear beam ones?.......

Looks like it 280mm as it says G60 on the pic with them in the bag.
  16. More likely the rod/mechanism not engaging properly, or the plastic linking part.
  17. I've just had a little look online Jim, thats the correct original part number but I've read a thread on Club GTI that its been discontinued. Its apparently been superseded by PN# D314 D36 M2 which is grey. A little more digging uncovered that there are also D37 (satin black), and D38 (White) which are all now water based. I'm not sure if grey or white would be best now........ By all means give em a ring tomorrow if you like Jim. Just let us all know how you get on! :thumbleft: Thanks mate, appreciate it.
  18. Ok thanks Chris. I'll enquire when I'm in picking up my other bits on Friday if its still available.
  19. Chris, Jim, thanks gents. Chris, I think the dinitrol is spray on only though isn't it? I know the grey stripe is seam sealer, but isn't it pretty much the same as the underseal? Jim, I'll look a bit more into it. I want to be able to feather it into the existing stuff, so thin may be better, but I need it a bit thicker for coverage where any is removed. Good to know its brushable though. I think I'll enquire into how much it is from VW first though! Do you know if its grey/beige or is that the wax on top?
  20. May seem like a daft question, but I'm thinking of getting the UPOL Grey Stripe to do a few spot repairs on my underside. I want it as close a match to the original stuff as possible, and rather than just get the VW stuff that requires an air line and gun, the brushable stuff is much thicker and dries quicker apparently. But............ Is it actually Grey!? I think that is what the VW stuff is, or is it just the wax on the surface that gives it the grey/beige appearance? Thanks all!
  21. I don't think they're overly important tbh Jim. Always nice if you can get it all there though. I'm picking the rest up Friday and dropping a load of stuff off for zinc plating so it would have been nice if these were included, but my current ones are actually complete (if a little rusty) after 22 years and 150k miles, so should last I suppose. I just can't get them off without completely ruining them!
  22. For anyone after these Passat covers in future, I've ordered them today but they're on back order. No idea how long it'll be until I get them.
  23. Disregard, I've just looked at Cressas pic. Not sure if mine is in place now..........
  24. Isn't that part usually plastic welded/riveted onto the upper shelf/cover?
