  1. I got the spring from VW in April last year, part number 1h0612337 and it came with the sleeves. I've got a load of new bolts for my Underside, but as these aren't load bearing I'm just going to use stainless bolts and nylocs on them. I too got the compensator valve from eBay, about £65 iirc. All my lines came out without a problem but I'm replacing them all anyway. I had the rear beam off to remove the valve, but there was absolutely no way on earth the bolts were coming out without grinding off the captive nuts. I even put the valve in a vice and smashed the **** out of the bolts after it was off just to see, and they didn't move a bit!
  2. Haha, you certainly were. I got the rears from VW heritage. They're in the process of reproduction for the fronts as left side is obsolete. I have a genuine right one but waiting for them to get em out there!
  3. Yeah it's in the Base of the antenna. http://the-corrado.net/showthread.php?42763-Bypassing-the-aerial-amplifier
  4. John speaketh the truth! Just searched "fiat 500 aerial" and the first thing that popped up was a Base. Looks exactly the same and as mentioned, has the correct connector too. Well done JB! :thumbleft:
  5. Nice one, best of luck and hope you don't run in to too many problems!
  6. It's time consuming but not difficult. Removing trim etc helps for access, and you'll be able to trace it easier if you can see where it's going, so in fact it becomes quite a simple job until/if you find problems.
  7. You've probably got a short or cross connection somewhere. I had similar where I could the ignition off, but the car would continue running if the lights were on. My entire wiring throughout was a fire waiting to happen so I pretty much replaced every loom on the car. I'm not suggesting yours is the same, but I'd disconnect the battery and trace the wiring from the blower switch all the way to the fuse box, and do the same with the ignition switch. You may find it, and you may find other wiring bodges along the way. Repair what you can by soldering and heatshrink, or get an auto sparky to do the same as it'll be an accident waiting to happen mate.
  8. I don't think the amplifier is very effective at all anyway. Have a look in the wiki section as there is a guide on how to bypass it, but you'll be able to tell if yours is amplified by comparing it to the pics.
  9. I'd love one too. If I had the funds it'd have to be either a 964 or 993 though.
  10. Picked the Passat ones up today, and they're perfect! In fact, I'd say they're exactly the same. Some pics, although maybe a little hard to make out in the second pic. Oooohhhh, shiny! So, for anyone needing them in the near future, I'd get them whilst you can. They're on back order but only took about a week to arrive so likely from within the UK, but who knows when they'll become obsolete like so many other items from cars of this era. Part numbers on first pic and in a previous post by the very helpful Will-I-am the man!
  11. The sun is out in Plymouth. Just putting that out there......
  12. You'll need to be prepared to travel to find one tbh. The fact is that the vr6 sold so well, so there are also generally more to choose from. Where are you located?
  13. Welcome Tony. Having owned a 1.8 16v and a VR6, I can tell you that performance is night and day between them. The valver also had a gas flowed head so a little over standard. Your budget should get you a pretty reasonable vr6 too and there are more parts available now. My experience of the 2.0 16v wasn't very good. I only drove one when looking for a short time, but I was pretty disappointed by the performance. Good luck with your search!

    Rear Bumper

Incorrect! I had to tow the missus in her Saab 9-3 SS a couple of years ago! Really wish I would have thought to get a photo! Lol. Just to put it out there again, she put petrol in the diesel car...............twice in a fortnight! :bonk:
  15. Look like covers or they've been poorly retrieved. Very baggy on all the bolsters
  16. It's recommended for the fibre gasket but shouldn't be used for the rubber one.
  17. Ah sorry, I mis-read what you put and jumped straight in. They are indeed smart repairs. PDR as you suggest can be good provided you have the network of local places like you who call them in. With this though, I think you need to be familiar with the trade and have a foot in, or have a bit more experience than someone just starting out for it to be so lucrative. That's not to say it can't be done, but it's less likely if you're a newbie!
  18. I looked into a chips away franchise a few years back when I thought I would be medically pensioned off, and even went up for an open day/demo. They were pushing me toward Exeter and I managed to track down an ex franchisee from that area that warned me off of them (though I told him I'd be based in Plymouth). I figured you'd need to be in a slightly more affluent area to be able to make a decent living though, as the vast majority would just go through insurance or "live with" minor dents and scrapes.
  19. The windows are held into the mechanism by clamps, check one hasn't loosened off and also that the cables to the motor are still intact. You should be able to see what's going on by removing the door cards and comparing the up and down movement between them.
  20. Go for it Mick! I'm leaving my current job the day after I turn 40 (5 years left of a 22 year career!), as I'm able to claim a full pension from that date. I'm looking at doing the same, and as you mentioned its a long time to carry on working so I don't see the problem at all in starting a new career. You obviously have to weigh up you options with regard to what you fancy trying your hand at, and the uncertainty surrounding self-employment for guaranteed work (especially around certain times of year!). Basically, its being able to afford to do what you set out to, and finding the right job that'll offer you an income that you are comfortable with when you offset against the quiet periods if you go down the self-employment route. Good luck with what-ever you decide mate! :thumbleft:
  21. I'd just use the standard ones Phil. These are for the X-member that sit in front of the subframe, and act as the kind of front engine support beam. They're a pain to get in, but its not something you're ever likely to have to change again. I can't remember where I got mine from, possibly AVS spares but they're cheap as chips - much cheaper than the Powerflex ones anyway, and tbh its unlikely to make any noticeable difference at all. Your choice though mate, good luck with the rest of the refurb, I'll be moving to the front when I eventually get the underside clean and finish the rear!
  22. The Campaign is a bit of a Unicorn car for me. Almost a myth, and I've never seen one. I love the exclusivity of it, and I actually like the interior colour. I think its a little over the top with the dash and steering wheel, but the rest I find almost quite tasteful............. I was looking at a Range Rover Evoque last week (looking at a replacement for the 1 Series), and it had Pimento red leather bucket seats, which I found positively sexual! Maybe thats just me though...................... http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201612120536504?model=RANGE%20ROVER%20EVOQUE&make=LAND%20ROVER&radius=100&sort=price-asc&postcode=pl99jn&price-from=27500&advertising-location=at_cars&onesearchad=Used&onesearchad=Nearly%20New&onesearchad=New&price-to=30000&page=1
  23. Agree that's a lot of car for the money. If the person who bought it was capable and had the means to do the bodywork, they'd be laughing!

  25. Just got back from the dealer and I had the exact same thing Jim! Think I'll try an alternative at that price. Thursdave is excellent and discount is very good if you can collect, but not much more than the 10% discount I get locally if I factor in delivery costs unfortunately. I can get the 3M stuff for around £15 which I may now look further into. Thanks Jim! :thumbleft:
