  1. 8) 8) Ha ha only 7 years to finally get spotted!!!!!
  2. No. The early switches are smaller than the later ones. The are not as wide. When used in a later dash they do not clip into place like the later ones. They just flap about in the dash. Sorry if some of my switch info was a bit wide of the mark - every day's a school day!! 8)
  3. I did realise the bloke wasn't the actual drink-driver but it is a problem and if they'd got a taxi home none of this discussion would be going on. I agree his actual charge of 'drink driving' does seem to go against common sense with him being a passenger, surely they could have charged him with something else that was more appropriate but serious enough to warrent punishment? Who knows?
  4. Oh drink driving isn't a problem then?? Reported Road Casualties in Great Britain: 2008 estimates for accidents involving illegal alcohol levels This release includes provisional statistics on accidents involving drinking and driving in Great Britain in 2008, according to the arrangements approved by the UK Statistics Authority. The figures also include final estimates for 2007. Figures show that: Fatalities resulting from drink drive accidents rose by 5 per cent from 410 in 2007 to 430 in 2008, whilst seriously injured casualties fell by 7 per cent from 1,760 to 1,630. Slight casualties resulting from drink drive accidents also fell by 7 per cent from 11,850 to 10,970. Total casualties fell by 7 per cent from 14,020 to 13,020. There was an increase of 3 per cent in fatal accidents from 370 to 380. Overall drink and drive accidents fell by 7 per cent from 9,280 to 8,640. I'm sure the living casualties that weren't drunk drivers would disagree. Get an accurate perspective http://www.dft.gov.uk/pgr/statistics/da ... drinkdrive

  7. Probably ally alloy like aircraft ones 8)
  8. Did similar myself 8) So you have a late dash and centre console? I think the early dash switches will fit, which saves swapping all the plugs, you'll need late heater dials for the late centre console which is easier than making them fit an early console IIRC. You will need new window switches as they fit in the doorpods not straight in the door card. You then have the choice of sourcing window looms to plug in the fusebox or rewiring the plugs into the old loom. If you swap plugs only, you will have to swap the wires on the mirror motors if you want them to operate logically ie not back-to-front. I'm just living with mine but I'll probably swap them sometime.....probably! Mirror switch wiring guidance HERE as there are 6 wires instead of 5 and the colours are slightly different. You will also need late door opening levers and surrounds, late door grab handles and the late mirror switch that fits in the driver's grab handle (sometimes you can get the handle complete with switch) Also the grab handles have the same insert as the early grab handles but it's nice to get newer bits - be aware the handles don't always get sold with the inserts :nono: Have fun - I did!!

  10. Check your light fitting, my 1990 original had a switch built in, now got an led strip on the right because of the sub box on the left - sorted 8)
  11. Do a search for heater matrix mate - sounds like yours needs changing pronto.

That's pants mate if the MFA is correct.... With a spacesaver on I did 85 miles 50:50 motorway:A&B roads trying to stay under 50mph and got 48mpg on the MFA. 8) EDIT: usually 30-35 mpg
  15. I believe the crystal fogs and indicators are by Inpro IIRC

    D'you mean the rubbing strips/protectors?
  18. ^^^^ What Jim said rather than gunking up by-pass valves etc
  19. Biggest problem with the entire judical system is the lack of consistency. :cuckoo:
  20. Indeed yes! I had a bit of a crack in the drivers lens which was why I originally got the plastic protectors. Having taken all the light assembly apart to clean and Lamin-X I had the opportunity to glue up the crack for strength and then seal it good and proper with the Blue optic. I had my brother in the car early the other evening, twilighty, and flashed someone coming the other way and my brother was convinced I'd left my mainbeam on  - as I've said nice and white 8)
  21. Whatever yanks yer chain! :norty: :norty:
  22. Originally did it with 3-in-1 citrus degreaser agitated with a nylon brush then clean off with water. I got a bit of bubbling as expected when I applied the 12v current but it was very fine and not very effective! The current barely registered on the charger's ammeter, :camp: it wasn't exactly 4-6amps like I expected  Using a car battery as well may have made a difference, I'll try with the mk3 calipers when they come off, they're steel so it maybe a better result, be nice if I can get it to work, could try some rusty tools i guess, must have some somewhere!!
  23. 30012010718 (Large).jpg[/attachment:130yevw0] Compare that with my sig. pic and you can see the subtle tint difference, the blue looks bluer when it's not so sunny!!
  24. Just so's you know :epicfail: with just a Halfords battery charger - as it was raining the next day and I couldn't be ar$ed with digging out a battery from a car I just lecky drill and wirebrushed it!  Got some special paint primer on them and then they're getting the Hammerite treatment! 8)
