Dont give up on it mine was written of and is technically a Cat D. But i was offered 2.2k by the other insurance company and i only paid 1.7k for the car, so i took it and used it for a complete respray. Thing is anyone looking to buy a corrado with be an enthusiast and will appreciate a car thats been well maintained and looked after written of or not.

 

 

Also a little tip before the assessor comes to look at it give that car the best dam clean its ever had.

In some instances, the insurance company will have already spoken to their approved body shop. Many of them just can't be arsed with older cars anymore as it means they actually have to use some skill, rather than simply throwing new panels on.

I feel for you, had the same when a bin lorry reversed into my car and their insurance company wanted to write my car off. Is upplied plenty of before and after pics, links to autotrader showing how few were avaliable and eventually they agreed to the repair. Don't give up too soon. Keep pushing them.

ask for a cash in lieu settlement. Mine has a Reiger front bumper on it which my neighbour reversed into and destroyed. the specialist insurance company couldn't find anyone prepared to do custom work so wanted to write it off, which I refused. I found a bodyshop to do the work and was quoted close to 2k to do it so the insurance company wanted again to write it off, again I refused to accept this especially as the other party had accepted liability, so they offered me a cash in lieu of repairs settlement meaning it wasn't written off I got a cheque to the value of the estimate and was able to go wherever I wanted for the repair and also if I wanted use second hand parts

^ Good point, the bumper also having parking sensors which weren't factory fit should also give leverage for a bit more ££

Hello!

 

Well I have some REALLY good news :D

 

The valuation company called to say they agreed their initial offer did not reflect the true value of the car. They now placed it somewhere between 2.5 and 3.5 times the amount of their first offer and following my photographic evidence of her condition this was likely in the higher end. This made her repairable!!!

 

I've just spoken to the repair shop who called to say the repair has been authorised and I should have her back in in under two weeks :dance:

 

I cannot stress how happy I am about this.

 

In case anyone ever ends up in the same situation and finds this thread:

Corrado was deemed uneconomical to repair - offered trade value of the car - Refused.

 

I wrote an email that included the following:

-Attached photographs of my recent receipt for purchase of the vehicle (proving total paid and mileage)

-A link to the current Auto-trader listings, thankfully including a couple of similar mileage and condition.

-A link to the "how many left" website listing the number of identical models are currently licensed/SORN

-Two recent photographs of the vehicle to portray its condition (inside and out)

-I also explained how the car was bought as an investment, that their increasing rarity will only result in the value eventually increasing.

-I ended the email with a few quotes from the Financial Ombudsman's website ("technical notes regarding vehicle valuation") That stated the vehicle should be assumed to be in higher end of the value scale if it was recent purchased from a dealer and that owner should be compensated in such a way that they should be able purchase another vehicle almost identical to the one stolen or damaged.

 

I cant wait to have her back now, thank you for all the advice and kind comments I've received, I look forward to many happy posts in future.

Just read this whole thread and was about to offer online hugs and say stick to your guns mate and insist you get your car back to how it was. But it seems that is not needed and you have good news, nice.

 

keep us up to date and as you said this is not the first post you wanted to make but I hope it has been an insight into how helpful, understanding and supportive this place is. My first post on here was probably pointless but over time I have learned loads on here and have gained confidence to do some things beyond what I thought I could on the car. Anyway, like I said keep us posted :)

Only just catching up on the forum so missed this thread.

 

I couldn't believe that the damage was bad enough for a write off. So happy for you that the outcome has been positive. We'll be expecting some after pics now :)

 

Also, the other guys that have posted their damaged cars that have been repaired - wow! It's great that they're being saved, I see so few Corrados (or Sciroccos) on the road today :(

I think I'll call the repair shop tomorrow for an update on estimated completion, planning to book her in for an early interim service as a treat when she gets out ;-) like booking her a spa day!

 

Brunty, I agree it's great people bring these cars back. I know of two other Cs in my village but other than that I rarely see them. I passed a Scirocco a few months back, first one I've seen for a few years.

H DPS, have just stumbled onto this thread, not havving a Corrado (which is worse than having a damaged one!) these days mean fewer visits to this wonderful forum. I went thru exactly what you had to, oddly enough in an automatic VR6 as well altho i had tp deal with it in Spanish as well as i was living out there at the time.
