You'll need a Hazet Tool. There may be a plastic one in your car's toolkit or around the bonnet stay. Looks like a long plastic cylinder with some notches cut out of one end. Ideally you want a metal one as the plastic one's quite flimsy. VW Dealers are a little reluctant to sell them to Joe Public. Try the local dealers first or Eurocarparts. Here's some contact details if you're stuck (copied from a previous thread) Hazet Part No. T10029 phone 01446721300 to order one(but might take up to 2 wks to come from germany) Good Luck!

I know the dash bulb's definately not a fuse, as the rest of the clocks light up ok. The ashtray light works but the little green ring around the lighter doesn't. So I'd guess the bulbs gone there. When I take the bulb out of the heater knob, I can see the element's broken. But the bulb is sooo tiny, there's no part number on it. Glovebox light worked two months ago. Doubt it has a fuse of its own. Good place to start though I suppose Supercharged. :)

So any bulb works? Are they al the same fitting, or have you soldered or butchered the connections somehow? Cheers Mike
-
Henny. Can you list the types of bulbs used in the clocks? Ie. 2 x 1.8v or whatever for the LCDS. 4 x 1.6v for the clocks. The bulb behind my MFA display's dead and I may as well change the all while I'm fixing it. '95 VR6 Cheers Mike

Hi, Has anyone got the part no's for the following bulbs? Or better still, their size and type so I can get them from Maplin's. I've tried to order them from GPC but they can't help without the no's. Instrument cluster bulbs (one behind MFA's gone) Bulb behind the middle Heater Control Knob. (VW only list entire unit!) Bulb for cigarette lighter (not ashtray as it lights up ok) Bulb for glove box (haven't looked but probably a standard bulb) Many Thanks Mike

I travelled over 800 miles from Belfast to Huntington and back to find my Corrado. Luckily the seller was up front about it over the phone and e-mailed me some pictures. :)

Just been out in my mate's Edition One G60 Golf and gotta say it held onto corners like no tomorrow. Having said that, he said he'd quite happily swap it for my VR6. He loves the way it pulls in every gear and does some three wheel action on the real baaad corners

I'm running 70/30 G12+ coolant and distilled water. Noticed the temp has dropped by approx 5 degrees when driving the VR6 hard.

Good thinkin' Sandy

The "blinder" itself goes in behind the grille. It's control unit goes anywhere you want. (probably under the bonnet or in the boot) There's a little LED, much like an alarm's one, which can be placed anywhere around the inside of the car and the buzzer can be hidden anywhere too. The on/off switch can go under the steering column or somewhere equally inconspicuous. In otherwords, without looking under the bonnet, Plod won't see sh%t.
-
Hmmm, It has a visual and sound warning in the cockpit as well as on off switch. The idea being, as soon as it goes off, one slams the anchors on and switches it off once one is at the correct speed. Plod will then get a reading at the legal speed. Laser's are normally setup on long straight stretches of road anyway, so one would have ample warning to slow down and with being so distant, they'll assume a false reading (hopefully) Apparently the Blinder does not cause laser guns to indicate they've been jammed. (see the review link) Interesting area of debate though. Basicaly, if you drive with a jammer on constantly you're gonna get scooped. The light spectrum is excempt from licensing for broadcasting over its wavelengths (otherwise Laurence Llwelyn Bowen would be arrested for his dress sense) So you can't be prosecuted for unlicensed broadcasting. The signal from a laser gun doesn't contain any information. So you can't be prosecuted for intercepting or interferring with the signal. If pulled over, do the Police have a legal right to search your car, check under the bonnet etc?? Mike

Hi there, I've been offered one of these babies pretty cheap.... Blinder M10-Twin Review here.... http://www.ukspeedtraps.co.uk/blinder.htm Just wondering if anyone else has tried one??

Trouble is, my mate's car IIRC had no official service history from 60k :( Do the DVLA keep records of mileage from MOTs? (Thanks for sorting the link Henny  )

"I like it alot!" 8) 8) Might have to purchase one of those for the next trackday :D

Cool, Just found this G60 advertised locally on Autotrader's site... CLICK HERE 83,000 miles?? Funny that! It showed over 150,000 miles when my mate sold it before Xmas for £1000.  *mod edit - shortened link for you 'cos it was HUGE! - Henny*

Nothing to do with my own car but... Does anyone know what action to take if you think a car has been clocked or if someone is selling a clocked car?? Who does one contact? The police, trading standards??

I'm interested in the Smoked In-Pros. You have PM Tempest

These guys do uprated mounts too. http://www.turn2usa.com

I'll take two as well please.

I'm interested in the Shield Starter Kit John. Will using this kit restore my Flash Red paint to its original lustre? At the moment the paintwork really lets the car down.
-
Yes Jim. Maybe I should sort out a wee Belfast Reminder? 8) 8) Just kidding! Oh, it's MikeVR6 now BTW :)

Nice one mate. :) Bet you can't stop :) :) :) :) Health to Drive!

Bigger the wheels - Worse the handling ?
MikeVR6 replied to belfastfumanchu's topic in General Car Chat
Belfastfumanchu When I was buying the Speedline wheels that are on your car, I did lots of research into this topic. Having had 17's on my previous car, I knew how badly they transmitted bumps etc into the cabin. I found 16's to be the best compromise between looks and handling. With 205/45/R16 tyres they're nearly the same Rolling Radius as the original 15's. So gearing and top speed are only slightly affected. As for the weight of the wheel, Speedlines are an expensive wheel due largely to the fact they are lightweight whilst retaining the strength of wheels made from heavier alloy. They're standard equipment on Subarus and Ferraris IIRC. By comparison, the 16" BBS RDs I've just fitted to my VR6 cost £700 with Toyo Proxies. This was an extremely good price. The Speedlines were £700 new with cheapy tyres. I priced similar wheels for the VR with Toyo's last week and they came to £950! Think long and hard before changing the wheels and if you do, go for BBS or OZ wheels. Anything that doesn't cost around £700 or more isn't worth looking at. My 2p's worth  Mike -
Think they're around £30 from http://www.gpcvwaudi.com
