Sounds like busted oil control rings to me.... Whip the plugs out and see what state they are in?>
-
I had a go against one of these last week - to 70mph it was even after that I pulled away VERY quickly *:)
-
Ive been luckily enough to drive the 16V, G60 and VR6..... and simply the VR6 is the best package. End of.
-
Sounds like suspect head gasket or valve stem seals and guides..... Either way its off with your head!!! *;)
-
GTX Magnetec is pretty much the best for the VR6.... Quantum Silver is ok too.

128 deg C does sound very hot for a G60 would have thought..... Oil temps do increase when accelerating and when at constant speed and the water comes down to around 90degC.... then when you park up and idle the oil temp will fall to about 100degC and the water will go up to 100 - 105 degC... This is because the water system is acting as a heat exchange for the oil hence the oil cools... Another good reason why after a hot run its good to leave the car idling for 30-60 secs so cooled fresh oil gets around the engine before switching off.

Sounds spot on mate....

Well that was advice from a bodyshop :D

Would not use a polish on fresh paint............... Use a Wax instead with 'carnuba' in it.

Sounds pretty hot at 128deg C.... Im running at a constant 116degC at 80mph....

Looks like the VR6 head is coming off - Im still getting a little smoke now and again when weather is red hot and oil is hot.... so suspect valve guide wear although why it never smokes on cold start is a mystery!!! Anyway I need some advice on cylinder head removal on a VR6 - as going to do the job myself. Do I need to remove timing chains? Where can I get a gas flowed and ported re con head for sensible money ? - is it worth doing? Any advice appreciated! Cheers Scott

I'll second that - I had a full service history on my Corrado from VAG and the first time I use VW in the North West the service was terrible..... even now when I order parts from them they give me so much sh** its ridiculous - they dont shut up until I give them the reference numbers from ETKA!!! I now use a friendly specialist in the North West and they do everything I ask and more - been established for about 60yrs. Im off down there Sat to sort out a problem with the VR6 - they fitted me in at moments notice :D

Meguiars ................ nothing else comes close.

Optimax is 98.6 RON and with cars using adjustable timing these days via knock sensors some advantage can be had.... VR6 for instance : Not many people know that you will only get book figure of 190bhp if running 98 RON fuel (super plus at least) - substancially less if running normal unleaded as the timing is retarded slightly... Also with the Optimax it cleans and helps clean the valves, etc.... Cheers Scott.

They do make one themselves but have been advised to avoid synth as VR's like to burn it
-
Any recommend a good 15W oil then? - I hate skimping on oil - and from what I know 15W is non synth ?
-
Might be worth a go. What are you using now anyway? Should be 10W40 in winter and 15W40 in summer for a VR6. Using 10w 40 all year round - as friend of mine a VW freak as it happens also mentions I should use 15W 40 in summer....
-
What about using a different oil grade?
-
Yeah think you maybe right - sounds weird though as engine only done 100k miles!!!! and RR'd at 191bhp!!! How much for cylinder re con then?
-
Occasionally yes it does.... but only when pulling away then as soon as car is moving and revs start increasing it clears and its fine... Mine doesnt do it all the time either.... just now and again but have noticed its got worse recently.... Well Ive had the car looked at and no garage agrees with the fact I might have a fuel problem even though I suspect number one plug is still fouling (need to check it again but broke spark plug lead tool!!!!)..... will check that over tonight if I can get the lead out without breaking it!!!

Hiya People! Am a bit baffled at present with my VR6 and am looking for some ideas - the car is going to garage on Saturday but cant help wondering what to expect.... Basically - the car smokes.... blue/grey/black smoke.... but only happens if I hit the throttle from idle.... eg. I slow down for a car, roundabout, etc and come off throttle then apply throttle - it is then I get a 'puff/cloud' of smoke from exhaust - I keep throttle applied to accelerate and it clears straight away and no matter how many revs I use I wont see anymore smoke until I slow down and come off thottle then apply again - although this doesnt happen all the time... as you can imagine Im baffled. So first thing I did was plug my VAGCOM in - no fault codes present.... mmmmmmmm Can anyone help? Cheers Scott

Sorry mate that is definately wrong!!! VW state the VR6 engine should idle between 640rpm - 680rpm

Make sure you have decent tyres and geometry is right..... Also stick to factory tyre pressure figs cos it is a heavy front end.... As for tail out - this is caused by you going into the corner with the balance of the car wrong..... and prob too fast *:) Alot of people make the mistake of barrelling into the corner - hitting brakes then throwing it round (weight distrib over front) and then wondering why it slides!!! This is the right way.... Slow in - Fast out... That is go into corner with the chassis neutrally balance.... get your braking done in a straight line and before the corner, then accelerate when hit apex and widen the corner as you exit .... Get it right and you can go silly speeds *:) Takes practice....
