Been doing some thinking and had a long chat with the Toad-meister last night with regards to what blocks to use/build as a basis for a 16vT. Now, I have in the garage a 2E tall block stripped down ready to be built back up. I was going to adopt the same principle as the Americans do with the ABA block and 16v head. This combination gives you a compression ratio of ~8:1 straight out of the box, as the pistons have a dish and the 16v head has the combustion chamber set into the head. The only other thing you need to do is use the 16v crank pulley, intermediate shaft and pulley, as they differ between the 8 and 16vs. So, following on from that I started thinking about whether it would be possible to stroke the tall block and get some more capacity out of it but still maintain the low compression. The first thought was a TDI crank. The standard stroke on a tall block is 92.8mm and the TDI crank will up that to 95.5mm, then an over bore of 1mm on the block to take it out to 83.5mm. The two together will give you 2092cc. The only issue I can see is the length of the rods. short block ones are 144mm and tall block are 159mm, but as the crank now has an additional 2.7mm, the tall block rods will be too long. I suppose it could be possible to offset bush the pistons, but would it be possible to offset them that much? I'm not sure about this. The only other with would be to see if there are any other off the shelf rods, that are that little bit shorter? I think the short block rods would be too short. Another option i suppose would be to have the block machined so that it is slighly shorter, but again I think there must be a better option. What are the potential gains from going down the stroked turbo route? I would think that it would improve low down torque somewhat? But then would it hamper the engine's ability to rev? Finally I have one more question. Would such a stroked engine really need to have lightened crank/forged rods and pistons? For me it is more of an engineering exercise, so using OEM components is preferable :) Oh and one last thing, it appears from my coversation last night with the Toad-meister that although we both have engineering/sciencey type degrees, Tom couldn't work a calculator and I don't know how to calculate the area of a circle :camp:

Yeah its in mk2, defo a G60 block from what I can tell. That's what I thought ;)

Found this on a thread on Vortex and couldn't work out what was going on. Is that a crossflow head on an g60 turbo?? If so I reckon this might be of used to a certain junkie

See that is what I was thinking, but thought I was going a little mental! I suppose it's original applications are when the filter is outside of the vehicle i.e. open to the elements.

Matt black FTW

So, what exactly do you want/need this Drycharger thingy for? Just trying to work out what use they would be on a Corrado?
-
Coool! Doesn't it look tiny in comparison to that 306 though....looks like it's shrunk a little!
-
For now....... :norty:

Bellbrook are pretty bloody good. Had my 306 repaired there when I spin it in the snow! Seen a lot of other work from them too. My mate had his scirocco and old Merc done there, awesome work. -
Excellent work Karl! Loving the Gotti's too, saw a set like that for sale at ED38 and thought they look good on a Rado!
-
That's not good for a cast mani to fail like that. I hope that Jabba are sorting something out for you in replacement of that, Si?
-
Just thought I'd whore the rado in here.....:)

I thought that was blackberry to start with, but those more recent pics show it in a better light! Are we sure that isn't the 'special' purple we didn't get over here in the UK? Nice looking Rado all the same :) -
That is by far the best! My vote is 'Sticky'!!!

my 20vt corrado ... the saga continues

A head gasket aint gonna cost a lot mate. The fact it's running is a bonus, and if it's just a head gasket at fault then don't worry about it. Sounds like in true Corrado fashion, it's just testing your patience. Stick with it, it wont be too serious I'm sure :) -
Looks like a stretched (upward) Scirocco! And why only 208? Why don't they just do a 250?

Any news? ;)

Have I missed some New Rules on Motorway Driving?
mrbeige replied to Jay2's topic in General Car Chat
Exactly! It's an 'overtaking lane'! Why is it that these people think it's a 'fast lane'?? As far as the indicating thing, was talking to a mate the other day and he had been following a Merc SL AMG through Leeds, and the guy driving hadn't indicated at any roundabouts or junctions for a few miles. He ended up next to this guy at some traffic lights, and gestured him to wind down his window; "Alright mate, nice car! Expensive?" To which the guy replied "Yeah about £000's!" My mates response was "Well, for that much you'd think they'd fit f*cking indicators!" -
Warmage required as the glue at the bottom edge of it is very very sticky! not too much warmage though, otherwise it will distort like fook. I broke the Badcrumble's getting it off :(

164k....no chocolate for me :(

Awesome work, but that would have been so much better if it was in a fairly standard Corrado

New amp & components - loads of interference - SORTED
mrbeige replied to Mark_Storm's topic in ICE 'n' Secure
Mine was a V12 so wasn't a cheap one, though it was pretty old... Although compared to some I suppose it's the 'low' end of the market... I've seen the ground plane go down on a V12 before, but it was really really old. -

I've seen this many many times before with 'dodgy' amplifiers, and more commonly with cheap halfords style amplifiers. What is the make and model? -
Yeah until you come off round a bend and crash it! It would be a pretty expensive rebuild! Mk2 Golf all the way! Cheap as chips, loads of parts available and cheap replacement bits. Keep it simple, stick with the standard engine with a little fettling and a proper weld in cage, and jobs a good-un :salute:

Liking the new green motor, Mr Green 8) ;) So when do the modifications start?
