  1. I was going to get the Neuspeeds - but the price put me off. H&Rs seemed good and were about £100 less. I did want the adjustable rear too - but since I wasn't 100% sure of what to expect from the ARBS chickened out on the fatter ones ;) I've the competition insert up front and fast road rears - really can't complain about them. I was getting a lot of exhaust movement - so changed the bungees to Powerflex ones - people on here seemingly don't rate them. But my car sees plenty hard driving and I've not had a problem with them in the year I've used them. My plan was changing constantly - to the point I didn't know what I want from the car. But it seems to have found some ground now and as soon as I'm Edinburgh and have a garage the cars being taken apart - when it goes back together again it should satisfy what I've been wanting from it. Going to keep the leather interior, but get a second set of seats for track days - need to consider harnesses but I'll leave that till later. Same with wheels - will get some nice ones for day use, 15" mo's for track use with sticky semi slicks on. Just too hard to find compromises for everything. But the Corrado is every bit as usable as other shopping trolley cars I've had - so don't really want to lose the boot for a flat floor. Getting the paint sorted - colour change too with some nice details planned. In love with the Graphite colour used on the mk5 gti's. Red rear lights, carbon fibre spoiler, silver multispokes - awesome. Black mo's of course. :) Hope I don't read this in 6 months and say wtf was I thinking! LOL!!
  2. The picture is clear now... :) took bloody long enough! Got a pretty solid plan now. Next thing to do is get a garage space to get started. I changed all the bushes (front and rear) with OEM items - but still find it too soft - when changing steering direction (think S bends) theres too much movement in my opinion. So I'd like to try the Vibratechnics bushes not poly. The Vibratechnics mounts I fitted are bloody excellent. Rear ARB is 25mm, front 22mm. I could have gone 28R/25F but thought that might have been a little OTT for normal driving now. Hope I don't regret it and want more later. Have you them fitted too? If so, what size?
  3. havent updated in a while. But the cars not going on sale at all :) Just fitted a 25mm H&R rear ARB - front being fitted Tuesday - went out for an hour doing b-roads and the difference is fantastic. Haven't played around with damper settings yet. The front doesn't actually feel too light - the rear however just follows, has less jittery behavior and helps keep things slightly more level on cornering. Can't wait to get the front on and have a play with settings. Well recommended. Slimline fan being fitted just now. As are red rears, mods to the gear linkages, alarm and new stereo (thanks double-6s). Long term plans are being made up. Have a picture in my head for colour, wheels and a few details. Also will be 1.8T'ing the car over the winter ready for next spring/summer - thats going to be lots of work as have quite a few things happening there. Ah.. got to love Corrados.
  4. I'll be doing that :) The knock sensor would be removed due to the addition of the DTA ECU? Not really sure what the MAF is and its role. About the VVC - I'm sure I've read its only on some later engines - not sure if its in the BAM. Someone will probably correct me soon. And you're right - I can live without the MPG reading. Its all wrong in my G60 now anyway due to the work done. Major draw to the S80 is the ability of storing (and switching between) two maps. We're not all on track every day of the week ;) Thanks again Kev :)
  5. Kev - thanks - thats a good explanation :) I take it when you say make up a whole new loom - you mean get one from the likes of QED? (I tried searching for them - can't find them - any urls handy?) I read that the stock management requires modifying due to the immobilser, and i don't want to have to change the clocks and barrel etc. Revo do it - but its expensive at around £500 and doesn't offer what DTA/Emerald etc can. With the option of doing more work to the engine at a later date - isn't standalone simpler? Like you say, omitting the likes of secondary controls that don't exist can only be a good thing - keeps things clean and simple. You're not likely in that situation since you've kept the original engine. It might be worth finding out prices from different places for a new loom then deciding whether to get the loom when sourcing an engine or not. Any help with QED? Cheers :)
  6. can't go after all. I forgot about an invite i got for that weekend. being forgetful i invited one of my mates and a mutual friend to go to ed38. i got a reply saying 'sorry, I can't go that weekend as thats my birthday, the one i invited both you and dan to' - ed38 was out lol if i head to nottingham to visit any time soon i could always have a break on the way up for a pint and be shown as example of an IHI'ed corrado :)
  7. that looks fantastic. i never was fond of white corrados - but this has totally changed my mind. good job
  8. It won't cost 2k for a BAM setup. You don't need the gearbox and all the engine parts. Plus changing to a cable throttle body makes life easier. So does using standalone management - easier for upgrading later aswell. But horses for courses.
  9. while we're talking about hot babes - hope your brazilian pistons come with...ahem ;)
  10. TT, S3, maybe Cupra R But I'll look for an S3 or TT version - should find a low mileage one
  11. Thats plenty i think. Cheaper to look after aswell. Kev - I've wondered about the loom and DTA - when buying such as engine - do you need the original loom (to get modified?) or do you get a modified one with the DTA package? Been told you get a base map for the engine which could be tweaked to marry up to the setup - but on a fairly std engine, shouldn't be far out. Nope as the G60 engine is 8v - so reflecting on that age chart - its been used for years and years
  12. just decide whether you want it for track use or drives out on the roads. you should find the answer there... although do you not fancy a stripped out interior, nice front seats, carpet laid down to the rear seats, cage, carbon door cards... ok full interior it is then - with semi useful rear seats that weigh loads. sorry lol
  13. 'packet' - thats very clever. but obvious when you think of it! The 1.8T has been adopted by all sorts of enthusiasts owning different cars. Even various kit car owners are using them. Its an option for Elise owners too. I've a friend who's owned an s3 for sometime and he's not had any such problems with it. Of course he could run into problems - but fine so far. Like any motor - once you start to push it, things can give up early. However, for a lot of people I'm sure - transplanting an engine in thats std in form, putting out 280bhp and similar torque with a bit of mapping - is more than enough (better to spend money on handling after that and petrol to enjoy driving the car imo). lots of benefits of doing that over keeping the old engine (been discussed time and time over). I think its important not to get hung up on whats the best engine - otherwise there'll always be the assessment - did i fit the best engine to my car. Its unnecessary - if it fits the criteria you have for the car then great. If we wanted to talk about the 'best engine to fit' then who would say it'd be a VAG unit?
  14. dude where do you get a gf that cleans your engine bay? looks good monkey
  15. Using a VR6 radiator with 2 slimline fans would probably do it. But not sure whats needed to fit it.
  16. i've not ported the charger or gone down as far as a 65mm pulley, std intercooler, std bottom end, sns5.5 and a map - but a hand ported big valve head with 35mm exh valves - and i'm seeing 203bhp with 197lbs/ft. the head work accounts for a lot. If i added a fmic, 65mm pulley, race spec ported charger and water injection i'd be seeing very good figures. and i put this down to the head giving a good foundation for the other mods to work with.
  17. i think it has to be done. it'd be wrong not to. am seeing whether i can be down on the friday night - leave on saturday night or sunday AM. where you staying mate? tempted over winter to do mine dark pearlescent grey (like the new beemers) with black comp mo's, red rear lights... ready for the engine work. balls i should just buy a lotus exige. ;) kidding
  18. [strike:51b3a]sam - how did you remove it - is it not necessary?[/strike:51b3a] ^^ think i posted in the wrong thread lol
  19. only been to bangor once - but used to live near magherafelt - bit far from you mind... where were you lucky enough to get that carbon spoiler from?
  20. Thought about a colour change myself. I love the dark greys as on BMWs now: http://www.autoblog.nl/archive/2006/11/ ... 3-spyshots
  21. Someone buy that man a pint. :)
  22. cool - did you do all the work yourself? bar the painting
  23. i know you can attach two either side of the radiator - effectively sandwiching the radiator - so i'm sure you must be able to do similiar - just with one. i'm itching to take the front of the car off and have a nosy at the front cross member - so i'll fit it tomorrow. doing a lot of reading and figuring things out. it'd be nice to keep the g60 engine, but not sure i want to go the hassle of a complete rebuild. 1.8T is looking most likely. but theres enough i can get on with before actually swapping over yet. still trying to get down to ed38 - seeing what yours is like is high on the agenda ;)
  24. looks good. did you paint the bay too?
  25. not been so someone else can reassure you - but not everyone can say they have a show car. don't worry about it. it takes most mortals years and years to sort the car to the state they wished it was in from day one. besides corrados are for driving not for poncing around in ;) so who cares about some tatty areas if it handles well and has the power for the road
